Chapter 58

ALEXIS' POV

I hear the cheers from the crowd as the match starts and the ball gets tossed around the field, every player's legs moving expertly towards the ball while my own leg does not feel the ball even for once. It is as if I am in an entirely different planet, completely exposed and vulnerable, my legs feeling as frozen as my brain.

"Yo, Alex!" Lewis yells at me as he passes a ball smoothly my way but before I can unfreeze my legs and reach for the ball, an opponent comes behind me and gets control of the ball.

At the end of the first half, none of the teams scored a goal and it ends in zero to nil. As we take our fifteen minutes half-time break, coach Ryder scold us, visibly angry and disappointed at our performance on the field. I think his anger should be directed at me alone. Everyone else had done their best back there except me. I was completely numb and did nothing like I was a rookey in the game.
