Finding Myself and…Him

I stare out my window watching the clouds go by pondering on just how much my life is about to change. Hi, I’m Nova, I’m from the Black Diamond pack, I’m 17 and the youngest person to be accepted into Winter Gardens Academy. Usually it would only ever be a dream to be accepted into this college, it’s reserved for the elites in our world. Yet all because of one meeting to help our Alpha negotiate with neighbouring packs again I was noticed. Yes, I slipped up and I didn’t mean to say out loud what the other Alpha was thinking I am only ever meant to mind link our Alpha, Alpha Mark, what the others in the room are thinking. I caught the eye of the Sapphire Pack’s elder, he noticed it the most and asked me about my ability after the meeting, and well before I know it I got a scholarship to the college. Alpha Mark was obviously furious he was losing someone from the pack with my ability, but he also couldn’t go against the elders proposal especially when he is the right hand man of our current king.

“Oh honey, staring at the clouds again? Are you all packed you’re due to leave soon” I turn around to see my mother, Sabina warmly smiling at me. Although I see her eyes slowly welling up with tears, she didn’t want me to go, all she had was me after my father went missing shortly after I was born. My mother was the head all of the omega’s in our pack, she was loved by all and took everyone in and honestly she was a born Luna.

“Yes mum, I don’t know if I’m ready for this next part of my life and what it will bring” I reply with the smile on my face slowly disappearing as I’m filled with feelings of self doubt and dread. I could have refused the offer from Elder Michael but I also couldn’t resist I want to see what is out there, what is beyond these lands that we own. I want to see the city and the fast pace life that it offers, I just want to live, and unfortunately that means leaving the pack grounds and more importantly my mother.

“You will be fine honey you’re a powerful individual and people in high places have now seen the potential you hold”

“Thanks mum, but I’ll miss you so much” I walk towards her and into her embrace, I’ll miss this. Miss our movie days, our nature walks, waking up to her making coffee and breakfast. But I’m about to turn 18 and go to college I need to become more independent if not for myself then my future mate, if I have one that is.

“Let’s have our last dinner together for a while, you’re all packed up and ready to leave early tomorrow morning, I made your favourite the steaks are downstairs”. With that I happily walked downstairs with mum, ate the delicious meal she had prepared for us. We sat and watched a few movies for the rest of the evening, sitting in silence but the air around us feeling thick and heavy with the emotions we were both feeling about me leaving. I hugged my mum goodnight for the last time in a long while and headed to bed.

I was restless the whole night, vividly dreaming about being in a forest, the forest was in full bloom and looked amazing. I was awestruck by the nature I was surrounded by, however, in the distance stood a shadowy figure of a man. I tried to call out to him for him to walk further and further away from me. I woke up to be dripping in sweat confused and flustered. The dream felt so realistic for some reason, but reality had hit me as today was D-Day. I got up, showered, braided my hair and put on the clothes that I had laid out the previous evening for my first day. Here goes nothing..
