“A RACE TO THE FREELAND”

Meredith’s POV:

I awoke in a room that I was unaccustomed to, my eyes flickering as I attempted to regain my bearings. A faint headache lingered as I slid up the headboard, positioning myself upright and allowing my eyes to adjust. The room was still predominantly dark, however the silver haze peering over the mountains alluded to smoke, hence the fabled name smokey mountains. My room had one small table lamp still lit on low across the room nearest the door.

My dream had been so vivid, the vision of my friend calling to me, her pleas for help. I began to remember everything that had transpired only a few hours ago and figured that all had left to find Bridgette as everything was silent now. I took a deep breath and exhaled as I swing my legs from under the covers and place my soles onto the hardwood floor. It took a moment for me to remember that I had cut up my feet only hours earlier and alarmed I lifted my right leg back
