View MoreIt was winter period in Los Angeles, the weather was chilly, snow cascading comfortably down the sky.
Ivy walked through the glass door of a hospital, her stride large and her eyes focused. She was going to see a doctor. Earlier today, Ivy had tripped and fell in her office. She had her head felt light and her eyes spinning, then in few minutes, she was welcomed into darkness. Ivy laid there motionless for almost thirty minutes until she regained consciousness again. Her eyes still heavy and drowsy she staggered to take water, only then she was able to put herself together. Thanks goodness no one was around to see her, else she would have became the talk of her office. She adjusted her mask as she opened the door slowly into the doctor's office. When she got in, Ivy swiped down her mask. "Hi Doctor Collins.." She greeted the man who had a pleasant smile upon seeing her. "Please have your sit Mrs Taylor." He muttered, his tone calm and polite. When she sat down, doctor Collins began inquiring about her symptoms which she replied firmly. From there, she proceeded to the lab where her blood was drawn for diagnosis. Ivy sat quietly waiting for her results and prescription. Whatever was wrong with her should not be more than a fatigue, or whatever it was, she couldn't wait to get her medications and get out of the hospital. She had so many works back there to do. As a team leader, her desk was always choked with work. Also Ivy was a very diligent workaholic who doesn't joke with her job, even though her husband owned the company. She worked hard like every other employee in the company. Few minutes later, Doctor Collins called her back to his office, her results were ready. Her medications must be prescribed already, it shouldn't take much time. But when she got there, doctor Collins only asked her to sit down, she sat, but instead of handling her the medications to leave. He started with. "Mrs Taylor, why are you stressing yourself so much in your condition?" Ivy had her forehead scrunched together. What did he mean in her condition? When doctor Collins saw the puzzled look on her face, he only thought of one thing, ‘maybe she doesn't know yet’. "Mrs Taylor, you're two months pregnant and you must do away with anything that's giving you stress." Ivy had her mouth opened wide along with her eyes. She couldn't believe this news. "Are.. are you serious doctor?" She asked, her breath husky and her chest going up and down. Ivy had been married for over three years without even a miscarriage and now she was pregnant? Just how? "Yes Mrs Taylor, you're already two month into it, you have to start your antenatal care as soon as possible." Ivy's hand moved slowly to her stomach, still in disbelief. There was a life growing inside her stomach now? Doctor Collins nodded, his smile widening. Strings of joy overwhelmed Ivy's heart. She was finally carrying Ryder's child. She caressed her stomach which was still flat, although she knew she added few weights, but Ivy never imagined she was carrying an angel in her stomach. Her smile brightened. This was a good news for her and her family. She was sure Ryder would be so happy to hear this. Although he had been mute and never questioned her for not being pregnant all this years, but she knew he was concerned about it. Ryder loved her so much and for the past three years of their marriage, he had never put anyone above her. Not even his family. Not even when his sister came trying to make her feel bad for not having a child, Ryder warned her to never come back to their house again. He was that protective of her and cherished her dearly. "Thank you so much Doctor, I'll have to leave now to go break this great news to my husband." "Alright Mrs Taylor, make sure to start your antenatal care on time." "Thank you." With that, Ivy drifted away. She hopped into her BMW 7-series and drove off. She couldn't wait to get home and tell her husband. She walked through that elegant door of their penthouse, her face glowing and smile plastered on her lips as she rushed in to meet Ryder. But when she got in, the house was quite. Ryder was usually back by this time and the TV would always be on running and loud as Ryder watch football or play video games, this was his specific time, but today Ryder wasn't at home doing any of that. Ivy wondered why. Does he have extra work at the office? That wasn't possible, as Ryder always take this time off, to enjoy his 1hour moment before going back to any work he had. She checked the time again to be sure, but she was right, this was his leisure period. What happened? Ivy's shoulder slumped. Where had her husband gone without informing her? He often tell her if there was a change in his schedule, what was happening? Ivy decided to wait for when he'd return, she would ask when he started behaving like this. With her sullen face, she walked into her bathroom for a quick shower. When she was done, she put on her pyjamas and hopped back on the couch to put on their TV. She was going to watch the news , as a big company, their stock price was always discussed and put on the news by journalists. She doesn't often watch this, but she needed it now to keep her self busy till her husband returned. Just as Ivy put on the broadcasting station, a recap came up. In the recap, there was an elegant lady in a very flying hat, her skin flawless and a huge sunglass plastered on her face. She exuded elegance, beside her was who she couldn't believe it was. It couldn't be her husband right? This wasn't Ryder was it? And who was the lady?"Sheila. Get a hold of yourself. What we had then is in the past. I have a wife now." Ryder muttered, his tone cold.Sheila sighed. Since she came back, there was nothing she had not done to get Ryder into bed with her, but his mind was too strong. But she'd get him, definitely. He was hers from the beginning and would always be hers."Alright, let's go for lunch, I'd love to have lunch outside today." She muttered, her tone seductive."I'm choked with work right now Sheila, I'll join you later." Ryder muttered. With that, Sheila knew he had just turned her down.Who was Ivy? Even if she was beautiful, she was more beautiful than her, she had the vibe that Ryder needed, why was he playing hard to get back?Seething with anger and resentment, she made a note in her heart, if she couldn't get Ryder like this, then she'd frustrate Ivy out of his life. She'd go back to that b!tch now. Her hills clicking loudly on the cold floor, complementing the anger boiling inside her heart, she walk
"Have you lost your manners?" Ivy yelled, her frustration edged on her forehead.Sheila's eyes widened at the condition of her office."Are you packing?" She queried, with a slight smirk on her lips.It was obvious she wanted her to leave."I'm taking some books out why?" Ivy lied, she wouldn't give her the satisfaction of making her feel she was leaving the office for her."Ow alright, so how is it? I told you right? You'll do it, you don't have a choice." She muttered, mockery filled in her voice."Yes I'm doing it, not because you asked me to, but because Ryder my husband asked me to do it, due to your lack of experience." Ivy muttered, then smirked to her face. She could see Sheila balled her fist beside her. Her forehead slowly deepening into a frown. Ivy was right, she had no experience being an MD. Even when she still owned her company, she wasn't always around to manage any deals, Sheila was always interested in clubbing with her friends. And how her company was hijacked from
Her eyes welled up with tears. The man she had loved with every fiber of her being. He had also loved her like she was the only woman that ever existed, but now, he had changed completely from who he used to be. He lied to her about almost everything. Why was he calling now? What does he want? She knew why he was calling and she scoffed painfully. It was obvious. He was calling on behalf of Sheila. To make her take the job. When Sheila mentioned he listened to her now instead of his wife, she didn't doubt that. Now he was calling to command her to take on Sheila's job along with her own. How more cruel could he get? She was even pregnant with his baby. She picked up the call on the third ring. "Ivy, please see me in my office.." He muttered, his voice unusually soft, as if weighed down by guilt. Ivy's frown deepened. She didn't know what to say to him _ she wasn't sure if she wanted to see him yet. "Please.." His voice came on again. "Okay.." Ivy muttered, he
"Say that again." Ivy threatened, her voice cold. "You will do the interview." Sheila muttered once again, her voice fierce and determined. "What?" Ivy's reeling voice echoed. "Yes, that's why I let them direct the email to you." Sheila snarled. "That's not my job, I wouldn't do it." "But you will, you would do the interview, the negotiation as well as the work." Ivy's brows raised and her fist tightened even harder, her knuckles turning white. Where does she get all this nerves? "And I said I wouldn't do it!" "Well.. we'll see about that." Sheila muttered, her lips tilted into a smirk. Ivy's blood boiled in her blood. If they were outside, she'd have sent slaps across her face, but this was office. She clenched her teeth hard. "You better not look forward to it. Word of advice." She muttered. "We'll see to that." Sheila replied, making her more reeled up. She balled her fist tightly and turned to leave. Few minutes later, she arrived at her office. She cou
Her face twisted in anger. Even though she tried to act strong and hide it, it could be clearly seen that she was heart broken. "Do you have to attend?" Larisa asked, feeling deeply for Ivy. "Let's go.." Ivy picked up a file and walked out of her office. She needed to see clearly the woman who had taken what was rightfully hers. She needed to see how she fit into a position that was clearly meant for her. Larisa walked along with her. When they got to the hall, Sheila sat with her chin held high with a fierce look on her face, right beside Ryder. Ivy's fingers balled into a tight fist. She was loosing it inside, tears were threatening to drown her face, but she had to hold on tightly, she refused to show any sign of vulnerability. Swallowing her lumps, she walked towards a sit. Her eyes never leaving Ryder as he spoke. She watched his lips going up and down as he announced Sheila as the new managing director of designs. Ivy clenched her teeth tightly. Ryder couldn't e
"Ivy.." He breathed. Ivy's heart beat faster, waiting for whatever he had to say. "I.. I.. I'm sorry Ivy.." Ryder muttered, his voice low and his eyes still looking everywhere except Ivy's. "Sorry? Why? I'm just working here now, how's that offensive? Ow did that offend Ivy?" Sheila muttered, her face soft with her brows raised, but Ivy didn't reply, she was quiet, still finding it hard to believe. Why was he sorry? Was Sheila saying the truth? Does she work in the company now? This question juggled her mind "Sheila's business isn't doing good at the moment Ivy.. so she has to work with us for now." Ryder's voice pushed through.. Ivy bit on her lower lips. Sheila had grown from just coming to the office to now officially working with them. Ryder sure had lost his mind. With her face twisted in anger, Ivy left his office. Larisa followed her up as she sighted her. "I'm truly sorry Viee, I can't believe Mr CEO will do something like this.. we all know you're the one fo
