Chapter Eighteen

Emma

My whole body freezes with what she says. I can't believe it.

Boris did fight with my father, but I don't think he would actually kill him. He told me so himself.

This can't be happening now that we are getting along so well. Something is wrong.

"We don't know if he did it, Mom. There's no way to know."

"Who else could do it?"

"Dad had a lot of enemies. It could have been someone who..." she holds up her hand, telling me to stop talking.

"Boris was one of those enemies. He came here and threatened your father, because of you."

"It wasn't my fault, I swear. He knew that my father hit me, but I didn't say anything."

Liana looks at me for a while. Her gaze shows sadness and pain. I looked not much different, with tears streaming down my face.

"I can't stay here, I can't" she stumbles and almost goes to the floor. But then she gets up and leaves the office.

I look at the bloody floor. My shoes were dirty, and so were my feet.
