MICHELLE’S POV.

I tried calling the number back but the call never went through. It was like the number never existed.

“Pick up… please pick up,” I whispered as I stared at my phone.

Nothing.

My heart wouldn’t stop racing. My hands were cold. And I kept checking the door, the windows, every sound making me flinch. I didn’t sleep at all. I just sat on the bed, hugging my knees, waiting for morning.

The moment the sky started to lighten, I rushed out of the house.

I didn’t even wait for breakfast.

The hospital was quiet when I arrived — why wouldn't it be? It was just a few minutes past seven.

I ran through the hallway, my footsteps echoing loudly. Nurses stared at me as I flew past them. I didn’t stop. I only had one thing on my mind — My mother.

I pushed open the door to her room and rushed in. Immediately my jaw dropped. My mother was gone.

The sheets were neatly arranged. The machines were gone. The room looked like no one had used the place in a while.

My brows furrowed in cu

  • MARRIED TO MY EX FIANCE'S STEP BROTHER    Five minutes

MICHELLE’S POVTwo weeks. That was all it took for my life to shrink into something smaller, tighter, and unbearably loud. Two good long weeks since Kieran Castellan and I parted ways. Two weeks of sleepless nights, overdue notices, and constant complaining. I tied the apron around my waist and stared at my reflection in the restaurant’s narrow mirror. In order to make ends meet, I had to take a job and the only job I could find was a waitress job. I hated it but I had no choice. My debt—millions of it—loomed over me like a joke the universe refused to stop laughing at. I just had to repay it some way — even if I will use the rest of my life paying the unending debt. “Table seven,” my coworker called. “He’s been waiting.”I grabbed the notepad and forced a polite smile onto my face as I approached the table. The man sitting there looked out of place—tailored coat, expensive watch, the kind of posture that screamed money even when he said nothing.“What can I get you?” I asked, a

KIERAN’S POV. I walked away, leaving Michelle behind like a memory I didn't want to look back at. Like a bad memory that made me stronger but better left in the past. God, I wanted to kill her the moment I found out that she fell into my trap. I even gave her a second chance, which she failed again — woefully. And the Castellan's aren't popular for giving people second chances. Adrian had warned me, and now I knew he was right. Pushing her to the edge had only made things worse. But it wasn’t regret I felt. The only thing I regretted was trusting her.I walked over to my car. I started it, the engine’s roar matching the pounding of my heart. I pressed my foot to the accelerator, and we shot forward, the city streets blurring around me.“How could she?” I muttered under my breath, gripping the steering wheel. “All that I did… and she still betrayed me. After everything…”The speedometer climbed too fast, but my thoughts raced even faster. The only thing I was thinking about right no

MICHELLE’S POVI sat across from Kieran in the coffee shop, still unable to believe what had just unfolded before me. I couldn’t believe anything he had just said. I knew it had to be a joke. There is no way he would plan something as serious and wicked as this. He picked up his cup and took a slow sip, calm and collected, like we were just two coworkers meeting for a casual break.“You are joking?” I frowned, tears flowing down my cheeks. “Tell me everything you said was a joke.”His lips curled into a faint smile. There wasn't even any sign of remorse or shame on his face. Just that cold arrogant look. “You know well that it wasn’t a joke,” he replied calmly. “How?” I whispered. “How could you do this? How could you use my mother like that? Why would you do that?!” He sighed, clearly annoyed. “I told you, it was for a test which you failed woefully.”“A test?” I scoffed, unable to believe him. “You did all this for a test?” He leaned back in his chair. “I needed to know if I c

  • MARRIED TO MY EX FIANCE'S STEP BROTHER    A secret that took my soul.

MICHELLE’S POV. I stood in front of my mother’s hospital room, staring at the door like it was the only thing holding my life together. My hands were shaking. My head was hurting. My heart kept pounding like it was soon going to burst out of my chest. I felt completely hopeless. Inside that room was the only person I truly cared about. The only reason I was still alive. The only reason I had destroyed myself piece by piece.I took a deep breath, trying to reassure myself that I was okay, that I was ready to face that bastard alone. But the truth was — I wasn't ready. If anything, I regretted telling Kieran about anything. Why did I even do that? Kieran doesn't give a fuck about me. I'm sure if he was in my position, he would throw me under the rug without a second thought. So why should I be the one to act like a good soul when I know damn well that it never ends well for me?I pulled my phone out again and dialed Kieran’s number. No answer.I tried again. But it went straight

  • MARRIED TO MY EX FIANCE'S STEP BROTHER    When truth walked out the door.

MICHELLE’S POVThe room exploded the moment the words left my mouth.“What are you talking about?” Daniel asked sharply, standing up from his seat. His face was full of confusion and anger. “Michelle, this is not a joke. Do you even understand what you’re saying?”Everyone was staring at me like I had grown two heads. Some looked shocked. Others looked angry like they wanted to kill me. And some looked disappointed. I swallowed hard and forced myself to speak.“I’m serious,” I said. “I wiped the project. I did it.”Daniel shook his head. “Why would you do that? Who told you to do it?”I turned to Kieran. His eyes were fixed on me, dark and unreadable. His silence made me shake the more. “Kieran,” I said softly. “I didn’t mean to do it. Paul kidnaped my mother,” I revealed. Gasps filled the room as they exchanged glances in horror. “He took her,” I continued, my voice shaking. “He threatened to kill her if I didn’t do what he wanted. I had no choice. My hands were tied.”Daniel fro

  • MARRIED TO MY EX FIANCE'S STEP BROTHER    My final choice.

MICHELLE’S POVI didn’t need to be told twice. Paul didn’t have to threaten me again or explain himself in another cruel way. The truth was already clear. I had no power here. None at all. The only thing I still had was my love for my mother, and Paul knew it.So I made my choice. I chose to do the right thing — leave this house immediately. I wiped my tears, stood up from the floor, and grabbed my bag. My body felt empty as I packed the few clothes I came with. I had to leave the house. Kieran was not as powerful as I thought he was, Paul had the power so technically, Damien still had power over me. I packed my clothes and hid the bag under the bed. And prayed Kieran wouldn't notice a thing. But luckily, Kieran didn't come back home. He texted that night that he was going to spend the night at the office. Poor Kieran must still be looking for a way to get back the project that I destroyed. The next day, even before the sun could kiss the sky, I was already out of the house. Paul
