The Marriage day

Today was the marriage day. Every women desperately wait for this day but Anastasia was an exception. She had never thought that she would marry someone whose face she did not even see. Ridiculous! Wasn’t it?

In this modern world, when things have changed drastically but one thing that has not changed was the rules of Spanos family. The words of the Head of Spanos family are set in stones. But what she could do except accepting this fate of hers. Her father always faced the taunts from his entire family which made her agree on her grandpa’s order.

She was sitting on a vanity chair. The makeup artist was applying makeup on her face when she told her to apply light makeup. She was gazing into the mirror, watching her own reflection when a chuckle escaped her mouth. The makeup artist out of curiosity asked her, “What happened, miss?”

“I am just going to marry and it nothing feels like marrying,” Anastasia pronounced. The makeup artist was confused upon hearing those words of Anastasia but she did not ask further. She applied a red lipstick on Anastasia’s lips and then gave the final touch to her face. The makeup was light. Her natural beauty was enough to mesmerise any person around her.

After that a hair dresser stepped forward and made a beautiful bun on her head. Tiny white flowers were also placed around the bun. The veil was pinned on her hair and she was ready. She stood up and looked at her reflection in the mirror.

The white A-line wedding gown had fitted bodies and was flowy from the waist. The tulle style was used to create gorgeous layers in the full skirt. The gown was backless with a pearl encrusted bodice which was giving a sense of vintage detailing. Christopher came forward to adjust the veil. “Miss, you are looking gorgeous. This wedding dress is made for you only,” Christopher pronounced.

He then forwarded his hand to her. Anastasia grabbed it and walked along him. Making her sit on the white colored wingback chair, he looked at her assistant and told her to bring the white heels for Anastasia. Another assistant helped Anastasia wearing the white gloves which were of satin from the wrist till arm and lacey towards the hand. She was ready and when Katherine came there along with Lucas.

Christopher and others left the room, leaving them alone. “Why are you here?” Anastasia asked Katherine.

“It’s your wedding so, I had to come,” Katherine replied. “Do you really want to go with this marriage? Lucas told me that you did not even see the face of the man whom you are getting married to. How come a brainy girl like you agreeing with that oldie?” Katherine questioned Anastasia’s decision on the marriage.

“Mom, please. I am going to marry in a few minutes and you have to say this to me. Dad take her away from here,” Anastasia demanded, averting her gaze from Katherine.

Katherine snickered and walked out from there. “Your mother is just concerned about you. Do you really want to go with this marriage?” Lucas asked her again.

“Yes, dad. I wanted to go with this decision,” Anastasia proclaimed. Lucas nodded and then grabbed her hand. “It’s time to leave for the Church,” asserted Lucas. Anastasia stood up and put her hand around her father’s arm. The attendants came in to help her with the long veil. She stepped out of the room and at the front of her house, long white car was standing. Getting into it, she looked at her father who was smiling at her.

The other family members were also there and got into the cars ahead of the car in which Anastasia was sitting. After five minutes, the car left for the church. Thirty minutes later, the car halted in front of the church. There were a few stairs to reach the church house. The car door was opened and she stepped down of it. Lucas grabbed his daughter’s hand and helped her in standing up. The helpers put down her long veil down when Lucas stepped forward, so did Anastasia.

Her heart was thumping loudly as she stepped up the stairs along with her father. Red carpet was placed over those marble stairs. Soon they were at the front of the church. She saw that entire church was filled with the wedding guests when her eyes fell on the aisle but could not define the man standing there because of the veil and instance from the aisle.

Lucas stepped in when the people there started clapping for him. The person with whom she was going to marry turned to look at them. He was quite tall almost 6’1” and had blue eyes. Anastasia blinked her eyes seeing him because she did not imagine that Alexander would turn out to be handsome as a geek god. His well chiseled face with a strong muscular figure surprised her. She did not realize when she reached closer to him and her father handed her hand to the man she was going to marry in a few minutes.

Alexander grabbed her hand gently and turned to the priest. The priest picked the two Stefanas up from the table there which were joined by a white ribbon for the Stefana ceremony. According to a Greek saying, the stefanas joined by white ribbon symbolize that both husband and wife are joined in a holy relationship of marriage and the two must respect each other from now on.

The priest was chanting the vows for them. The two repeat after them. The wedding rings were also exchanged. The wine glass was handed to Alexander by the priest who took three sips from it followed by Anastasia. The priest then took the wine glass from them and put it on the table.

The priest than joined their hands and told them to follow him holding as their first walk after marriage as a couple. Removing the Stefana from their heads, he said, “what therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder (separate)” – means no one should try splitting the couple.

After the marriage ceremony ended, the priest told groom to kiss the bride. The people there were clapping for them. Alexander turned to Anastasia and pulled up her veil. Their eyes met each other. Alexander stared into Hazel eyes of Anastasia for a few seconds and then leaned closer to her lips. Anastasia clutched her dress tightly and shut her eyes when she felt the Alexander’s lips onto hers. It was just for a second as he quickly leaned back. Everyone there again clapped for them thus ending the marriage ceremony.

Alexander’s parents came ahead along with Anastasia’s. They both took the blessings of their elders. They all came out of the church when Anastasia was told to toss the bouquet. The girls were gathered beneath the stairs. Anastasia threw the bouquet and saw her mother had that bouquet in her hand. This turned off her mood as she never thought she would be taking part in that ceremony.

She averted her gaze from her when her aunts Sofia and Zoey came there. They took her away from there. The guests were taken for the dinner to the seaside venue. Anastasia and Alexander were sitting around the table. The people were coming to them to congratulate the two. Anastasia had worn a fake smile on her lips while Alexander was noticing her changing facial expressions.

“Ana, I cannot believe that you marry this early. Have a great wedding life,” stated her friend, Rose Russo. Anastasia thanked her for the wishes. She told the wedding photographer to take her photo with Anastasia. Anastasia got up from the chair and clicked a few photos with her. She then returned to her seat and got seated on it.

Alexander forwarded a cup of water towards Anastasia which refused from taking. Alexander pulled back his hand and put the cup on the table. After the dinner was done, all the guests left for their respective houses.

A black car was standing outside the huge gate of the venue. Anastasia hugged her father tightly. She was going to burst into tears, but for her father she wanted to be strong. Pulling away from her father, she went to her grandparents. Lucas told Alexander to take care of his daughter. After meeting with everyone, she almost got into the car when Katherine asked her if she wouldn’t give her a hug.

Anastasia turned to her and gave a hug to her. Katherine caressed her head lovingly and told her to take care of herself. Anastasia pulled away from her and then looked at her father whose eyes were teary. She then got inside the car. Alexander also took his leave from all of them and got into the car. The driver closed the door and then went back to his seat. He started the engine and drove away from there.

Anastasia turned her head to look at her father. “Dad,” she murmured as his sight got invisible after a few seconds. She turned her head to the front and then turned it to her left, looking outside the window.
