Chapter 2

Penulis: Crispy Coco
Claire burst into an exaggerated laugh. "You're pregnant? Oh, gods. But you don't have a mating mark… Don't tell me…"

She and the others exchanged vile, knowing smirks.

I knew what they were thinking—that I’d been used and abandoned by some rogue wolf.

The truth was, I’d deliberately used a special spray to hide David’s scent. That man's possessiveness was off the charts; anyone could smell his claim on me from a hundred feet away. It was mortifying.

I had no desire to waste another second listening to their garbage, and I ignored the dark look on Mattew’s face.

"Aren't you here to pick me up? Let's go."

Mattew stared at me for a beat.

Then Marcus, standing behind him, exploded into laughter as if he’d just heard the funniest joke of his life.

"Hahahaha—what did she say?" Marcus laughed so hard tears streamed down his face. "She said we're here to pick her up?"

"Gods, Georgia, are you out of your mind?" another she-wolf wheezed, clutching her stomach. "Who do you think you are? The Queen?"

Claire stalked toward me in her high heels, looking down her nose at me. "Georgia, you must have gone crazy after getting knocked up by some mutt."

"Read the sign, Georgia," she said, pointing a manicured finger at the "Luna of Blackwood Pack" sign in Marcus’s hands. "We are waiting for the Luna of the Blackwood Pack—Alpha King David’s cherished mate!"

She deliberately stressed the words "cherished mate."

"Of course, a rogue like you wouldn't know. The Blackwood Pack is the most powerful pack in all of North America. They rule every territory from the Great Lakes to the Rocky Mountains."

Mattew’s pack members eagerly chimed in.

"I heard he worships his Luna."

Claire's voice was a mix of excitement and envy. "And just last month, King David himself went to Europe and took the priceless 'Moon's Tear' necklace back from the Dracula Coven! All as a gift for his Luna."

"They say that necklace is carved from the purest moonstone and set with one hundred and eight starlight diamonds. The wolf who wears it is blessed by the Moon Goddess herself."

"That Luna must be the happiest woman alive…"

As their envious chatter filled the air, I couldn't help but touch the necklace at my throat.

This was the "Moon's Tear."

The night before last, when David had fastened it around my neck, he’d just said casually, "Wear this while you're away. It'll keep the vultures at bay."

At the time, I was too busy fussing over the silver burns on his hands—injuries he’d gotten fighting the vampires for it.

I had no idea the necklace was this legendary.

"So you see, Georgia," Claire said, turning back to me with pure malice in her eyes. "We are waiting for a true Luna. A woman showered with love and devotion. And you…"

She gave me another dramatic, head-to-toe scan. "You're a rejected omega, a slut who sleeps with stray wolves and carries their bastard pup. What on earth makes you think we are here for you?"

"Yeah, take a look in the mirror!"

"This is hilarious."

I said nothing, just let them have their little show.

My silence, to them, was an admission of guilt and shame.

"But speaking of which…" Claire's eyes suddenly locked onto my neck, her voice growing shrill. "Why does that thing you're wearing look so much like the 'Moon's Tear'?"

Before I could answer, she gasped as if hit by a brilliant realization. "You're wearing a fake!"

Mattew’s brow furrowed as he stared at me.

"It's a good knock-off," he said, reaching out and grabbing the necklace. He looked at me with an all-knowing glare. "Which rogue gave this to you?"

The chain snapped as he ripped it from my neck.

A sting of pain shot through my skin as the clasp scraped me, drawing a thin line of blood.

"Mattew!" I lunged for it, but Claire had already snatched it from his hand.

She dangled it in front of her face, tapping a fingernail against the moonstone. "Tsk, tsk. Someone really spent some money on this. It's the best fake I've ever seen."

She swung the necklace in front of my face, taunting me. "Did you have to trade your body for it? I guess that's all you're worth now."

"Did you really think wearing this would make you the Luna?"

Snickers erupted around me.

I stared at the gift David had risked his life for, now in her filthy hands. I couldn't stop myself. I lunged. "Give it back! David gave that to me—"

SLAP!

A sharp, ringing slap sent me stumbling backward. Blood trickled from the corner of my mouth.

"Shut up!"

The hospital room door was thrown open.David burst in, with Leo right behind him. Both of their eyes were bloodshot, their faces a frantic mix of panic and overwhelming joy, as if I'd been gone for an eternity."Georgia!"David rushed to my bedside, his trembling hands cupping my face as he stared at me without blinking."Mommy..."Leo stood at the foot of the bed, his small body rigid, his lip caught between his teeth. His eyes were red, and I could see tear tracks on his cheeks.A pang of guilt hit me. I knew David must have taken his anger out on him."Leo, sweetheart, come here." I held out my hand to him.He didn't move. He just lowered his head."I didn't protect Mommy. It's my fault...""Leo," I looked at my son, my heart aching. "Baby, it's not your fault. Mommy chose to protect you, okay?"I shot a glare at David. He looked guilty for a second before burying his face in the crook of my neck. "I'm sorry... I lost my mind. When I saw you lying in a pool of blood, I..." His voic

Before Mattew could say another word, Leo spoke. His green eyes were full of contempt, and the sheer force of his presence was enough to overpower most of the adult wolves in the room."Shut up.""You are not worthy to speak in my father's presence." Leo tilted his head, his tone both innocent and cruel. "A weakling who relies on a woman to secure his position. A failure who can't even protect his own mate. A..." He paused, thinking, then smiled brightly. "A loser who sired a defective pup, unrecognized by the Moon Goddess."Someone in the crowd couldn't help but chuckle. No one had expected Leo to be so vicious with his words.Mattew's face turned a shade of sickly green. "You—""Was I wrong?" Leo blinked. "Has your son had his first shift? Or does he not have a wolf at all?"Shaking with shame and fury, Mattew trembled."Enough!" Claire suddenly shrieked. Hearing her son insulted like that, especially after Mattew had just tried to replace her with me, made her snap."You little bast

Under the threatening glares of the father and son, the doctor nervously treated my wounds, then scanned my abdomen with a portable scanner."Alpha King," the doctor began cautiously, "the Luna and the baby are both fine. It's just... the hand is rather badly injured. It will need time to heal properly."Leo hugged my neck, burying his small face in my shoulder. But his green eyes swept coldly over every single person in the hall.David said nothing, just stood there silently. But the oppressive weight of his presence was suffocating.Father and son looked identical when they were angry."You'd all better start talking and explain exactly what happened," David's voice was low and dangerous. In the crowd, no one was suffering more than Mattew. He never imagined that the woman he'd thrown away would become the most revered Luna in the land. Not only was she thriving without him, but she had found a mate a thousand times better than him.And yet... they were supposed to be Fated Mates. Hi

David’s presence was a calming balm, and my frantic breathing finally evened out.I raised my hand and pointed to the culprits: Mattew, Claire, and the handful of wolves who had fanned the flames at the airport yesterday.Mattew and Claire's faces went white. The other wolves nearly collapsed to the floor."We didn't...""Alpha King, we truly didn't know she was..."Their only regret was not believing me when I'd said I was the Luna. They knew they were dead men once David found out what they had said.A beautifully dressed she-wolf gritted her teeth and stepped forward. She thrust her chest out, a seductive, fawning look on her face. "Alpha King, there may have been a misunderstanding... I don't suppose you'd be willing to discuss it with me? I mean, just the two of us. In private."Her invitation was obvious. She was gambling on a long shot: it wasn't unheard of for Alphas to be unfaithful, and few could resist a lover as beautiful and sexy as she was. What if the rumors about the Al

David commanded the room in a hand-tailored black suit. The sheer force of his presence had every wolf in the hall instinctively bowing their heads. In his arms, he held a little boy with a solemn face. The boy looked to be only two or three, yet a powerful Alpha aura radiated from him—a clear sign he was destined to be a top-tier Alpha. Right now, though, he was just looking around nervously.Mattew was still in front of me, rambling, "I can take you back... just as long as you promise to take good care of my son..."I had to fight the urge to roll my eyes.Who wanted to take care of his son?Claire scurried forward a few steps, flashing a fawning smile at David. "Alpha King, we've just caught a thief! She stole your Luna's necklace! I've already taught her a lesson—""Mommy!"A joyful cry from the boy cut her off.In front of everyone, the little boy in David's arms wriggled free and ran straight to me, crumpled on the floor.Everyone froze."Mommy..." Leo stopped in front of me. Whe

I arrived at the banquet three days later, once again dressed in simple, comfortable clothes.I couldn't help it. Since learning I was pregnant, David had forbidden me from wearing anything that might be even slightly uncomfortable."Georgia?"Mattew saw me, a smug smile spreading across his face. "I knew it. You were just pretending. You still wanted to see me."I didn't waste a single glance on him. "You're overthinking it," I said flatly.I turned and headed for the center of the dais—the heart of the ceremony, a place reserved only for the highest-ranking members of the pack."Stop!"Mattew grabbed my wrist, his grip so tight I winced in pain."Georgia, are you insane?" Mattew hissed, his eyes filled with warning. "That's the Alpha King and Luna's spot! Get a grip! You don't belong there!"Claire's shrill, nauseating voice cut through the air. "Georgia, you still have the nerve to flaunt that fake necklace? Do you have any idea what kind of event this is?"Her shout drew dozens of
