Samuel crouched on the floor, picking up the glass shards one by one into a small container. His breathing was quiet, as if he were holding back the lingering dizziness from the previous night. Ellya stood beside him, her face pale, her eyes flicking toward Samuel from time to time.

The silence was broken by a loud knock on the door.

Knock… knock… knock…

“Who’s visiting this early?” Samuel murmured, still busy with the glass fragments.

Ellya flinched, hurriedly set down the last shard she’d been holding, and ran to the door.

As soon as the door opened, Aric stepped in. His face looked tense, his breath short as if he had rushed over. Without saying much, Aric pulled Ellya into an embrace.

“Ellya! Where have you been? I’ve been calling since yesterday and your phone was off, messages unanswered. I was really worried,” Aric said, his voice full of anxiety.

Ellya froze for a moment in his arms. She glanced toward the living room where Samuel stood watching with a stiff expression.
