I ended the call and leaned back in my seat, the phone still in my hand.
Alex and the driver were in front, quiet as usual. But I couldn’t hide the small smile that tugged at my lips.
“Maria’s got something.” I said quietly.
Alex turned a little in his seat. “Sir?”
“Maria. She’s finally decided. She wants to start a bar.”
Alex nodded. “That’s good news.”
But he looked again through the mirror. Then asked, “Why are you smiling about it, if you don’t mind me asking?”
I stared out the window.
“She wants to be involved, Alex. She’s not like Alexa.”
Alex stayed quiet, but I knew he was listening.
“She’s not asking for money or gifts. She wants to help. Be part of something,” I added. “Alexa never wanted that. All she wanted was pleasure. To try things in bed, to play with new partners, and enjoy the money.”
Alex gave a short nod like he understood, and I knew he did.
I looked back out the window. Everything outside looked normal. Cars driving by, people walking, streetlights coming on.
And then, just like that, a car came out of nowhere.
It rammed into us really hard.
The whole SUV jerked sideways.
The driver gripped the wheel, but it was too late. We had already been hit.
Before I could react, a person jumped out of the other car.
Gunshots.
I ducked fast, so did Alex and the driver. A loud crack hit the glass by my side. The bullet didn’t get through, but it left a deep spider-like crack on the window.
More shots. Then silence.
I raised my head slowly.
The shooter was already getting back into the car.
But I saw her.
A young woman.
And I recognized her.
“She’s trying to drive off!” the driver shouted.
He tried to start the car, but the front glass was too damaged to see through.
“I can’t drive, boss. The windshield is gone.”
Alex was already on the phone. “Shots fired! We’ve been hit. Sending our location now.”
The security team would track us in seconds. I knew that. Still, I wasn’t going to just sit here.
“We should wait here, sir,” Alex said from the front. “They’ll be here any moment.”
“No,” I said, opening the door.
“Boss, wait!” Alex shouted, but I had already stepped out.
People were standing around, staring at the car, at us. Some held their phones, recording.
I didn’t care.
I turned and walked toward the nearest building.
It was a hotel.
A fancy one.
I walked in. Alex and the driver followed close behind.
“We need a room,” Alex told the receptionist. “The most secure one.”
She looked shocked but didn’t waste time. She typed something quickly and requested a card to check in. Alex gave her a card and within a minute, we were given a keycard.
Some hotel security men who had seen the scene outside approached and asked if we were okay. I believed he could tell from my car that I was a very important person and so he offered to help.
“We saw what happened, sir,” one of them said. “If you allow us, we can move your vehicle inside and begin checking it for details. Even help your security team when they arrive.”
Alex tried to respond. “That wouldn't be nevertheless, our team is on their…”
But I stopped him. “Let them.”
Alex looked at me but said nothing. He gave a nod to the driver who handed the car keys to the head of security who gave it to another of his team.
The head of security led us upstairs and walked us to the room.
“This is one of our secure suites,” he said. “There’s a phone here. Dial zero if you need direct help. We’ll post guards at the door.”
I gave a small nod.
“Thank you,” Alex said as the man left.
Once the door shut, Alex turned to me quickly. “Boss, do you know who that was?”
I didn’t say anything at first.
I walked toward the window, looking outside even though there was nothing there.
“Yes.”
Alex stepped closer. “Who is she?”
I paused again, the name already on my lips.
“I don’t know her well,” I said. “ But I can remember her name.”
Alex waited.
“Stephanie,” I said.
Maria's POV I laid still beside him, watching his chest rise and fall. Luca was asleep now but I couldn't get a thought out of my headLuca had released inside me. Again.I ran my hand lightly over my stomach. I don’t even know how many times it’s happened now. And nothing. No changes. No missed periods. No scares.Or maybe I can’t get pregnant. Or maybe Luca is the one who can’t.A part of me thought maybe that was a good thing.Because how do we even bring a child into this kind of life? Into this kind of danger? It might feel peaceful now. No one’s chasing us. No one’s threatening us. But Luca has enemies. He lives in a world where peace is only what you see on the outside. On the inside, everything is chaos. A lot of enemies who are likely waiting for a good chance to get to him.A child would change things. A child would be a target. And what if something happened to Luca? What if something happened to me?I closed my eyes, breathing out slowly. And then… the girl Stephanie cam
Luca's POVI laid on the bed, face down, not moving. The room was quiet except for the sound of the room's quietness. My eyes were closed, but I wasn’t asleep. I couldn’t sleep. Not with everything going through my head.Stephanie. Gunshots. Alexa…The things echoed in my mind like I wanted to live there. She was just a girl. A girl I had allowed myself to use and pleasure with like a toy. But why did she have to come now and with a gun?If it has been someone else and even if it was I who hurt them, I wouldn't let them get away but with her, I feel like she's got a reason to punish me.I needed to find her, that's why I needed every help I could get. Hotel security or mine.I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding, trying to relax, but it wasn’t still working. I just felt… off. Then I heard Maria’s soft steps. She walked quietly, like she didn’t want to disturb me. She didn’t ask anything more. She didn’t say a word. She just got into the bed and gently laid on top of me. Her
Maria's POV“I know the shooter,” Luca said. “And I think I know why she might have wanted to kill me.”Those words stayed in my head as the water kept running down both our bodies. I was still holding him from behind, but I could feel how heavy those words were on him.I didn’t ask him anything else. I just let the silence fill the space between us.Then he reached for the shower knob and turned off the shower.Without a word, he stepped out and grabbed his robe. He didn’t even look at me. He just wrapped the robe around his body and walked out of the bathroom. I picked up a towel and followed.By the time I got to the room, he was already sitting on the couch. His robe was loose, almost falling off his shoulder. He looked... exhausted. Not just from the attack, but from what was bothering him deep inside.Whatever it was was surely eating Luca up.I walked over and sat on his lap.I rested my head on his chest and didn’t say anything. I just wanted him to know I was here. He didn’t
Luca's POV “Stephanie,” I said.Alex blinked. “I don’t think I recognise that name, boss.”“You wouldn’t,” I replied, voice low. “She was one of the girls Alexa used to bring in. For her pleasure. Our pleasure, as Alexa used to say.”I shook my head a little.“But it was always her thing more than mine. I was fine with just Alexa, you know. But she had a taste for trying things... different things. Stephanie was one of them.”Alex nodded slowly. “Still, why would she want to kill you?”“I don’t know,” I said truthfully.I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. Maria.I looked at the screen, then at Alex. “Did you tell her?”“Who, Maria? No.” Alex replied quickly.I answered.“Luca?” Maria’s voice was anxious. “What’s going on? The security here just told me you were attacked. Are you okay?”“I’m fine,” I said, trying to keep my voice calm. “Don’t you worry.”Alex’s phone vibrated now and he stepped to the side to answer. A moment later, he turned to me. “Our team is here.”I nodded, then

Maria's POV I didn’t go straight home.Something pulled me into a small local coffee shop by the corner. It wasn’t fancy or shiny, just warm and quiet. The kind of place you would miss if you didn't look well.As soon as I stepped in, the smell hit me. Coffee, donuts and something sweet I couldn’t place. I stopped for a second, just breathing it in.God, I missed this.It reminded me of Red Coffee. Back when Sophia and I worked late shifts and used to hide leftover bagels in our bags. We’d take them home, make cheap coffee, sit on the floor, and laugh about our day. Most times, we joked about the customers. Those customers with strange accents, people who talked too much, or ordered like they were royalty. We used to laugh till our cheeks hurt.I smiled a little just thinking about it.“Hi,” the girl behind the counter said. “What can I get you?”“Just a donut. And coffee, black.”She nodded and got to work. I moved to the side and leaned against the counter. My eyes moved across the
