Chapter Two: Dad's Dying.

Eli's POV

“So how is the preparation?” Ashley asked.

“It is done already. We will be meeting the bridegroom today to finalize things.” I replied as I wore my wristwatch.

“Really? What was the theme you used?” she asked. I picked out my phone and stretched it out to her.

“Wow, brown and purple?” She said and I nodded my head..

“Weirdly, the bride wanted me to use brown and the bride groom purple. When I asked them if it was one of them favorite color, they both said no and said they just wanted something. I did not bother to ask them and went on with it. After we were yesterday, I sent them pictures of the venue and I could hear excitement from the bride even though the bride groom was merely interested when we spoke.” I explained.

Ash looked at me in the mirror. “Could it be arranged marriage?”

“Arranged marriage where the bride is ecstatic as that? The romance novels I read did not say that. They always say…”

“That they hate the male lead and later fall in love?” Ash cut in and I scoffed.

“You refused to read the one I gave you.” I said and she sighed.

“Anyway, we finished it yesterday and it will be happening tomorrow. The marriage I mean.” I said and she nodded her head.

As soon as I was done wearing my necklace, I turned around to look at Ash. “What are you planning to do?” I asked her.

“Nothing. Probably stroll around the street.” She said with her shoulders lifted in an half shrug.

“I see. Then I am gone.” I said, carrying my bag and leaving. I stopped before the door and whirled around. “Don’t kill yourself.” I said and she started laughing.

“scared?”

“I am not scared of them finding your corpse in my house but you haunting me is something I don’t want.” I said and she nodded her head as laughter bubbled out. I managed to chuckled and left for my car in the garage.

Today was as hectic as any day when the venue was happening. I had to make sure everything was fine and guess what, it went good. I had asked Ashley to follow me to the place and also to make her lighten her mood but she blatantly refused to go. I understood her. It was just like rubbing salt ok her wound. I did not force her so I left her.

“Wow, one down. Many to go.” We all cheered. It has become a tradition for the innate workers to holding something like some celebration once our wedding planning contract goes well.

“Miss Elisabeth has always been a good leader. Congratulations.” One of the oldest workers said and I smiled at her

“We did this together.” I said and they all nodded their heads. My phone vibrated in the purse and I slowly moved out from their midst as the cheered. I stared at the caller ID.

J for Jace.

My elder brother was calling me. Hasn't he given up? He knows so well that I won't pick his call. I pressed the red button and sighed.

“Miss Elisa, hurry up.” Someone yelled my name from the group and I moved towards them with a smile on my lips. We talked about our struggles on how we decorated and everything. It was just lively but then my mind was baffled. My brother calling me after he stopped is something I know has meaning but why was he calling after three whole years since I left for Great Dane City?

My phone beeped with a message alert and I knew it was from him. I ignored it and continued speaking.

After what seemed like hours and it was already getting dark. “I think we should all go home. Tomorrow is Sunday so it is off for us.” I said and they nodded their heads. I stood up and went for my car. Dropping my bag, I ignited the car's engine and soon drove off. I expected few more calls and messages alert from my brother but none came.

Sighs.

I drove in to the garage and headed for my apartment. Even though I had rented this place, I could not bear to leave my life here to go to my parents place. Even though I know how it would gladden my father’s heart to see his one and only daughter. I also want to see him. But I have to. He has to be proud of me with my job.

I knocked on the door and pushed it open before I entered and slumped on the chair. “I see your venue went well.” Ash said, entering the living room. I turned to look at her and nodded my head.

“How was your day?” I asked and she smiled.

“Fine.” She said with shrug.

Well, what did I expect?

“I am exhausted. I need to eat, bath and sleep.” I said, standing up and staggering towards the room. My phone beeped but I hisses out as I slammed the door shut. Going into the bathroom, I quickly showered and headed out to eat something before sleeping.

“Ash…” I gazed at my best friend facial expression. She slowly lifted her face to look at me… her eyes were dazed and her brows twitched. For that sign, something bad must have happened.

Was her boyfriend dead? It will serve him right.

“Ashley, what happened?” I asked, moving closer to her. She raised her hands up and I saw my phone in her hands.

Oops, she must be mad that I did not tell her about Jace calling.

“Hey, I know. I am sorry. He has been disturbing me for years now.” I said but she did not move. Her lips slightly part as if she wanted to say something but could not make words. She was really getting me scared. I hurried towards her and snatched the phone from her.

The first thing I saw there made me gasp in shock.

My dad's dying!
