Kidnapped?

Chapter Six

Leila's POV

Waking up was a longer process than usual. I felt as if I had been hit brutally on my head. Wait that's what happened to me. With great difficulty, I watched the area I was in. It didn't have the familiarity of the pack I grew up in. I was knocked out in the forest, that only means two things. Either I was captured by a werewolf hunter or kidnapped by a rogue. I didn't know which was worse and I wasn't ready to know. With the realization of my current situation, I sat up abruptly from where I had laid since goddess knows when. I made to tip toe out of the room when a voice stopped me.

"You shouldn't move an inch yet you just woke up". That was when I turned to see the old woman seated at the other end of the bed, drinking goddess knows what. She must be a witch. I was sure no one was in the room when I woke up. That was worse than being captured by a werewolf who had gone wild or a useless werewolf hunter. She could turn me into her puppet with just a raise of her sneaky hand.

"You should sit back besides your memory seemed incomplete. I suggest you sit down or you might go down with severe pain". She is indeed a witch. My memory immediately flowed back to me with full force. The planning, the full moon, watching my friend's shift, not being able to shift, watching my boyfriend move to the next female without any iota of pity for me, running away from everyone, being hit on the head, lastly, seeing a creature I couldn't identify before everything went blank. I held my head tight as it all came back to me. I didn't know what to feel again. Dejected? Rejected? Pain? Abandoned? They all just filled my head.

"I see your memories are back". She said again still sipping whatever from the aged cup. Never have I ever seen an aged cup. I thought non living things don't age. But then again, she was a witch. Witches were mysterious heartless creature. It could be a person who had done something to her and she had tried her voodoo magic on. How much longer do I have before her nails tear my flesh off?

"I would like to know where I am". I said with straight face. If she smelt my fear, she could kill me faster and feed on my flesh. I needed to put up a brave front and buy more time for myself, before I think of how to escape this witch's dungeon. She could be a black witch for all I know. That's even way worse. They were considered as feral witch. They were a lot worse than a hundred of normal witches.

"I sense your fear and confusion, which you should be. Well, you are in the land of the midnight sun my dear". For the first time, I saw her smile a little. One that did not reach her eyes. I panicked. Land of the midnight sun? That was way worse than what I had been imagining all this while. It was even better if she were a witch. Land of the midnight sun was dominated by the Lycans. Lycans were creatures I was told never to get involve with. They are just like us, werewolves but they are the worst set of werewolves. They were beasts! Here I am in their territory. The moon goddess should have told me through a prophecy long ago that she hated me to the core. There was no way I was going to survive. Lycans and werewolves had been in enemity since like creation time. Every werewolf knew the story. The Lycans are always ready to chop werewolves off in their beast form and here I was, in the same room with one of them.

"Your face looks pale which it should be. I know what you are thinking but if I wanted to kill you, I wouldn't had taken care of you for seven days. I am not crazy". Here is a crazy person trying to assure me that she was not crazy. Isn't that crazy?

" Wait, you mean I had been out for seven days?". I asked counting with my finger to number seven. She nodded in confirmation.

"Listen, thank you for your hospitality but I have to go now. My family must be looking for me all over the pack". My hands immediately, flew across my mouth when I realized what I had done, I had given away my identity to this Lycan. Now, she will have more reason to want to taste my bitter heart. But she didn't seem fazed, she continued drinking her stuff.

"I already knew that from the moment I saw you. I would have left you there but I can't. I was a mother, I can't abandon another woman's child. I was once a mother so I know what it means to loose a child." Is that pity I smell? I thought Lycans were heartless. Screw that. She had a child? Do witches give birth?

"Whatever your werewolf people must have told you about us was only their own painful side of the war. We also suffered lost too". She said closing her eyes only to continue with her drink. What was the content of that aged cup?

"Thank you for keeping me safe but I have to go now. I can't survive here for another day and you know it. Even if you won't feed on me, your fellow creatures will feast on me. I have to go before anyone finds me out please ". I tried to reason with her.

" You talk as though we live on the flesh of others." I raised my brows. Was I wrong?

"I understand your plight child, but I'm afraid you can't leave here for now. Somehow, the Lycan King had found out that someone had stepped into this land. As we speak now, the border is on tight security and there's an ongoing house to house search of the intruder. We both will be found out anyways and may likely meet our demise. You can't run away now. Your death will be much quicker and more painful if you are caught". Goosebumps filled my body as I listened to her in rapt attention. How can someone talk about death so casually. Like it meant nothing to her.

"W-what are we going to do now". I asked as my heart beat frantically without no rhythm. I can't believe her life is also in danger because of me.

"Nothing, just wait here for them. I don't fear death. I have been lonely for the better part of my life. It is you who I fear for, you have a bright future. Though other can't see it, I see a booming flower when I look at you. One which must be protected at all times till it opens. Then you will find your purpose". She said looking at me for the first time since I woke up. Her eyes were grey and firm.

"You should sit down. If your destiny is what I see, then you won't be harmed". Now she is talking as if she is a seer. There was absolutely no way out. I can't run neither can I stay, either way, we would both be killed. There was no way I was going to run alone and leave her here. She was too old to even lift a leg. I wondered how she had carried me here. She used some help perhaps.

"I should fix you something to eat. You haven't tasted water for the past seven days. You need food to help your body function properly". Now she is talking about food? Who thinks about food when they are about to be killed?

"No I'm not hungry". The thought of food made me feel worse.

"I didn't ask if you are hungry. I said you need the food to function properly. Starving yourself isn't going to stop the inevitable from happening. Instead, you need strength to face the inevitable".

With that, she stood from where she had sat down, at the edge of the bed I woke from, for the past forty minutes. I followed her immediately. Her steps were too quick for a woman of her age. We walked silently to the to the kitchen. It was surprisingly neat and clean. I thought old women liked things scattered. Perhaps, she had a child or a grand child even, that kept everywhere neat.

"There, you should rest over there while I prepare the food. You shouldn't get to work immediately, you just woke up". She said pointing a stool for me. I gladly accepted her offer. I didn't know how to cook. I sat down as I watched her chop the onions and vegetables. She was cooking spaghetti. I wondered how it would taste. I watched her cook effectively. She smiled each time she brought the spoon to her lips for a taste. That was the only time I saw her smile heartily. After about twenty minutes of my stomach rumbling in anticipation, she brought the food down and dished it.

"Here". She passed mine to me. The aroma of the food was already satisfying. How could she cook so well. For a while, I forgot that I was walking with a death warrant.

"It's delicious". I said as I munched it.

"I enjoyed cooking for my husband and my child". She said dreamily before I could ask her where her family was, I heard the door immediately burst open. The plate shattered as it kissed the concrete floor.

"They are here". Was the only thing she said. Suddenly, the food in my mouth went sour. With heavy difficulty, I swallowed it. Here it was again I had truly met my end this time.

"Ms. Davis, I hear that you harbour a stranger, an intruder in your house. Bring him or her out". The man said. His voice vibrated with authority, I almost went down on my knees. He was the Lycan King. I was truly going to die in the hands of the Lycan King. His eyes wandererd to where I was. His eyes squinted a bit as he watched me like a predator ready to feast on my soul.

A las I had met my end in the most brutal way. He was going to eat me up alive. His nose flared. Before I knew it, two of them had carried me and dumped me in front of him. I could feel his power radiating from this distance.

"It is my duty to kill without mercy those who intrude and those who harbor the intruders". He said as he unsheathed his sword. His eyes bore no emotions. I couldn't beg, I was too scared to even talk. He raised his sword up high and I closed my eyes in tears ready to meet my maker. This was it, I was going to die in the hands of the heartless Lycan King. The one I was warned of.

Goodbye cruel world. I inhaled deeply as the sharp edge of the sword penetrated my skin. My blood was rolling down my chain mixed with my tears. What a brutal way to die.
