Logan

The news reached me before breakfast.

I was standing in the kitchen of my penthouse, waiting for the coffee machine to finish, when my phone lit up with three messages from Derek, two from my coach, and a headline from one of the sports accounts I followed.

CHASE RYDER SUSPENDED FOR ONE GAME AFTER HALLWAY ALTERCATION.

For several seconds, I simply stared.

Then I smiled.

One game.

A heavy fine.

A disciplinary warning.

It was not enough to destroy him, but it was something.

Logan I learned Olivia had been arrested from a television in the police interview room. The screen was mounted high on the wall, muted but impossible to ignore. A news anchor stood beside footage of Olivia being pushed toward a police vehicle while cameras flashed around her. The same clip replayed repeatedly. Olivia twisting against the officers. Her face wet with tears. Her mouth open as she screamed toward a dark security vehicle parked across the street. The caption beneath the footage read: WOMAN ARRESTED INSIDE ALLIE HARPER’S APARTMENT AFTER DISTURBING LIVESTREAM I watched the words move across the screen. The investigator sitting opposite me closed the folder in front of him. “Mr. Carter.” I looked away from the television. Detective Brooks sat beside another investigator from the digital crimes department. Derek and my lawyer occupied the other side of the table. No one looked comfortable. I had already answered questions for nea

Chase Allie called during the second practice period. My phone was inside the equipment room because Coach had banned devices from the bench after Ryan answered a sponsor message during training last month. I would not have known she called if one of the team assistants had not appeared near the rink with a look that immediately told me something was wrong. He waited until the whistle blew. “Chase.” I skated toward the boards. “What?” “You have an emergency call.” My body became alert before he said her name. “Allie?” He nodded. I stepped off the ice without asking Coach. “Ryder,” Coach called. “We are not finished.” I removed my gloves as I walked. “This is security-related.” That was enough to stop him for several seconds. The assistant handed me my phone. Three missed calls. Allie. Nadia. Then Allie again. I called her immediately. She answered before the first ring finished. “Chase.” The fear in her voic

Allie “She is.” Mason’s whisper stayed between us for one suspended second. The café continued around us as though nothing had changed. Cups touched saucers. A child laughed near the counter. The machine behind the bar released a burst of steam. Security moved closer. Mia stood beside me, her attention fixed on Mason. I could barely breathe. “Who?” I asked. Mason’s eyes moved toward the entrance again. He looked terrified. Not nervous about being questioned. Terrified of being seen speaking to me. “Olivia,” he whispered. The name meant nothing for half a second. Then the memory struck. A bedroom door opening. A woman beneath Logan’s sheets. Dark hair falling across her bare shoulder as she turned toward the sound. My birthday livestream capturing the moment before any of us could hide. “Olivia Hart,” Mason said. The woman from Logan’s bed. The woman who had become part of my humiliation before I even knew her name.

Allie Mason’s final message remained on my screen. If you want to know who really took those photographs, come alone. Nobody in the security office spoke for several seconds. Chase stood beside me, his body completely still. Nadia read the message twice before asking me not to touch anything else. “It is an attempt to isolate you,” Chase said. “Probably,” Nadia replied. “Not probably.” Her expression remained calm. “We do not know his intention yet.” “He asked her to come alone.” “Yes.” “That is enough.” I looked toward Chase. His anger had returned, but it was different from the kind he showed during the argument with Missy. This was colder. Focused entirely on the possibility of danger. Nadia moved the phone onto the desk and photographed the conversation. “Do you know whether Mason usually communicates this way?” she asked me. “No.” “Has he ever messaged you privately?” “Not since Logan and I separated.” “What did he

Chase Logan called before sunrise. I had been awake for nearly an hour, sitting in the security office with Nadia while we reviewed the enhanced reflection from the photograph. The image was still incomplete. One eye. Part of a cheek. The outline of a hand holding a phone. The technical team believed they could improve it, but every adjustment created new distortion. We had a possible face without enough detail to identify anyone confidently. Allie was still asleep upstairs. At least, I hoped she was. She had barely slept after seeing the photographs. When I checked the hallway before coming downstairs, the light beneath her door had been off. My phone vibrated against the desk. Logan Carter. I stared at the name. Nadia noticed. “Answer it.” “He may only be calling to create another problem.” “He may also know who had access to the files.” That was the only reason I accepted. “What?” Logan remained silent for a second. Then said, “Someone

Logan The police called me at seven fourteen in the morning. I knew the exact time because I had been staring at my phone, deciding whether sending Missy another message would violate the promise I made in the park. I had not contacted her since she walked away. Not because I did not want to. Because she had asked me not to. The restraint felt unnatural. Then an unfamiliar number appeared on the screen, and for one foolish second, I thought it might be her calling from another phone. It was not. “Mr. Carter?” “Yes.” “This is Detective Lena Brooks. I am contacting you regarding an active harassment investigation involving Allie Harper.” My body became still. “What happened?” There was a brief pause. “Are you aware of threatening messages and photographs recently sent to Ms. Harper?” “No.” The answer came automatically. Then the photograph Chase had mentioned during our call returned to me. The building. The anonymous acc
