Remorse

He waited anxiously for his best friend to make an appearance. He didn't want to believe the evidence before his eyes. How could have made the same mistake he promised himself to avoid?

A knock came from the door bringing him back to the present. Alvin walked inside in a casual white shirt and black jeans. He looked relaxed. Alex took one more look at his friend. That was when he noticed the smugness.

His heart sunk in his chest. He didn't need words to confirm his doubts. It was written on his best friend's face. He swallowed hard and braced himself for what was to come. Not wanting to beat around the bush, he asked the dreadful question that was burning him inside.

"Is it true? Was it all a well-planned scheme? Did I hurt her for a fake?" He mentally applauded himself for getting the words out without a stutter. Alvin said nothing from the moment he walked in. He was still bitter after everything Alex did.
