Luca's POV

“Stephanie,” I said.

Alex blinked. “I don’t think I recognise that name, boss.”

“You wouldn’t,” I replied, voice low. “She was one of the girls Alexa used to bring in. For her pleasure. Our pleasure, as Alexa used to say.”

I shook my head a little.

“But it was always her thing more than mine. I was fine with just Alexa, you know. But she had a taste for trying things... different things. Stephanie was one of them.”

Alex nodded slowly. “Still, why would she want to kill you?”

“I don’t know,” I said truthfully.

I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. Maria.

I looked at the screen, then at Alex. “Did you tell her?”

“Who, Maria? No.” Alex replied quickly.

I answered.

“Luca?” Maria’s voice was anxious. “What’s going on? The security here just told me you were attacked. Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” I said, trying to keep my voice calm. “Don’t you worry.”

Alex’s phone vibrated now and he stepped to the side to answer. A moment later, he turned to me. “Our team is here.”

I nodded, then returned to Maria. “Security’s here to get me. I’ll be on my way home soon, okay? Just stay where you are. Don’t go out. I’ll be fine.”

She hesitated. “Okay. Please come home soon.”

“I will,” I said, then ended the call.

A few moments later, the door opened and members of my security walked in with two others from the hotel.

“Boss,” one of them said in Italian. “We’re truly sorry for the incident. Are you hurt?”

“I’m fine,” I said, brushing past them.

Alex wasn’t so calm. “What’s the update? How are you tracking the shooter?”

“We’re already on it,” one said. “The hotel security said they’re ready to help. Should we work with them?”

“Yes,” I said before Alex could stop them. “Work with them. We need every help we can get. I need that shooter.”

They nodded and followed behind as we made our way out of the hotel and into the car my security had brought.

The drive home was fast but also silent.

The closer we got to the house, the more I could feel something shift in my chest.

Immediately I got inside my home, I could already see Maria pacing around.

She rushed forward the moment I stepped into the house and wrapped her arms around me.

I held her back, burying my face in her hair for a moment.

She smelled good, really good. Like something soft and warm that I didn’t deserve.

She pulled back, looking up at me. “You’re okay?”

“I’m fine.”

Louisa came down the hallway. “Should I make something for you, sir?” She asked in Italian.

“No,” I replied back. “Maybe later. Or in the morning.”

Maria walked with me up the stairs. We didn’t speak.

When we got to the room, she helped me out of my jacket, then slowly started with my shirt.

Her hands moved gently, but her eyes were searching me. Like she knew something was off.

“I want a shower,” I muttered.

She nodded.

I finished taking off my clothes, not waiting for her help this time. Pants, underwear, everything came off.

I walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower.

Hot water poured down my body.

But I didn’t move.

I just stood there, water hitting and burning my skin but my mind was somewhere far away. Far away but blank.

I was thinking of Stephanie but I wasn't entirely sure what I was thinking about but it just had to do with why she would want to kill me.

I heard movement.

Then arms wrapped around me from behind. Soft skin. Bare. Wet hair pressing against my back. Maria's breasts warm against me.

My sweet Maria. My doll.

She didn’t say anything.

She just held me.

I let her. And for a while, it was just the sound of water and silence.

Then I opened my mouth.

Not sure what I wanted to say but I knew I wanted to say something.

“I know the shooter,” I finally said. “And I think I know why she might have wanted to kill me.”

Liam’s POVI was sitting alone in my office, the light from the window spreading across the files on my office desk.Everything was quiet. Just the quiet sound of the whatever it was that was humming, I don't what it is. I don't even care.Right now, I was just thinking about one person.Luca De Rossi. His name was everywhere in my head. Like a shadow I couldn’t outrun. I had been following his trail for years, but it still felt like I was only scratching the surface.Just as I was about to lean back and close my eyes for a bit, my phone buzzed. It was Marcus.I picked.“Someone tried to kill Luca De Rossi,” he said.I sat up. “What? What do you mean?”“An attempt was made on him. Not long ago.”I frowned. “What happened?”“It’s not what happened. It’s who,” Marcus said. “The shooter… was Stephanie.”I blinked. “Wait… what?”“She told me herself. She was the one who shot at Luca. But she didn’t get him. His car’s bulletproof. Barely getting anyone.”Of course it is. I sighed. “What wa

Maria's POV I laid still beside him, watching his chest rise and fall. Luca was asleep now but I couldn't get a thought out of my headLuca had released inside me. Again.I ran my hand lightly over my stomach. I don’t even know how many times it’s happened now. And nothing. No changes. No missed periods. No scares.Or maybe I can’t get pregnant. Or maybe Luca is the one who can’t.A part of me thought maybe that was a good thing.Because how do we even bring a child into this kind of life? Into this kind of danger? It might feel peaceful now. No one’s chasing us. No one’s threatening us. But Luca has enemies. He lives in a world where peace is only what you see on the outside. On the inside, everything is chaos. A lot of enemies who are likely waiting for a good chance to get to him.A child would change things. A child would be a target. And what if something happened to Luca? What if something happened to me?I closed my eyes, breathing out slowly. And then… the girl Stephanie cam

Luca's POVI laid on the bed, face down, not moving. The room was quiet except for the sound of the room's quietness. My eyes were closed, but I wasn’t asleep. I couldn’t sleep. Not with everything going through my head.Stephanie. Gunshots. Alexa…The things echoed in my mind like I wanted to live there. She was just a girl. A girl I had allowed myself to use and pleasure with like a toy. But why did she have to come now and with a gun?If it has been someone else and even if it was I who hurt them, I wouldn't let them get away but with her, I feel like she's got a reason to punish me.I needed to find her, that's why I needed every help I could get. Hotel security or mine.I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding, trying to relax, but it wasn’t still working. I just felt… off. Then I heard Maria’s soft steps. She walked quietly, like she didn’t want to disturb me. She didn’t ask anything more. She didn’t say a word. She just got into the bed and gently laid on top of me. Her

Maria's POV“I know the shooter,” Luca said. “And I think I know why she might have wanted to kill me.”Those words stayed in my head as the water kept running down both our bodies. I was still holding him from behind, but I could feel how heavy those words were on him.I didn’t ask him anything else. I just let the silence fill the space between us.Then he reached for the shower knob and turned off the shower.Without a word, he stepped out and grabbed his robe. He didn’t even look at me. He just wrapped the robe around his body and walked out of the bathroom. I picked up a towel and followed.By the time I got to the room, he was already sitting on the couch. His robe was loose, almost falling off his shoulder. He looked... exhausted. Not just from the attack, but from what was bothering him deep inside.Whatever it was was surely eating Luca up.I walked over and sat on his lap.I rested my head on his chest and didn’t say anything. I just wanted him to know I was here. He didn’t

I ended the call and leaned back in my seat, the phone still in my hand.Alex and the driver were in front, quiet as usual. But I couldn’t hide the small smile that tugged at my lips.“Maria’s got something.” I said quietly.Alex turned a little in his seat. “Sir?”“Maria. She’s finally decided. She wants to start a bar.”Alex nodded. “That’s good news.”But he looked again through the mirror. Then asked, “Why are you smiling about it, if you don’t mind me asking?”I stared out the window.“She wants to be involved, Alex. She’s not like Alexa.”Alex stayed quiet, but I knew he was listening.“She’s not asking for money or gifts. She wants to help. Be part of something,” I added. “Alexa never wanted that. All she wanted was pleasure. To try things in bed, to play with new partners, and enjoy the money.”Alex gave a short nod like he understood, and I knew he did.I looked back out the window. Everything outside looked normal. Cars driving by, people walking, streetlights coming on.And
