Katie had turned her entire closet upside down and yet she could not find any suitable clothes in the colour 'gray' she could wear to work tommorow. Gritting her teeth, she cursed whoever it had been that'd brought about the change of color code. Like seriously, what kind of colours were black, white and ash?! So dull! But she'd have to adhere to the colour code whether she liked it or not. Except she was ready to start looking for another good paying job in another multi trillion dollar firm. Katherine Cooper slumped down on her bed with a groan. Brushing some strands of hair off her sweaty forehead, she caught sight of her laptop sitting atop her reading table right next to the bed. And then she had an idea! Kate reached out and pulled it to herself. Soon she was surfing the internet, going through online malls in search of an 'emergency' outfit to buy. Thanks to Nick, she no longer had to save up to pay her outstanding rent- which was just one out of the many debts uncle Johnathan
"When is the event going to take place?" She asked. "8p.m. Tonight." "What?! And you're just telling me that now?!" Katherine said, standing up in alarm. She took a quick glance at her watch. "It's seven twenty five already. What are we still doing here?!" They started out of Mocha at once. "There's barely enough time for me to go back home and change!" She said, taking a second look at the invitation letter. "It says the colour code is Bordeaux. Dress and tux only. I'm not sure I have anything in this color!'' She panicked, getting into the front passenger seat of his car. "Don't worry. I've got it all covered." He assured. Cars of the Ferrari brand weren't renowned for their speed for nothing. They zoomed down the streets, buildings and people fleeting past with quick succession. However, Katherine's quick eyes were still able to keep track of their location. "Wha..?" She turned her head to look at Nicholas Smith when they drove past Marilyn Monroe avenue. He seemed focused on t
He'd been standing with his back to her but as Katherine stepped out into the cool starry skied darkness that was fast blooming into a beautiful night, he turned. No other man could've worn such an immaculate evening dress with such an outlandish amount of panache. The color code was bordeaux, which originally wasn't a bright colour to begin with, but his was so dark it was almost black, save for the patches here and there that glinted a claret wine color under the moonlight. Dressed in his expensive-looking Bordeaux tux, his raven black hair emphasized his 'dark and mysterious' look, and reminded a lot of a younger version of a main character- whose name was Vlad Impaler- in a movie she'd seen few years back, called "Dracula Untold." He began to stride towards her in his usual way and Katherine froze where she was. Her legs which had turned to jelly at the sight of him were telling her that soon, they'd not be able to bear her body's weight if she did not stop. His gaze glided ove
Stumbling down an alley, Kate soon came on an intersection between roads. She didn't need to risk getting a heart attack from taking another look back to know they were closing in on her. Her trembling lips were about to let out a scream of terror when, as if conjured by magic, a black maybach skid down to a halt just in front of her. If she'd moved a step forward from where she stood, she'd have walked right into its path! The window to the driver's seat slid down with amplified urgency. "Get in!" Nicholas Smith ordered imperiously. Her mind still numbed with fear, and frozen stiff from the shock of being nearly run over, Katherine stood like a sculpting of stone despite the impending danger her delay was hastening. Coolly in command, he got out, opened the door and pushed her gently but firmly into the back passenger seat. The men who had been hot on her heels slunk back into the shadows of the darkened street on seeing that she'd gotten help. They weren't quick enough to preve
Chapter 23"I can't believe you could do something so spendthrift!" Katherine confuted, setting her purse on the polished mahogany table. "Do what?" Nick quizzed in a honeyed voice, a phony look of innocence on his face. "I thought I was being considerate by renting an office apartment so we could get on with formulating our policy?" "Well…this isn't just any office apartment. I mean, haven't you looked around you at all?!" She remarked, brown almond eyes sweeping past the sumptuous space in a quick assesive glance. "This place must cost a fortune!" She continued. "Three hundred dollars per hour, to be exact." He interjected, and her lips pursed in surprise. "That's even higher than I'd expected!" She said, her voice coming in a near whisper. "We could've just stayed behind at Cole Corp like you always do. Why did you do something so unnecessary?" Just then, there was a brief knock on the door. Katie's eyes flew up to meet Nicholas Smith's, surprise clearly written in them."Come
Katherine Cooper nearly jolted as she felt his warm electrifying touch on her cold skin. Blushing furiously, her startled eyes flew up to meet Nicholas Smith's. Wait, what was he…?"There's a spider on your shoulder." He murmured. His tone sounded too serious for him to be bluffing, so Katherine took it all in, hook, line and sinker. Kate jerked in fear, twisting her head to the side for a confirmation before she let out a shriek of terror. Ugh, she loathed spiders! But then, coincidentally, her eyes caught sight of the amusement gleaming in those obsidian mists and she stilled. ''You weren't being serious, were you?" He smirked. "Nope. But it was fun to watch you fret over something as silly as that." Sighing, Kate rolled her eyes before cupping her face in both hands. ''Headache?" His cool voice tore her focus from trying to calm the throbbing at her temples. She nodded, lifting her head to look at him. "How did you…" ''I can tell from the tension in your neck and shoulders
Katherine Cooper closed her laptop for the second time and sighed. Nick looked up immediately, slightly distracted. "Something wrong?" He quizzed, obsidian eyes searching her weary face for answers. Katie shook her head, long chocolate waves swishing from side to side."I'm sorry. I just…'' She trailed off, and then let out another sigh. "We've been working on this for almost a week now, and still we are yet to have any positive results. I mean, if it were possible for us to formulate a policy with over fifty percent success rate, by now, shouldn't we have done it already?"Nicholas Smith remained silent. "At least the ones you've happened to come up with are way better." She continued. "You know what? Yesterday, I started wondering how it could be possible that we haven't hit the jackpot yet, what exactly we could be missing out on..." her voice trailed off somewhere along. " I mean, could it be me? Is there something I'm missing, or something I'm doing wrong? I just wish I'd-"
From where she approached, Katie could see Nick's tall frame leaning against the body of his Rolls Royce. A million and one thoughts ran through her curious mind as she came closer, wondering why on earth Nicholas Smith was parked in front of her home at this time of the day. As soon as she was within range, he threw her something. Taken off guard, the only reason she had caught it was because she had fast reflexes, plus she'd used both her hands. They were the keys to his car.Katie was about to ask what was going on, when he spoke. "There are some places I need to get to today, and my chauffeur called in sick." He said. Katherine was bewildered. Was this bugger actually suggesting that she work as his chauffeur on her birthday, today of all days?! Never! Katie wanted to yell at him. To give him a slap right in the face, and pull his hair out from the roots. But she couldn't find the strength within herself to do such. "Hey, Nick, now's not a very good time." She found herself a
