Magnus' POV

I was about to check on Vanna on the second floor, ready to enter the room when I heard them talking inside about something. That’s when I realized everything.

Aunt Catriona spilled the truth.

"He helped me to stand again, he offered me everything. I loved him, more than I loved your father, but because of the organizations he was involved with and the illegal companies, my life was in danger. At that time, I remembered the truth within myself; I asked for his approval to search for my children, and he agreed. I left, even though it hurt me inside. I saw you, and I was disappointed when I found out you were living with Maximo's mortal enemy. I knew you would be caught in the crossfire when Magnus' uncle sought revenge on the Shaw family because you were there."

I heard some of what Aunt Catriona said. I was behind the door at that moment, listening with suppressed tears. I never thought that was what really happened.
