ZANDER CALIX’S POV

-

I grabbed my phone from the center table and looked at the nuisance caller and who, in their right mind, would call this late.

“What on earth, Wallace?!” I said in annoyance as I answered his call. If I could just punch him over the phone, I would have. I don’t care if his wedding is tomorrow. He ruined my chance to ask Nathalie.

“Chill. Why do I feel like I’m bothering you?”

“Yes.”

“Did I bother you and Nathalie?” there was a teasing and meaningful tone to his question.

“Yes and not like you think.”

  • MY EX-HUSBAND BETRAYED ME, BILLIONAIRE SAVED ME   CHAPTER 00245

NATHALIE’S POV 🍃-In the end, I figured I’d take Brianna back to Sir Calix first.Beyond the dread of being imprisoned by them – that is what’s correct.Surely everyone is worried about Brianna’s situation and condition. Moreover, they have no update about what is happening and who is with her. I’ll try to call Sir Calix on his phone number once Brianna and I are on the bus.“Let’s go, baby,” I coaxed. As soon as we took one step, we stopped when someone came out of the funeral home and called me.“Excuse me, miss.”I looked at the male staff. He approached me and handed me a small paper folded in two.“The name of the cemetery where our two cremated fire victims were interred is written on that document. Also, the name you referenced belongs to one of our cremated deceased.”“What?! Why did you cremate the body without the family’s consent?” I almost screamed.I am the only one who should decide what to do with my mom’s body.“Someone came here who -- I’m sorry, I can’t say any mo

NATHALIE’S POV 🍃-I didn’t ask any more questions about what I heard and, went to the hospital was said to have taken the fire victim. As we got out of the taxi, holding Brianna’s hand, we entered the hospital and went straight to the nurse’s station.“Excuse me, miss. sorry to bother you.” I tried to get their attention when I saw they were busy, eyes fixed on the screen. The female nurse got to her feet. “Oh, I’m so sorry, ma’am! I was busy with something else and didn’t see you come in. Is there anything I can help you with?”“Were the fire victims brought here? Where are they, please?”“Yes. But, they were brought to the funeral home a while ago.”“W-wait, what?” I stammered out. “A funeral home? How come that’s where they ended up?”“The three were already de*d when they were brought here. After their bodies were autopsied, they were taken to the funeral home. Do you have any relatives there?”“Possible...” I said tremblingly. “May I know the address and name of the funeral ho

NATHALIE’S POV 🍃-I gently wiped Brianna’s cheek.“If you only knew how much I miss you, baby.”She wrote on the tablet. After a few seconds she turned it to me, ‘I miss you too.’“I miss you so much, baby.” I kiss her forehead. “I’ll call Grandma Margaret first. Then...” I paused in my speech.I didn’t know how to explain that I had to return her to he father or her grandparents.“Then, let’s eat a chicken sandwich.”She nodded in happy agreement.I stood up and went to the table. My hand froze in the air as I was about to pick up my phone, halted by the sound of voices talking behind the curtain by the adjacent hospital bed.“The fire early yesterday morning did massive damage. A lot of houses burned down.”My chest tightened. That fire... My waiting... Wasn’t all of that a bad dream?“Oh right, the mother and daughter who d*ed are really tragic.” “The biggest fire was in their house.”“It’s a pity the three people there d*ed in the fire.”“Look, the fire started in their house.”

  • MY EX-HUSBAND BETRAYED ME, BILLIONAIRE SAVED ME   CHAPTER 00242

NATHALIE’S POV 🍃-The people I had in mind who helped me are Sir Calix and Harrison, all the more so because Brianna is by my side.Yet, I’m holding out more hope that Sir Calix is the one who helped me. He’s waiting outside of the emergency room so I can share about our child with him.He may be furious, and after everything that’s gone down these past few days but, this time, come what may – I won’t keep anything about our unborn child from him. I will not repeat the mistake I made before.“Baby, did daddy Calix bring us here?” I asked again when a minute had passed and she still hadn’t answered the question. She shook her head, followed by eyes turning red.“Baby, is there a problem?” I asked softly. She didn’t answer, but went to the small table on the side of my hospital bed.My bag and her backpack were on it.A quiet sigh escaped me mentally the moment I knew it was her backpack. That was the bag she carried away the time she tried to run away before. Brianna returned to t

NATHALIE’S POV 🍃-“I’m pregnant...” I found myself saying, barely aware of speaking. “Am I three weeks pregnant already?”I felt both my eyes sting. For a moment I felt tears fall down my cheeks.“I don’t know. I didn’t notice.”I was seized by fear upon recalling what the doctor had stated.“Doc, what’s the baby’s condition in my womb? It’s still alive, isn’t it?” I asked desperately, clinging to hope. “I didn’t lost... I didn’t have a miscarriage?”The doctor smiled at me. “No, ma’am. What happened to you wasn’t a miscarriage.”“But you just said I bled?”“Yes, and that’s what I wanted to explain before you cut me off.”“Sorry, doc. I didn’t mean it. I was so surprised, I had no clue, and I never saw this pregnancy coming.”“I understand, ma’am. Before I explain, please sit down and the nurse will adjust your dextrose.”I sat up on the bed. Brianna moved to my right side without letting go of my hand. Then the nurse came to my left side. She checked my hand to make sure that the n

NATHALIE’S POV 🍃-“I want to see my mother. Take me to her.” I kept pleading.I felt so light. My whole being was so tired, that I couldn’t feel my body anymore.“I’m begging you all, save my mom.” My words came in stutters, tears blurring not just my eyes but my voice too.“If you still can’t get in our place and haven’t found a safe way through -- let the fire swallow me whole. Let me be with my mom when I take my last breath.”The two firefighters just looked at me, as if they had no intention of following my plea -- to go to my mother.“What a tragedy for whoever’s in that house -- the fire’s still quite large.”I turned to the two women who were talking. They caught my attention from what they were talking about. From how they’re describing the house in question, there’s no doubt in my mind it’s our house they’re referring to.“Is there anyone inside the house?”“Yes. There are still people in that house. As far as I know, the one who lives there is the one who's there.”“Isn’t
