It had been a week since my shooting and I hadn't been strong the whole time. I knew they weren't exactly allowing families to connect with each other but I had yet to recover from the shock of it so I spent most of my time not knowing of my family meeting but today I was fully back to my senses.

My sister and parents were by my side. My mom was stroking my hair, sitting at the foot of my bed with all this hospital equipment still connected to me.

"How do you feel now?" She asked me for the umpteenth time. She probably expected me to stumble and pass out. I heard I'd undergone surgery to have the bullet taken out and I had zero memories of it. it had to be the seamless surgery ever.

"Mom, I'm fine, relax." I rolled my eyes at her, my dad still wasn't talking to me but it didn't matter. I winced at the slight pain I felt on my shoulder where the bullet had hit me. The pain relief medications were helpful, but the image of me being fired created a weird phantom pain.
