Alina’s POV

“Someone wants to see you” Sebastian announced and it was beginning to sound like a broken record, the last time he had said that it was Vanessa and it didn't end well.

“I don't want to see anyone.” I replied with irritation in my voice and tried not to be too harsh. This conversation couldn't go on forever so I needed to just get through it as quickly as possible.

“I am sure this would be different.” He said trying to persuade me with his eyes “It's important, I swear.”

“How different? I have important things to do, I can't run around playing couple with you all the time” I snapped back. There was a brief silence between us and I took the opportunity of the pause to collect myself and try to calm down before speaking again. “This had better be the last time.” I whispered, almost under my breath. The last thing I wanted was another argument, especially when it came from him.

“I promise you will love who is there.” He whispered back, but it didn't make me happy. I couldn't help but feel like it sounded like a joke or something. Like we could possibly ever...

I felt the familiar sensation in my stomach and I immediately recognized it. It was my anxiety kicking in again. No matter how many times I told myself it wouldn't be happening today, it still happened.

Sebastian drove me to a quiet place, somewhere far away from everything, a park.

“Are you trying to get me killed or something?” I asked, annoyed by the fact that the first thing I had to think about right after getting out of the car was my stupid heart. What was wrong with me?

“Not yet.” He responded and looked over at me. He was looking at me in such an odd way, one which made my face heat up slightly. It wasn't even the kind of look people gave each other when they were thinking about sex, it was more along the lines of someone who knew exactly what you were going to say next. And it always made me squirm.

“Your mother reached out to me.” He began.

“My mother is dead what are you talking about?” My voice raised an octave in annoyance.

“She contacted me” He said in the same tone of voice. “She has been wanting to contact you for months, but decided to surprise you.”

Just when I was about to ask what was going on, she walked towards us.

“Hello Alina.” She said with a smile “You’ve grown since we last met.”

I opened my mouth to reply, but nothing seemed suitable, so I ended up staying silent as I watched her.

Audrey Moreau, the woman whom grew up with, the woman who I thought was my mother, the woman who I never wanted to see again.

“Why is she here? What is she doing here?” I thought to myself, still trying to catch my breath.

Sebastian looked at me confused by my sudden outburst.

“Alina, I…” She tried to touch me and for some reason, I pushed her hand away.

“Don't” I said coldly, then turned to Sebastian“Take me home now.”

“Alina …”

“Don't touch me! Don’t fucking touch me !” I shouted, pushing her away.

She stumbled backwards and put a hand up to her forehead trying to steady herself. Sebastian jumped in “Okay. Take it easy, you're okay.”

“No! Take me home.” By now tears welled up in my eyes and I tried hard to blink them away. “Please take me home” I begged him quietly, my voice barely audible but I was certain he heard me anyway.

He nodded and helped Audrey up off the ground before leading me into the car and then driving away with me in the passenger seat.

All through the ride home, I could feel him watching me constantly and the more he looked, the more the tears fell from my eyes and rolled down my cheeks.

When we pulled up outside, I unbuckled my seatbelt with shaky hands, grabbed my bag and threw it over my shoulder and ran inside.

The second I closed the door behind me, I started sobbing again.

“Alina…” Sebastian surprised me by pulling me into a hug and I broke down completely against him. I wrapped my arms around him tight and sobbed harder. He held me tightly, rubbing soothing circles on my back.

“She is not a good mother, she wasn't good to me, she was not good to anyone except herself. Why would you do that to me?” I said through tears.

Sebastian didn't say anything, instead he listened until I finished speaking. When I did, he spoke.

“I believe you and I am sorry, I didn’t know.”

That was all he said, but it meant a lot to me. If anything, he believed me, which was something that had become increasingly rare.

“When I was younger, I often wondered if I offended my parents. They just don't like my whole existence. They were selfish, they both did drugs and I was forced to start working at thirteen and they took all the money I made. On the days I had no money to refill their liquor, they would beat me for hours and then tell me that if I did it right, I'd only have to work less. It only made sense when I found out I wasn't their daughter. She is not my mother, I never want to be around hurt from the past or the present. I just want to forget about it” I said in a small voice.

Sebastian squeezed me tighter. “You know, sometimes life makes choices that seem impossible, but in the end it turns out okay. You've proven to yourself that your life doesn't need any more pain. I am really sorry.” He explained with complete sincerity.

For a few minutes, we stayed like that, just holding each other close. It helped me to calm down, even if it didn't help my emotional state. I wasn't used to crying so openly in front of anyone not to mention Sebastian Wolfe.

Alina’s POV “And she lives” Those were the first words that rolled out of Sebastian’s mother’s lips once Sebastian pushed me in through the door and let it slam behind him.I winced at the sound as I looked around. His parents and sister’s faces held no love, not even a hint of affection. In fact, they just looked like they’d seen better days. They made it clear as usual that I wasn't welcome and I didn't want to be. “Very generous of you, Mother” Sebastian’s voice reeked of sarcasm as he leaned down with a sneer. “You really think I would give up my wife?”I cringed away from his sneer. “Sebastian…” I tried to reach out for his hand but he moved his body away from mine, so I gave up and slumped my hands against my sides instead. The room was so cold I could see my breath as his mother continued, “You might have had your pick of the women in town. But then, I suppose, there’s always one who isn’t worthy of being yours.”Sebastian stood still for a moment before saying, in a very

Alina’s POV“What if it was him?” that voice echoed in my mind, causing me to look up and look around me, I was alone and lost in my thoughts.I shivered involuntarily.I didn't understand where that question even came from. But the voices in my head were active. “Alina, are you even listening to me?” One snapped, pulling further into my thoughts.“Who?” I asked, confused. I knew who it asked for, and I knew what it was talking about but trust me when I say no one wanted their fears to be confirmed.“That’s what I was wondering” another sighed. “What if it was ” it repeated its question. I could imagine the voice as that of a lean woman, staring at me with crossed her arms and warm amber eyes piercing through the bottom of my soul and trying to figure me out but I looked away immediately. The hair in my arms stood involuntarily at the mention of his name, causing my whole body to tense up. I remembered the last time. I was giving him more power than necessary. He still managed to b

Sebastian’s POV “What is this madness?” One of the men yelled, he was staring at me with cold icy eyes, and his accent was heavy.“What does it look like? Be patient and watch.” I responded calmly, although I really wanted to tear them into pieces. When the video finished playing, they both turned to me, faces white as paper, their mouths agape. I could have sworn that their hearts skipped a few beats when the video played the first time. Then one of them looked at the other, he gave him a slight nod as if he had just completed some kind of mission. The one called Pierre cleared his voice. “What do you want?”he asked. He didn't seem so confident now. In fact he seemed downright scared. But what was there to be afraid of, he thought. I’m not going to kill you or anything, so calm down. Calm down.“Well, first of all, you need to answer a question for me” A smirk appeared on my face. The man looked surprised but nodded in agreement. “Did you really think you could get away with hara

Sebastian’s POV “The French men, they molested me” The words fell off her lips and I could feel the blood rushing to my face, though there was no emotion on her face. This was a mistake, I must have misheard. It couldnt be possible. All I saw was red. I was angry and sad and confused and scared. I couldn't remember why I had felt these things, but I remembered those words very cleary. Those words were engraved into my mind, they found a way to keep themselves in my memory. It played on a loop in my mind, the image of her lying broken and bleeding on the floor, the smell of her fear in my nostrils, her broken soul. It felt like I could remember her, more like sew every single detail, the sound of her screams, and every single word she screamed. The way her eyes were wide open and full of fear as she tried to call for me, I'd always hear it echoing in my mind. I could picture the men laughing while they tossed her back and forth, I could imagine them staring at her luscious body,

Alina’s POV My vision blurred when I woke up and blinked away the dark spots in front of my eyes, trying to understand where I was, what happened. My body felt tense like a rubber band pulled taut as it stretched from my shoulders to my knees, but when I tried to move any muscle in my body it just hurt. It was like there were wires connected to all my limbs, some in my back, others in my legs and feet. It made it hard for me to sit up, so I had to lean against the bed.“Relax…” I heard a familiar voice. “Just relax. You're fine.""Mister?" I croaked out, my voice sounding raw even to my own ears. He laughed.“From Sebastian to Mister, but I will take it” he said. His voice sounded distant, like I was listening through a tunnel. “You're safe here, we're going to get you out of that position in a few minutes, just let your muscles uncoil." His warm hand rested lightly on my shoulder. “I feel trapped.”"It's okay...you're not trapped." I could hear the smile in his voice. “You ju

Sebastian’s POVShe looked so frail as she laid there in the hospital bed, her head was wrapped up in bandages and her face pale and sickly looking from her blood loss. After she stormed off at the park, I didn't go after her. I didn't expect her to go far either but soon time passed and there was no sign of Alina. So I assumed she had gone home but when I got home, she wasn't back. She didn't answer any of my calls or texts. Eventually she returned, her shoulders hung lowly in defeat but still she stood tall with a defiant tilt to her chin and a determined set to her eyes. I could still tell something wasnt right from the way her body stiffened and her gaze avoided mine. “Where have you been?” She shrugged noncommittally. “Around.” Her voice sounded like it belonged to someone else. It was quiet and flat and hollow. But the more her expression changed, the more I realized how much I hated that look on her. It only lasted a second before her facade slipped and tears fell
