Chapter 109

“I WISH YOU WOULD STOP RUNNING AWAY FROM ME ROHO!” he calls after me “GUESS YOU’RE GONNA HAVE TO LEARN TO SPRINT THEN SIRE!!” I respond as I continue on laughing.

A hand snakes around my waist and hoists me like a sack of potatoes, I look up and it’s him “you were saying dear?” “what the?” “language” he stops running and moves me from under his arm to holding me out like Rafiki and Simba and stares at me, I fold my hands clearly not amused and he bites his lip to prevent himself from laughing or smiling “so not funny! Put me down” “it’s a little funny!” “put me down, I’ll stomp on your toes” “say please, and what makes you think it’s okay to speak to your King like that little lady?”

I am flabbergasted “I am not little! Please put me down before you make people see us like this, the last thing I need for people to think I earn favours from you or something” he obliges and put me down, still pouting with my arms folded glaring up at him, this time he covers his mouth with his hand and tries to stifle his laugh with a cough.

“And to answer your question, well the latter part of it, I’m not sure quite honestly why I speak to you like I would everyone else but better question, why do you allow it?”

He gives me a look then walks away “who knows” I make my own way back to the castle, I meet Joao and Beau chatting with some other trainees on the front lawn, they branch off when they scent me approaching “is everything okay?” “yeah everything’s fine, just needed to get some information from me is all, but after all that I’m hungry again”

Beau laughs “only you Red, only you, let’s go see if there’s anything left to eat in the dining hall”

Obviously that would not be the case because time had gone so far already, I sneak a peek into the kitchen and the nice lady was there again “what can I do for you this time?” “uhm I’m wondering if I can make a quick snack for my friends and me” she studies me then sighs “go ahead but I do expect you to keep this to yourself, I don’t want others invading my kitchen!”

“Yes ma’am understood” “good, carry on then” “yay” I move around quickly deciding on some Baked Potatoes with creamy Mushroom and Bacon inside as well as some steak, I whip up a quick cream Garlic sauce to smother it with and wait for it to finish as I clean up after myself.

“You really seem to enjoy being in the kitchen then huh” “yes I do, it helps to calm my mind when there’s too much going on upstairs” “do you bake?” “yes” “what’s your specialty?” “depends on what, if it’s treats then Banana Bread and Cinnamon Rolls, if it’s food then it’s Lasagna”

“Which shift are you on with training?” “night” “come back tomorrow around this time, we’d do some baking then yeah?” “yeah? awesome okay I’ll be here” I dish out food for myself and the guys, I offer her as well and there’s a few potatoes and steak remaining “uhm, if you don’t mind, can you pass this on to the King for me?” “the King? He eats from his private chef” “trust me, just tell him it’s from Red and he’d eat it, don’t give it to someone else to give him, I’m trusting you, okay?”

She takes the plate obviously very sceptical but nods and makes her way out the kitchen, I put a covering over her food and leave the kitchen as well.

We all sneak into Beau’s room as it’s the closest and sit on the floor digging into the food “you know Red”, Beau says with a mouthful “you should open a restaurant” “meh too much pressure, I’m content feeding just you guys” “good answer”

*knock knock knock* “Come in!” I just got back to my office and sat down, feeling slightly exhausted, the smell of food wafts onto the office and Daisy is holding a tray “I’m sorry to bother you my King but I was asked to bring you this” “you know I only eat from my chef Daisy, please take it back” “Red made it” my eyes widen “she did?!” Daisy jumps “sorry, didn’t mean to startle you, she made this?”

“Yes my King, she made it and asked me to bring you some, shall I still take it back?”

“Of course not! Sorry didn’t mean to shout, please bring it here” I move my documents and she sets the tray down and was about to leave “thank you Daisy and in future, anything she makes, please bring some of it to me, even if she doesn’t think of me, save me some” “yes my King” she bows and leaves closing the door softly behind her.
