The ride from the airport was unbearably silent. More silent than I had anticipated. We had barely said two words to each other, it was like we were complete strangers to one another.

Max hadn’t said a word since we left. His jaw was tense, his grip on the steering wheel so tight I worried it might snap under his hands. I didn’t know what to say either. My heart still raced from seeing Tim and Amina, especially Amina, with her smug, venomous smile as if she’d won something.

But I was also thinking about her face, the way it changed the moment Max called me his wife. She looked like she was going to vomit.

But that moment had been short-lived, I thought we were going to talk about it, about my sister who started all this, who orchestrated all this, and my ex fiance Tim, but it was like we didn't just ran into them. Like he didn't just call me his wife. Of course Max didn't really care.

I wanted to ask Max what he was thinking, what we were now, what we were going to be now that

  • MARRIED TO THE MAFIA   Chapter 146

Valerie The waiting room was far too quiet, or maybe it was because I was alone and there were couples all around me, happy. I looked at my phone for the tenth time but there was no message from him or missed calls. Why did I even think he would show up? Every tick of the clock on the wall echoed in my head like a reminder of how alone I really was. I shifted in the stiff leather chair, rubbing slow circles over the swell of my belly. The receptionist had already called me in once, but I asked for a few more minutes.Just in case he came. But it was becoming clear he was not really coming. He hadn’t said a word to me since our tense moment in the library four days ago. Not a text. Not a knock on my door. Not even one of those soft looks he used to give me when he thought I wasn’t paying attention. He had also been avoiding me, he was gone before I woke up and always came home late when I was asleep. At first it bothered me, but I chose to give him his space. I blinked hard and s

  • MARRIED TO THE MAFIA   Chapter 145

LilaI hardly registered the gasp that rippled through the hall, or the sharp intake of breath as Alpha Ryan’s lips met mine. My mind was a riot of sensation his kiss was firm, commanding, and electric, as if he’d pressed a live wire to my skin. For one timeless moment, the world dissolved: no Brandon, no Ashley, no pack politics just the fierce heat of his mouth on mine. Then came the shout, cutting through the hush like a blade.“She is not your mate!”I jerked back, breath coming in ragged gasps, my cheeks burning recognizing the voice, Across the glittering floor, Brandon stood, face twisted in fury and humiliation. His voice echoed off the marble pillars. Even Ashley turned, eyes narrowed in anger.Alpha Ryan released me as if my skin had scorched him. He stepped back, his gaze ruthless and unblinking as it shifted to Brandon.“How do you know that?” Ryan demanded, voice low but threaded with steel.I swallowed hard. Everything slowed, the edges of reality blurring as Brandon’s c

  • MARRIED TO THE MAFIA   Chapter 144

Lila“What do you want from me?” I snapped, my voice a little more high pitched than I meant it to be. My heart was still racing from the kiss, the eyes, the silence that had filled the room like smoke.Ryan didn’t look bothered. He just ran a hand through his dark hair and turned toward me, his eyes unreadable.“I want you to be my mate Gina,” he said simply. There was no arrogance in his tone only the absolute certainty of a man used to commanding armies."But I am not your mate and you know that." i said confused. "I know, I'm sorry maybe I should have framed my words better. I want you to join my pack as my pretend mate for a period of atleast one year and after that you will be greatly compensated and will be free to do whatever you want, including leaving my pack."I swallowed, the weight of his words settling in my chest like a stone. All the stories I’d heard, the warnings I’d seen scrawled on parchment and bark none of them had prepared me for this moment of raw truth." But

LucaI didn’t even realize I was growling until the entire café went silent.Valerie had stormed out, tears in her eyes and fire in her voice, and I didn’t stop her, not because I didn’t want to, but because I needed to deal with the man who’d made her cry in the first place.Richard Blake. Her father. The man who threw her out like she was nothing.“You’ll stay away from her,” I said, stepping forward until we were nearly chest to chest. “Do you hear me?”Richard had the audacity to lift his chin. “You don’t tell me what to do with my daughter.”“She stopped being your daughter the moment you threw her into the streets pregnant and alone,” I snapped, my voice low and dangerous. “She is mine now. And if I ever catch you sniffing around her again, I’ll make sure you regret it.”His jaw ticked. “Are you threatening me, Mr. Black?”I leaned in, my voice dropping to a deadly whisper. “No. I’m promising you.”Without another word, I turned and stormed out of the café.She couldn’t have gon
