It was two days before graduation, you decided to talk to your mom in the kitchen, you grab a bottle of water and sit opposite her at the kitchen bar table.

"How are you feeling?" You asked.

"I'm feeling a little better, I thought it would be nice to have Nate over for dinner." She replied hastily.

"Why?" You almost spit your water everywhere.

"You were best friends and you're about to go off to college, so I wanted you to have someone to have your back." She explained.

"But Sam will go mental." You remarked.

"Do you think your father would want you to hold a grudge?" She asked sincerely.

"No but Sam does." You replied quickly.

"Let me handle your brother." She smiled.

"Okay." You return a smile to her.

"Why don't you go next door, ask Nate to join us." She spoke softly.

"Sure." You head over to Nate's, Sam was already there, you could hear yelling from his garden. You head around back to see what's going on.

"What's going on?" You asked startled.

Sam had his claws out, Nate's clothes were ripped, both boys eyes were piercing each other, they hear your voice and scramble away from each other.

"What are you doing here?" Sam growled.

"Mom sent me to ask Nate if he would like to join us for dinner." You replied.

"That's not happening." Sam spat ferociously.

"Too bad I didn't ask for your opinion." You sassed Sam.

"Tell your mom I'll be there." Nate smiled, in his ripped clothes.

"Over my dead body." Sam snapped.

You rub your temple, you take a deep breath and let out a sigh.

"I'm sick of your childish behaviour!" You yelled.

"Excuse me!" Sam snapped back.

"Grow up, for goodness sake, mom invited Nate, just accept that." You replied coldly.

"You want me to accept the son of the man that murdered our dad into our home?!" Sam hissed.

"For mom's sake, yes." Your tone emotionless.

"Mom's losing her mind and it shows." Sam's words sear your heart.

You feel anger simmering in your gut, you lunge at Sam, swiping his face.

"What the hell" Sam jumped back.

"Don't ever talk about mom like that." You growled at him.

"I'm sorry." Sam shrinks underneath your gaze.

"Now you will accept Nate coming for dinner, go home and clean up." You gesture towards your house.

"Fine." Sam storms off out of Nate's garden.

Sam storms off home, in a huff, grumbling to himself. You follow him. When you arrive home you argue with Sam in the Livingroom, when he finished cleaning himself up.

"Can you for once be kind." You yelled.

"What about dad?" Sam pierces into you.

"Hating Nate won't bring him back, feuding with every other werewolf is just going to give us more enemies." You explained.

"So, we don't need a pack." Sam spoke abruptly.

"Have you ever for a second thought about what I want?" You yelled again.

"I don't care what you want, you're my responsibility." Sam dismissed your comment.

"And what a good role model you have been!" You snarled.

"What's that meant to mean?" Sam looks a mixture of hurt and stunned you'd say that to him.

"You're constantly fighting with people. I want to know people my age going through the same thing I am, not to be turned away by every pack in the area because you're too damn head strong." You explained.

"Fine, don't expect me to protect you." Sam hissed.

Before you can reply, your mom comes in.

"I hate when you fight, please just stop, I want Nate and Olivia to get on, they are going to the same college." Your mom scolds Sam.

Sam stormed off to his room, after a while Nate turns up. He enters your Livingroom, beaming a smile at you.

"Hi." Nate hugged you.

"Hello." You accept and embrace him taking in his musky scent.

"Nate, it's good to see you, it's been too long you and Olivia used to be inseparable." Your mom smiled sweetly at him.

"We grew up mom." You laughed.

"Yeah, thanks for having me, Mrs Yates." Nate smiled before giving your mom a hug.

"you're welcome." Your mom smiled at Nate.

"Would I be able to have a word quickly?" Nate asked her.

"Sure." She nodded and they headed to the kitchen.

You edge towards the kitchen door, pressing yourself up against the wall so you aren't spotted.

"I wanted to apologise for everything that's happened, I know it won't bring back your husband but I hope you can at least heal." Nate whispered.

"That's sweet of you but you have no need to apologise, I was never angry at you." She explained.

"But I assumed, what with Sam being so hostile towards me." Nate replied.

"No, as a none werewolf it's easier to forgive, Sam holds a grudge because his leader was taken away and his father." Your mother explained softly.

"I could have stopped him." Nate's voice breaks a little with sadness.

"No you couldn't, you were fourteen, he'd have turned on you and Olivia would have been so upset if anything happened to you." She chokes up.

"Olivia hates me." Nate's voice sounds even sadder at this reply.

"Sam's convinced her she hates you but I reckon if you give her time and be there if she needs someone she will come round." Your mom replied.

"I understand why she hates me." Nate explained.

"Perhaps you should talk to her about things." She replied again.

"I'll try but she probably won't speak to me about it." Nate sighed.

"Baby steps, I have to get on with dinner, but you go, make yourself at home." Your mom laughed.

"Thanks Mrs Y." You hear Nate heading for the door.

You head for your room, it's probably best you hang in here and keep out of Sam's way. You hear a knock on your door.

"Come in." You call out. Nate strolls in.

"I talked to your mom, she thinks we should talk stuff out." Nate smiles.

"Sure, what's wrong?" You ask.

"I've been thinking about things recently." Nate begins.

"What things?" You ask curiously.

"What happened to your dad, our constant fighting, me and Sam." Nate explained.

"You don't have to talk about it." You smile reassuring him.

"I just wanted to tell you that I feel guilty for not stopping my dad." Nate hastily spoke.

"But then he'd have hurt you." You replied, you could feel the tears building up.

"So you wouldn't be upset about your dad?" Nate asked.

"No, but I'd be sad about you, we may hate each other right now but we were best friends once." You choke up a little.

"I don't hate you, I have to act like I do for my dad, he already doesn't know I'm here tonight." Nate explained.

You hear rustling by the door. 'Sam's eavesdropping.'

"Come in Sam!" You call out to him. Sam walks in embarrassed.

"Don't believe a word he says." Sam snarled.

"Why because you don't?" You glare at your brother.

"I know you've manipulated Olivia into hating me." Nate interjected.

"What?" You gasp looking between the boys for some sort of answer.

"It's true, the last thing I remember you saying to me before you shut me out was "I promise no matter what I'll always be your best friend." Nate explained.

"I forgot." You reply sadly.

"But I didn't I always remembered. Sam you weren't the only one that was hurting that night." Nate explained, sadness lined his voice.

"Save it, just eat dinner and then leave." Sam hisses.

Sam walks out your room. You turn to Nate.

"Sorry he's such a jerk." You remark.

"It's fine, lets just go grab dinner, come on." Nate grabs your hand, You head downstairs into the dining room.

You enter the room followed by Nate, the atmosphere is tense, you sit next to Nate at the table. Sam and Tara walk in, sitting opposite you, Tara gives you an apologetic look.

"How long have you been here?" You're shocked that your best friend didn't tell you that she was here.

"Most of the afternoon." She squeaks, embarrassed.

"You didn't come in and say hi." You sigh.

"I wanted to, but decided it was probably best to stay out of the way, it was getting a little messy." Tara explained.

"Sorry." You look down at the table.

"Let's all have a nice and peaceful dinner." Your mother smiles trying to diffuse the tension.

The whole dinner Sam stares at Nate, his eye glowing the whole time, your mom tries to diffuse the situation.

"Are you all looking forward to graduation?" She asks.

"Yeah, Sam already graduated though." You joke.

"He did, but he went back for extra classes to make up for the ones he missed so he's graduating with you." Your mom laughs.

"Oh, yeah." You reply, slightly disappointed that he will be at graduation.

"Have you got any plans for your birthday?" Tara hastily changes the subject.

"I hadn't thought much about it." You explain.

"Leave it to me, we can plan a double date or something." Tara smiles.

"A double date requires me to be dating someone." You jokingly reply.

"I'm sure we can find you a date." Tara laughs, you spot her throw a glance at Nate.

"As long as it isn't Nate." Sam snaps.

"Get over yourself, for goodness sake, move on!" Tara tries shutting Sam up.

"We will talk about this later, you're seriously gonna take his side!" Sam snaps at Tara.

"I'm on Olivia's side and if her side is with Nate then so be it." Tara throws you a supportive smile.

"Fine." Sam throws his cutlery down, you flinch and watch Sam storm off.

"I'll talk to him, sorry that he ruined dinner." Tara sighs.

"We were done anyway." You smile trying to reassure her that it's okay.

"Maybe we all need to talk, meet me at Sam's spot, in 10." Tara heads off to speak to Sam.

Tara disappears, you head out with Nate.

"Thanks for having me over for dinner." Nate smiles.

"Sure, you should come to Sam's spot with me." You smile hoping he will agree.

"Sure, I'll drive you." Nate grins, You head to Nate's truck and climb in the passenger seat.

After a silent drive you arrive at Sam's spot, Tara is already waiting for you.

"I'm glad you could both make it." Tara leads you inside the cave, Sam is sitting there by a fire, looking angry.

"Why is he here." Sam asks while continuing to stare into the fire.

"To talk, we all need to." Tara explained.

Sam doesn't say anything, You and Nate sit next to the fire.

"So what we just play happy families?" Sam snaps.

"I'm not asking you to do that, please just hear Nate out." You try to reason with Sam.

"Fine." Sam waits for Nate to speak.

"I'm sorry man, I wanted to stop him, I didn't know what to do, if not your dad it would have been me." Nate explains.

"It should have been you." Sam yells.

"SAM!" You scream almost ready to lunge at him again.

"I wouldn't have cared." Sam hissed.

"That's because you only care about yourself." You snap, You storm out of the cave in tears.

"Yates, wait up." Nate chases after you.

You don't stop walking, you head for the forest, the place you met Mac and his pack.

"We meet again." The werewolf from last time stands in front of you.

"I need to talk to Mac." You sobbed.

"Sure, follow me." You follow the werewolf through the forest to a cabin set back in the woods, nothing like the creepy movies, it was rather homely.

It had a small bird house outside and some kids toys, You hear someone following you, but you think nothing of it.

"Hello again, changed your mind about my offer?" Mac beams.

"No, I'm here to find out what happened when my dad died." Your tone serious.

You notice Mac look over your shoulder.

"So nice of you to join us, nephew." He smiles.

"Nate!" You gasp.

"You dare hurt her!" Nate yells, his eyes aglow.

"Relax, I'm not your father, your girlfriend is safe." Mac laughs.

"Oh, erm, we aren't together." You reply.

"Oh, sorry I just remember how inseparable you both were as kids." Mac smiles.

"Things changed, I wanted to talk about that night my dad died." You remark again.

"Sure, come sit." Mac pats a rock he's sitting on just outside his cabin.

"Your dad was a good man, he wanted to protect you, my brother he wanted you and Nate to join the pack and your dad refused, he said you were just a little girl." Mac explained.

"I've only just learnt about my abilities." You explain.

"Yes well this led to Nate's dad and your dad to argue, things got out of hand and well you know the rest." Mac has a look of sadness in his eyes.

A tear pricks the corner of your eye, you take a deep breath to supress the emotions.

"Thankyou for clarifying, Hopefully I can get some closure, I should be going now." As you turn to leave you see a dark figure with piercing eyes in the distance.

"Sam?" Sam emerges from the brush.

"You followed me?!" You snap at him.

"Home, now!" Sam demands.

Before you can respond Sam grabs your arm and drags you home, when you arrive home, you storm into your room. Sam follows behind you.

"What are you doing with them?" Sam demands an answer.

"Finding out what really happened to dad." You explain.

"I already told you, stay away from them and Nate." Sam snarls.

"I hate Nate! Is that what you want to hear?" You hiss.

"Whatever, get graduation out of the way then no more contact with him." Sam acts like he's your dad.

"My birthday, what about that?" You ask.

"Tara already sorted a date, with my approval." Sam smirks.

'So someone dull.' Sam walks out of your room leaving you to think about everything that happened tonight.
