This world is not for a simple and innocent beings. People can eat you alive, without thinking twice. Same happened with a small town farmer's boy. He just wanted to study and learn more, was it really wrong? To wish for a better life? To be eligible for someone? You know Human can be ruthless, they hit you where it hurts the most. They said, until the end is not happy it's not the end. That's not how it works in reality. They say everyone get better, everything gets better, but what if destiny decided not to give you the chance to be better? What would you do?Think before you do anything. It all started with an absurd mistake and that made an innocent boy's life a living hell. When death was only safe escape for him.The other was guilty, ashamed and wanted to apologize but to whom? When the one whom he wanted to apologize was already gone.
Lihat lebih banyakMiles Theo, 20 year old cute innocent boy who came to Brooklyn to study. Only knows Christopher who is his best friend.
Christopher Corbin, Miles's friend who love him more than anyone.
Lucas Volkov, Christopher's friend who lives in the same building and had been Christopher's school fellow. Soon to be Miles's nightmare.
"Yeah Chris, I just arrived." The petite blonde boy struggled to hold his phone, the purse and the suitcase all at once.
"Give me the money so I can leave." The driver said annoyed and he gestured him to wait for a minute.
"Chris call me again after 5 minutes, I need to pay for the ride and to take my luggage inside. I can't do that all at once." Miles said frustrated.
"Bear, be very careful okay. Just give him 10 dollars not more than that. And keep me on the call. They can fool you..." Christopher wasn't able to come out of the phone or else he would have.
"Chris I'm not a baby. I know how to handle the situations." Miles can't handle stress very well and right now it is a very stressful situation for him.
"Sir, how much is the fare?" Miles asked without letting Christopher talk again or maybe he is talking but he has cut the call.
"30 Dollars." The driver said. Miles thought for a second and spoke.
"But isn't it too much? I mean you just took me from the train station and it's not that far." He thought he said a very logical thing. His luggage was still in the cab.
"Sir, I hardly make money by driving the taxi, you can at least pay me the right amount." The driver said with the saddest face. Miles felt so horrible for cutting the money of someone who is already struggling with his life.
"I'm so sorry sir. Here keep the change." Miles handed him 50 won. Being a kind-hearted person, he can't seem to let the other suffer. What if his son or daughter is waiting for their father to come back with some extra money and they will be happy, because now he will.
The driver smirked at boy's innocence and thanked him slightly. "Let me help you take out the luggage." He said and helped Miles to take out his suitcase.
"Thank you so much for being kind to me." Miles said and bowed in return. The driver didn't even reply and drove away. Miles didn't make it a big deal and picked his luggage walking up to the building's entrance.
Miles is staying with his friend, Christopher. They went to same school but then Christopher shifted to Brooklyn and Miles left in Dering Harbor. Miles always had a wish to study more and to learn new thing.
After taking the gap for almost four years he finally decided to continue his study. He wasn't from very big family; he was a farmer's son and studying in a school of Brooklyn asks a lot of money. It took Miles four years to save enough money to come here.
Christopher offered him his place to stay as he misses his best friend and also, he knows Miles can't afford a separate apartment.
Miles was thankful to him when Christopher told him. And right now, he is standing outside the elevator to come down so that he can go to floor 85, where Christopher lives.
His phone ringed again when the elevator open and Miles huffed again knowing it was Christopher because no one else has the number. But the annoying thing was Christopher always had a bad timing, first taking the luggage out of the cab, and now pushing it inside the elevator. The suitcase was very heavy for Miles to handle along with the phone and his blazer which was sticking here and there.
"Chris, you got very bad timing." Miles attend the call as soon as he was inside the elevator.
"What happened?"
"I was coming inside the elevator when you called. It took me good 5 minutes to understand it how to call it down and then it was not going up and the luggage..... huff in short I’m tired." The poor boy released a breath, sitting on the elevator floor legs open and stretched.
"Aww my baby bear, I'm so sorry. I was stuck here or else I would've been there for you." Christopher said knowing this technology can be tiresome for someone like Miles who was from a remote area. He was more of a nature guy than that of the technology one.
"It's okay. I just hope I reach there quickly." Miles said with a smile. Christopher can imagine how Miles would be sitting on the ground with legs wide open and shoulders slump down. He always does that when he is tired or stressed and right now he is kind of both.
"You'll be okay. Don't worry. Tell me how much you gave to the cab driver?" Christopher asked.
"Same as you said." Miles lied. He knows Christopher would start fighting with him if he told him, he never sees things emotionally, Miles know he did the right thing.
"Thank God. Thank God you didn't do anything stupid. The station is just two blocks away from my apartment and he could've asked you for 25 or more as a fair." Christopher said casually breathing in relief that Miles didn't lose his money. But little did know.
"What?!!" Miles's voice raised unconsciously.
"Yeah. I live just two blocks away from the train station. I just didn't want you to get lost somewhere. But don't worry from now on I'll tell you all the routes." Christopher didn't know what Miles just realized.
He realized how easily he is being fooled on his first day.
"I'll meet you at home. I’ve reached the floor." Miles said ready to end the call. He still feels bad for himself. He has saved this money working hard day and night and just in a second someone mugged him.
"Alright, remember third room by the right of the elevator. I'll call after 5 minutes. Go inside and close the door." Christopher said cutting the call. Miles stood up when the door of the elevator open and he took his bag walking out of it. This time more easily.
"He said third by the right." Miles muttered looking around and then at the key card he was holding in his hand. "Room 8593"
"Okay there." Miles said holding his luggage. He wasn't wearing his glasses that means he can't see to a long distance. He has a sight problem.
"8589....8590.....8591.....8592......and here 8593" he said looking at the door next to the one he was standing. But he halted when he saw a man lying limp in front of the apartment door.
Miles got scared. Back in Dering Harbor, whenever someone was doing such thing it only ended up with a murder or a robbery and what if this man is here to rob Christopher's apartment.
His phone ringed again. This time he picked it up on first ring.
"Have you gotten in?" Christopher asked.
"C-Ch-Chris." Miles finds it hard to speak even breathe. There was no one in the hallway and what if this man has a gun or anything? How will he protect himself?
"Bear? Everything alright?" Christopher asked worried.
"There is a man...... passed out right in front of your apartment door." Miles said in a whisper not wanting the man to wake up. He can't defend himself and definitely not in his current situation.
"What?" Christopher asked confused.
"There is a man..... passed out on the ground."
"Bear, listen, just jump past him and go inside. Close the door and do not open until I say so. Okay. I'll call Lucas and ask him to come over. Alright? Stay relax and just get in. I'll call you in a minute." Christopher said calmly and cut the call.
Miles took a breath and took a step forward to jump over the man. He successfully did it and opened the door. To his luck the door opened easily.
He took a step forward, but dread filled his body when he felt someone holding his leg. He looked back with a lot more difficulty watching the same man holding his leg.
"L-Let go." Miles said jerking his leg to free it.
"I want to go inside." The man mummers, completely drunk.
"Please let go." Miles holds back the cry. The fear filled his body. The first day and how much is it more going to happen.
"Let me go inside. I want to go inside!!" The man said pulling his leg again.
"W-Why? This is my friend's apartment, why do you want to go inside. Let g-go of me." Miles said giving his leg a strong jerk that ended as a kick on the man's face who groaned in annoyance and let go of Miles's leg.
Miles didn't think for a second and went inside closing the door right on man's face. He can hear him yell annoyed.
His phone ringed again and he picked the call, breathing fast and heavy.
"What happened?" Christopher asked worried.
"I just got inside. He held my leg and was asking to let him inside." Miles whispered scared of any small sound.
"I'm so sorry Bear. I shouldn't have asked you to come here alone."
"It's okay Chris. When are you coming back." Miles asked tiredly.
"I'll be back in an hour." Christopher replied and Miles nodded. "Bear, are you inside the house with your luggage and everything? Don't open the door okay. I'll call you when I'll get back."
"C-Chris.... About that.... I left my bag and everything outside. I hardly got in myself." Miles asked in a small voice.
"What the? What now?" Christopher asked him.
"I can go and hurriedly get it inside."
"Stay inside. There is no need to go out. I'll ask Lucas. He isn't picking the call, but I'll reach out to him." Christopher said. "Just stay inside."
"Okay." Miles replied. Christopher cut the call again and Miles heard the phone ringing of the man outside the room.
And his phone ringed again with Christopher's number. He picked the call.
"Bear, open the door. The man outside the room is my friend, let him in." Christopher sounded annoyed.
"The drunk man?" Miles asked shocked.
"Yes, him." Christopher huffed.
"Okay." Miles said hesitantly walking to the door and opened it, peeking out of the door. The man was still lying outside the door, his boot mark clear on his cheek.
"Chris he is unconscious." Miles said.
"Just drag him inside, take your stuff and close the door." Christopher replied. "Stay in your room while I come back."
"Why?" Miles felt like a girl whose brother is concerned about her safety.
"Because, I don't trust Lucas when he is drunk." Christopher cut the call. Miles looked at the unconscious male once again and bend down to clean the dirt from his face.
After that he went straight to the room and closed the door locking it. Sitting on the bed, he couldn't help but think about how adventurous these three hours has been.
And he doesn’t know when he drifted to sleep, holding the pillow close to him.
2 and half year ago. "Mr Volkov, how are you feeling today?" Said the lady dressed in mustard turtleneck. Her voice soft and welcoming. She soflty gazed her hand over Lucas's hair and smiled when Lucas's face broke into warm smile. "I'm Good." He replied. He saw his therapist giving him another warm smile in return. He likes it, the way she smiles, how she always smiles and never once gets irritated by him or shows an expression. "Three words again, that's a progress." She stretched her hand up for a high-five. Lucas took some time but then clapped it. "You?" Lucas asked. He saw the lady stopped turning pages and looked at him. He felt like he stepped a line or something. He lowered his eyes back to his lap. "Im good, great actually, happy." She smiled. "And you know why?" She asked. Lucas looked up, kept watching her and then darted his eyes off. "No." "Because of you, you make me happy." She replied and Lucas's face broke into another smile, this time even the teeth w
"Lucas Volkov, you have a visitor." The sentence alone was enough to fill his body with dread. He never felt all these feelings but now he understands how must it felt to Miles every time he ganged up to assassinate him. Since yesterday— after the court session— he couldn't get the desperate cries and the last glimpse of Miles's face put of his imagination. "Whu-Who is it?" He dared to asked. He wanted to know, he prayed it should be Christopher or James or anyone but not the lady. "You'll see. Now get your ass out here before i drag you out with a chain around your neck." The officer was not in a good mood, he never been. Lucas tried to test his luck, he was sure if the woman didn't come in last two days that means she won't be here today as well, he gave a last look to both his friends who were sitting in there corners not saying a word. "Hurty up!" And he was yanked by his arm resulting in hitting his elbow to the bar. "Put your hands out." The officer didn't even let h
It's very common to feel guilty or ashamed once you see the consequences of your doings, it's common to see people loosing their shit when they come to know ghat what they just did could coast him their life, but Josh isn't one of them. Here, among all these days knowing very well that it was him actually who was responsible for a death of an innocent being, he wasn't ashamed or guilty at all. "You don't feel it?" He turned to see Mortin standing behind him. He just came back meeting his brother and Josh knows what's coming. "Feel what?" He still had the nerve to ask. "The guilt, dread that you killed a human!" Mortin pushed him making his back hit the wall. "Keep you hands in control!" He took a dominant step forward and towered over Mortin. "Why? Huh? Why should i? You never kept your hand to your pocket, so why should i? I didn't do anything still here i am...... i lost everything because of you!!" He lounged forward and punched Josh on his face. Since the last hearin
Moura never left Lucas's side. He sat beside the bed where Lucas was sleeping. His hand in his hair, slowly moving in smooth circles, trying to calm down Lucas. "What's happening to you?" He slowly whispered. He can see Willie don't care what was happening here. He has cut himself off from this cell, from them. "I'm afraid to lose you, Luca." He saw Lucas felt uncomfortable for a bit so he stretched his hand back a little. His gaze however never left the males face. "Did you ever thought that what you do to other can come back to you as well? Did you guys ever believe in Karma?" Moura's looked back at Willie whose questioning gaze pierced his soul. "Like you guys ever thought that you can be vulnerable too, you can be afraid too?" He questioned again. "Willie, if you can't do—-" "How does it feel to be outnumbered and always afraid?" He cut Moura off. "I'm not outnumbered!" "You literally are sitting in jail and you are charged of murder. Still?" "I did not kill—-" "Y
Lucas was taken back to his cell. The officer practically threw him in the room making him bump to the ground and hiss slightly. "I never wanted to hate you, Lucas. But now i do..... more than you think. Your reason was all emotional but it was senseless and absurd." "I'm sorry." Lucas circled an arm around his own body. His shaking body started to feel numb. He had so much to talk to Christopher, but one glance at his pale sick face made everything worse. Christopher hate him......he said he never wanted to.....but he hate him now. Lucas expected a mock from Willie, a hand on his shoulder from Moura but nothing came. He dared to lift his head and look around, it isn't his cell, it's not the same cell where he was taken last time. This room is small, and doesn't even have a window, or a bed......there's nothing. It's an isolation cell. This made Lucas panic, he felt his heart beating so fast and his breathing was heavy as well. Too many memories got triggered. "Keep it down,
James was sitting in the living room. His hair longer than usual, his eyebrows knotted, his hands clutching a glass of water that Cal handed him a few minutes ago. "The medicine is till there, and you are still staring at the void." Cal's voice pulled him out of his thoughts. "How's he now?" James asked Cal. "Still the same. Not even close to get back his consciousness. Doctor said, they'd have to keep him under observation for one more day." Cal replied settling beside James and bending forward to give him the medicines. "I don't get it. Why is all this—- i never wanted to come here, they went and—— I don't know what to even think." James huffed not actually knowing what should he do. "The first trial is in two days. Before that, Christopher was supposed to visit the jail, Lucas-ssi appealed to meet him before the court trial." Cal told him. "All of them are together. Millie will never get the Justice at their hands." James whispered slowly. "It's not what it look like.
