Chapter 5

Amelia’s POV

I woke up with a light knock at my door.

I know it’s mom and it looks like she’s bringing food with her.

Again.

Toast with scrambled egg and a glass of orange juice. My favorite.

The door opened and I slowly got up and leaned my back to the headboard of my bed.

“Good morning sweetheart. How are you feeling?”

She put the tray of food at the bedside table and touched my forehead.

My eyes are focus with the food she brought as it is exactly what I guess earlier.

Weird.

“Uhm.. I’m feeling better now mom, you don’t have to bring food to me every morning.” I look at mom hoping she will believe me.

“We’ll I figure you might still be sick since you didn’t come down for breakfast earlier. I’m going to run an errand and I don’t want to leave without making sure you eat. So here it is.” Motioning to the food she brought.

It’s been two weeks since my birthday and I had been feeling sick since.

The headache is gone but my body is really not what it is.

I’ve been feeling very hot lately even after a cold shower and I’ve also had a frequent body pain especially at night.

It had been worst last week and I’m glad I can manage the discomfort now.

I already went to the hospital to get a check up but everything came out normal.

I don’t want to cause anymore trouble with my parents so I decided to pretend everything is okay.

And I think I’m getting better anyway so no need to make this a big deal.

“Are you sure you’re going to move out today? I mean no need to rush El, we haven’t celebrated your graduation yet.

“Mom, I am way beyond my schedule in moving out already. It’s been days since I have planned to go but you keep on insisting to extend it. I really want to be independent now.” I tried  to convince her with  pleading eyes.

She sighs.

“Okay, but I’ll ask you once more. Are you really feeling better?”

“I’m perfectly fine. In fact I have plans with my girls right now so I better get ready before I get late.” I said enthusiastically as I get up the bed.

Mom got up too and walked to the door. She stopped and pointed at the breakfast she prepared for me.

“Be sure to eat your food before you go. And don’t forget to wash your plates since you are fine now.”

She winked at me before closing the door.

As if on que, my phone beeps and saw a chat from Melody, one of my best friend, that they are already on their way to the mall.

I look at the time indicated on my phone and silently cursed myself for waking up late.

It’s already 10 o’clock and I better get ready quick to avoid being yelled at.

I quickly took a shower, put on a denim jean and a plain white shirt and dash out of the room.

I took the food with me and shove it inside my mouth.

I can wash the plate when I get back. I giggled on the thought.

I hurriedly park my car and went inside the mall.

Melody and Jasmine are waiting for me in our favorite coffee shop so I went directly there.

“What took you so long?” Melody asks as I sit on the unoccupied space adjacent to her.

“Traffic.”  Replied as I wave a waiter so I can order.

“Yeah right.” Jasmine playfully winked at me while sipping her coffee.

Shut up. I mouthed to her which makes us giggle silently.

As I said, Melody and Jasmine are my two closes and trusted friend. We were inseparable since primary school and college will be the very first time we will be apart from each other.

Melody is the most serious one in our group. She always sticks to schedule and hates wasting time. Therefore, she always gives me lecture about how precious her time is and for me to be considerate and be early for once.

Which I tried but unfortunately failed always.

Jasmin on the other hand is the happy go lucky one. She smiles a lot and always brings positive vibes to us.

And I am the introvert one who hates parties and wants to just stay at home all day and read books in the comfort of my room.

Us, being friends is a total mystery since we have different personalities and hobbies. But we have one thing in common though and this enables us to meet each other half-way, and that is our love for coffee.

“One cappuccino please.”  I said to the waiter who jot down my order and hurriedly walk away.

“So, you’re moving out today?” Melody asked and I sense she already calmed down but her emotions were already clouded with sadness.

I know this is a sensitive topic for us because for the first time, we will be enrolling to a different school from a different country.

Melody will be pursuing her love for fashion so her family will be sending her to a fashion school in Paris while Jasmin will be enrolling in a business school in England.

I on the other hand will still be in this same old country though will be moving an hour drive from my small town.

I can’t afford to enroll in a fancy school so I will settle on a university located at the next city where I lived in. That’s okay with me since they have a great BS Psychology program and that’s what I’m after for.

“Yes. I am actually leaving this afternoon.”

There was a moment of silence between the three of us.

“We’ll I’m also leaving the day after tomorrow.” Jasmine said sadly.

“In that case I’ll be telling mom to book me a ticket to Paris then. This place doesn’t feel the same without you two.”

A sad smile crossed our face.

The waiter came with my order and I instantly sip it to refrain myself from crying.

I’m really gonna be missing this two.

After we chat about our future plans and the school we got in, we went for a quick shopping and have a girl time knowing that we won’t be doing this again anytime soon.

We bid goodbye at around 2 o’clock since I am still going to finish packing and of course spend the remaining hours with my family before leaving for college.
