Lira's POV

“Marcus,” I said, my voice sharper than I intended. “You'll stay here, watch him.”

He furrowed his brows and blinked as if disoriented. “What?”

“Watch Damien,” I said, pointing towards Damien. “He needs a guard, someone he trusts.”

“My lady, if I had a choice, I would stay here. But you know the law. In the Alpha's stead, I take command. That means every decision and every defence…”

“He's not dead,” I said, my voice cutting through the tent.

Everyone went stiff. It seemed like I was crossing a line by the way I spoke to him. “He's not dead,” I said again, quieter this time. “He's injured so perform your duty as his guard. Protect him like you swore to. Leave the rest to me.”

For a moment, Marcus was silent. His gaze flicked from Damien and back to me. “Fine,” he finally said, with a low growl of frustration. “ But be careful, whatever that thing is, it's dangerous.”

“I intend to find out,” I said, already moving.

The path to the holding cell was lined with guards, some wit

  • Marked by my father's enemy alpha    The ashes of diplomacy

Lira's POV The last thing I remembered was looking through a slit on the carriage, watching as Damien killed Tarlock's sons. My vision faded afterwards. The rough shaking of the carriage forced me awake. It was dark and I couldn't see anything. We travelled for what seemed like two days. I hadn't eaten since my capture. I looked through the small hole in the carriage. That was when I knew we had finally arrived at the Tarlock lands. Tarlock stood in the open courtyard, his fur cloak swaying in rhythm with the wind. His wolves were gathered with him. They watched as we came to a halt.“They're dead Alpha,” the general said before the rider could dismount from the carriage. The courtyard went still.“Who?” Tarlock's tone was calm, his head tilting slightly as if he hadn't heard right.Raman, Tarlock's last son, swallowed hard. “Andrew and… Micah, they were slain by the Blackthorne Alpha at the border.”The words landed heavily. At first, Tarlock didn't speak. Then his jaw clenched an

  • Marked by my father's enemy alpha    A message of war

Damien's POV I stood facing the Tarlock brothers. I thought it was all four when I saw them from a distance. When I finally met them at the border, I realised the others who followed were just guards. They were all draped in their father's colours. They wouldn't be able to hide their presence in the east if they tried.Kneeling between us was Ronin, at least that's who they thought he was. His head was bowed to the ground and the spell cast by Lira was having its expected effect. “Brother,” Andrew, the eldest brother, stepped forward. “What have they done to you?”There was no response and this aroused their suspicion. I stood still, reaching into my leather jacket to grip my sword.Andrew cleared his throat and forced a smile. “Our father sends his regards. He wishes for peace, says he is organising his own part of the agreement.”My gaze remained fixed on him. “And he sends his sons to negotiate peace, instead of coming himself?”The brothers exchanged looks. “Our father thought i

  • Marked by my father's enemy alpha    War benefits nobody

Lira's POVThe wind from the coast filled Damien's quarters. I sat on the side table tracing my fingers over the old scroll Alan handed me some days ago. I tried to focus on learning the spell, but when Damien summoned Marcus and Alura, their conversation immediately drew my attention.“Have the letters been answered?” Damien asked. Marcus shook his head. “Nothing yet Alpha. Three days and nothing from the Tarlock pack.”Damien frowned, turning towards them fully. “Keep your eyes sharp. The message I sent is not one that any Alpha would take lightly.”Alura shifted, glancing briefly towards me before nodding. “We'll double our scouts and ensure the message wasn't intercepted. With that, they both walked away.Perfecting the spell had taken my complete focus for the past days. I barely spoke with anyone. I was too tired from the constant practice. Damien couldn't get away from me if he tried. He only left intermittently to tend to his own duties. He took a few steps towards the table,

  • Marked by my father's enemy alpha    The Borderless pack

Tarlock’s POVThe sun shone brightly over the Tarlock Valley, its rays reflecting on the slate roofs and wheat fields that stretched for miles. From the balcony of my manor, I watched the dust rise in the distance, the envoy returning from the Blackthorne lands. A small smile formed at the corner of my mouth.Peaceful mornings had a way of fooling people. If only everyone could read my mind and see how worried I was about my son.My mate, Amira stood a few paces behind me. The loud clinking sound her gold bracelets made as she tapped her fingers wasn't helping my state of mind. She couldn't hide the irritation on her face. She blamed me for Ronin's disappearance.“They're back on time,” I said to her. *Perhaps, they brought good news from Blackthorne.”She looked away, stepping back further away from me. “Or perhaps they don't respect you enough to give answers to your messengers. You should have marched to Blackthorne with them instead, but no, you decided to remain a coward protecte

  • Marked by my father's enemy alpha    The oathbreaker

Marcus's POVOutside, the first rays of sunlight split through the trees, glinting off our blades. Duty before all else. That was the oath we carried. On a normal day, we wake before dawn to take over from the night shift guards. But it all felt different. Alpha Damien was attacked again by Salcan. Although there wasn't any physical damage, that told us how weak our defences had become. It was my duty to prevent it from happening again. I tried to focus on getting ready but couldn't get the thought of the last night out of my head.“Everything started getting worse the moment she arrived,” I muttered, not loud enough for the entire barracks but loud enough for Aragon to hear.He was so focused on strapping leather to his knees. My statement made him freeze mid-movement.“Be careful saying that,” he warned, his eyes flicking towards the others at the corner. “You've forgotten who she is now? She's Alpha Damien's marked mate. You don't want anyone overhearing.”I met his gaze, unfazed

  • Marked by my father's enemy alpha    The aftermath

Writer's POV “Salcan has tried this kind of thing before,” Marcus said in a low tone. “He never gets it right. That's why he keeps trying over and over again. He won't stop until one of us is dead.”Damien sat still listening to him speak. The rays of sunlight seeped into the tent. The scent of herbs cooked by healers still lingered in the air from last night.Alura was beside Marcus, both of them watching Damien. She reached a hand to help him as he tried to stand. Damien shook his head sharply.“I don't need your help,” he muttered. His muscles were very weak but he ignored it.“I can stand,” he said, supporting himself with his bedstand.Damien was stubborn. He didn't like accepting physical help from others. He always wanted to seem strong no matter what.He struggled to keep his spine straight as he walked towards the tent. You could even say he loved the pain. He believed that it built strength.Outside the tent, the Blackthorne wolves were reorganising after the chaos of the n
