18. One Second Kiss

Charlotte’s POV

Since he already locked the front door, I had no choice but to run upstairs and look for a way out. Fear and terror were making my heart race at the same time. I shut the door and pushed the bed into it so Miguel couldn't open it quickly. I opened the window and looked down. I've always wanted to jump out of this window, but I was afraid of heights and never had the courage to do it.

Miguel kept kicking the door over and over, and I could hear his old, raspy voice say, "Open the door, Charlotte. This is going to be painless! You won't feel anything...."

I'm not so naive that I'd let a drunken, raving madman inside this room. I chewed my lower lip nervously, trying to hide that I was afraid and thinking that the only way to get away from him was to run away and fight back.
