It was the year 2001. Winter's sun has set, and the season of spring is becoming to flourish; the numerous flowers were in bloom in the fields. The blue sky went out for miles and happiness flowed through the territory of the Silver Moon Pack.

But no one expressed their happiness for the season more than Kaia Woods; the first daughter and child of Luna Bellatrix and Alpha Aldric. Her young 5-year-old self snuck out of the pack house with her younger sister, Saige. Their giggles echoed through the meadow as they ran through grass almost as tall as they were. They chased each other and laughed to their hearts' content as they played but they did not dare get too close to the border separating their territory from the next.

After the Great War between the nations, a truce was made where everyone could live respectfully amongst others. Everyone ranging from Werewolf, Vampire, Witch, Fae, Demon, Deity and anything you could ever imagine has agreed to the truce in hopes of a better future. Next to the Silver Moon territory, was a town where humans lived in peace and the number one rule was to never harm a human and to never expose ourselves to them.

A joyful shriek sounded through the air when Saige tackled her older sister to the ground. They shared a roar of laughter with each other as they rolled in the tall grass unaware of their surroundings; blinded by the joy of being innocent children.

Their fit of laughter stopped abruptly when Kaia was flipped into a pair of strong legs. Saige peered up before her sister had a chance to realize what she hit. Her brown eyes opened wide and she grabbed a tight hold of her sister. She gasped in fear and hid her face in her sister's small chest.

"What's wrong Saige? We just hit a tree" Kaia started to explain before she looked at the "tree" in question. For it wasn't a tree, it was a boy, a boy around her age. A boy with jet black hair that was cut low on the sides, but he had waves still at the top of his head. His light grey eyes stared down at the girls curiously. He tilted his head to the side and crossed his small arms across his chest.

"Y-you're not a tree" Kaia said nervously. The smell of him bringing a chill down her spine which answered her question of why her sister was so scared. Vampire. But he also smelled of werewolf?

The little boy grinned in amusement. "Obviously. I'm a boy and you two are girls" he stated matter-of-factly. He outstretched a hand to Kaia in a gesture to help her up. Kaia looked at the boy's hand and contemplated whether to give him hers. "Kaia. Wampire" Saige whimpered into her chest fearfully. Kaia frowned and continued looking at the boy's hand.

The smile on his face did not falter even after Saige's remark. "Trust me, if I wanted to hurt you I would've by now" the boy said. As Kaia looked at his hand again, her mother's words echoed in her mind.

Be kind to everyone and they will be kind in return. Do not darken your soul with hate because someone is different from you.

Kaia took a deep breath and placed her hand in the boy's and after giving her sister a reassuring look that they will be ok, she was helped up from her sister's grasp. The boy then helped Saige to her feet and she quickly moved herself behind her sister. The boy kept his look of amusement on his face.

"My name is Aziel. What's yours?" the boy asked them.

"I'm Kaia and this is my sister Saige" Kaia told him.

"Very nice to meet you" he replied.

Kaia, with her sister gripping her dress behind her, circled the boy curiously. He seemed normal enough. He looked well fed and his clothes have been freshly cleaned and fit him well. Kaia eyed his feet and were curious to know why he was barefoot.

"Does your mommy not buy you shoes?" she asked the boy. He nodded and wiggled his toes. "Yes. I have many shoes but I like to run without them" he explained.

"Why do you live with humans?" she asked him.

"My mother is the last of her coven from the Great War. We live in secret with them" he explained. Kaia eyed him up and down for a few moments before flashing a smile. She found no suspicious flaw to the boy and strangely, she felt a pull from him that made her want to know more about him.

"Would you like to play with us?" she asked him. Aziel beamed a smile and opened his mouth to reply but a woman's voice stopped him.

"AZIEL!" the scent of her was stronger than the boy’s and similar to each other. The girls grew fearful and ran back over the border line onto their pack's territory but stood to watch a beautiful, slim woman make her appearance next to her son. Her jet-black hair was pin straight and flowed down her back. Her eyes matched her son's but her pale skin contrasted against the medium complexion of his skin. The woman looked at the two girls carefully before taking steps toward them and stopping right at the borderline to meet them.

She kneeled to their level and Kaia, as the eldest, stood her ground to protect her sister. The woman laughed and offered her hand to her. Kaia, like she did for Aziel, simply stared at her hand. "Don't worry pretty girl. I won't hurt you" the woman told her.

Kaia peeked over the woman's shoulder to see Aziel give her a thumbs up, showing her she is safe. Kaia nodded and gave the woman her hand. The woman held it gently and looked into space for a moment before giving her attention back to Kaia. "My name is Ophelia. I can sense that you are frightened. Do not be. My son and I will not hurt you or your sister" she told her gently.

"KAIA! SAIGE!"

Saige ran off towards her mother who made her way through the path of trees to enter the meadow. "Mommy!" Saige exclaimed and jumped into her mother's arms. Bellatrix picked up her daughter and quickly ran to her eldest when she saw who kneeled before her. Ophelia released Kaia's hand and went to stand by her son.

Bellatrix eyed the woman before her as she took hold of Kaia's hand. "I apologize if my position seemed inappropriate. Our children were about to play and I wanted to ensure my son's safety" Ophelia told Isabella.

Bellatrix's attention was focused on the small boy. She observed every feature of his in detail before sending a warm smile to Ophelia. "Your son is very handsome. No need to apologize. Your son can play with my daughters anytime" Bellatrix replied.

Ophelia looked shocked at her response and blinked her eyes rapidly before ruffling her son's hair. "Okay Aziel. Play nicely" Ophelia told him. Aziel jumped with joy and began to sprint towards his new friends when a loud, booming voice shook the ground beneath them.

"BELLATRIX! GET MY CHILDREN AWAY FROM HIM!"

Aziel froze in place and Ophelia ran to her son frantically and scooped him into her arms protectively. Kaia looked behind her to see her father stomping over to the three of them, rage burning in his eyes. "Aldric please the children were just trying to play" Bellatrix attempted to calm her mate but Aldric overlooked her and quickly lifted Kaia in his arms.

He glared at the vampire woman before him who pushed her son's face into the crook of her neck. "My children will not associate themselves with the likes of blood suckers" Aldric barked. Ophelia gasped softly to herself and mirrored a glare to Aldric.

"My love don't use such language around the children. We must be kind to every-"

"Fuck that kumbaya kindness crap. We're leaving" he quickly turned her mate around and pushed her back towards the pack house. Aziel turned his head to look at Kaia, both children looked at each other confused at Aldric's actions.

Aldric took a pause to glare at the boy which only made him snuggle into his mother's chest. Kaia took this time to wave at him. "Goodbye Aziel" she called to him. He waved back, fear still clear on his face, "Goodbye Kaia" he called back.

Aldric growled loudly before taking his leave. Kaia looked over her father's shoulder to see Ophelia sigh sadly and taking her leave as well. She looked into Aziel's sad, grey eyes.

All they wanted to do was play.

That’s what is wrong with our world today! If people aren’t exactly like us, we can’t associate with them! So sad!
