Pain

You wake up in a bed, but it's not your own bed. You try to pull yourself up into a seated position.

"Where am I?" You ask hazy.

"You were attacked. You're in my room." Nate explained.

"Why am I in your room?" You ask, confused.

"I'd be a crappy boyfriend if I left you." His eyes fill with sadness.

"How did you find me?" You ask again.

"Madison came looking for you after the scan. That's when she found you laying on the shower room floor." Nates voice cracking at the thought of you hurting.

"How long have I been put?" You need to know.

"Just a few hours, how are you feeling?" Nate asks.

"Sore." You reply sadly.

"Do you know who did it?" He asks

"I know Taylor was involved." You explain.

"I'm gonna kill Zack." Nate fills with anger.

"Ouch." You mutter.

"Stay with me until you're better." Nate looks at you with sadness in his eyes.

"What about Ella?" You asked, worried about leaving her on her own.

"She can come here to see you." Nate explained.

"Okay." You mutter.

"I have to run an errand, but I'll be back before you know it, I promise, call me if you need me." He kisses your head and heads out.

"Thanks, you didn't need to help me." You reply.

"I did, but I really gotta run." He places a kiss on your head again and moves a little of your hair, checking your injuries.

"I'll kill him!" Nate darts out of the room.

You text Ella and Madison, Madison replies, but Ella doesn't. An hour passes, and Nate returns with his gym bag.

"It's took you an hour to get your gym stuff?" You ask.

"No, i brought you some presents." He smiles at you.

"Oh, thank you." You blush a little.

"Some medication for the pain too." He passes you some pain killers.

"Thank you again." You take a couple of the pain killers.

"I was gonna save this for our six month anniversary, but I thought you could use something to make you smile." Nate pulls a box out of his gym bag.

He hands you a necklace with the letter W on for Winters, his last name, you choke back tears.

"That's really sweet, thankyou." You smile, you feel tears prick the corner of your eyes.

"I also spoke to all your professors. We have all your work for the next week, by then you should be ready to be back at class." Nate explains.

"I need to tell you something Taylor said to me before the attack." Your voice is a whisper.

"Sure, I'm listening." Nate smiles, waiting for you to speak.

"Taylor blackmailed me to split up with you, or she would attack me." You explain sadly.

"I'll kill her." Nates anger grows.

"No, you can't do that. She has to think we have split up." You reply, worried.

"I don't want to break up." Nate replies sadly.

"It's was just a trial anyway. We knew this was going to happen." You reply, it hurts, but you don't have much choice.

"I know, but I just thought we'd have a little more time together." Nate's voice filled with sadness.

"We can still hang out." You explain trying to reassure him.

"Sure." Nate remarks sad.

You sit around in bed while Nate goes to his classes. He's always texting telling you he misses you. A few weeks passed, and you were finally able to go back to normal. Well, it's sort of normal. You and Nate still hadn't defined the relationship.

"You ready for the trip today?" He asked.

"What trip?" You look at him shocked.

"The football team and the cheer team have a weekend trip planned." Nate explains.

"No one on the squad told me." You explain dumbfounded.

"You have been missing for a few weeks, maybe that's why." Nate tries to reassure you.

"I hope that's the case." The thought of you being left out hurt a little bit.

"Come on. It will be fun." Nate takes your hand enthusiastically.

"Sure." You follow Nate.

You head out into the quad, and you're about to follow the rest of the cheer team, but Nate pulls you to the side.

"We are taking my truck." Nate grins.

You climb into his truck, he throws your bag in your back seat, and turns to look at you when he climbs into the drivers seat. He edges closer to you, pressing a kiss on your lips. He pulls away and focuses on driving.

'I guess we aren't pretending anymore.'

You sit in blissful silence for the duration of the ride. You pull up outside of the lodge. You spot Taylor making a beeline for Nate, you duck in your seat, avoiding her.

"Nate, good to see you." She chirps.

"Have you seen Olivia? I was meant to meet her here?" Nate asks.

"Did she not tell you?" Taylors voice breaks a little.

"Tell me what?" Nate asks, confused.

"She quit the team. So i didn't invite her." Taylor explains.

"Really? When I saw her this morning, she was excited to come on the trip." Nate remarks.

"Well, look around. The freak isn't here." Taylor smirks.

"Don't talk about her like that!" Nate growls.

"You have feelings for her, don't you?" Taylor gasps.

"No, we are just friends." Nate dismisses.

"Okay. Then you won't mind if I do this." Taylor leans in and kisses Nate, Nate shoves her backwards. Zack comes striding over.

"Why did you push her?" Zack snaps.

You pop up from hiding and climb out of Nates truck.

"Taylor kissed Nate!" You remark.

"You're lying!" Zack snaps.

"No, she kisses Nate, that's why he shoved her away." You explain.

"You expect me to believe you when you spread a rumour that Taylor attacked you?" Zacks words pierce you.

"She did!" You snap.

"Tay wouldn't do that." Zack defends her.

"Fine, believe what you want." You reply defeated.

"She's telling the truth, Taylor tried to kiss me." Nate interjects.

"One of my girls wasn't enough for you?" Zack hisses.

"Woah, uncalled for." Nate remarks back.

Zack doesn't reply. He grabs Taylor, and they walk off into the lodge. You head inside with Nate.

"What they said was it true?" You ask sadly.

"We will talk about it later." Nate replies.

"Okay." You sigh.

You're assigned your room and head up with Nate.

"Can we talk now, please?" You ask sadly.

"Sure." Nate replies with sadness in his voices.

Nate sits on the bed and pulls you to him. He sits you next to him on the bed.

"We talked about my reputation, I've not had a proper girlfriend, not really, a few flings, that's it." He explains.

"And when I was mentioned, about your feelings for me, you said no, was that true?" You ask.

"No, i was scared." Nate replied a little embarrassed.

"You don't have to be scared. I'll always be here." You reply.

"I know." Nate smiles at you.

"This just became real, didn't it." You blush.

"Yeah, if that's what you want." Nate replies.

"Mhmmm." You smile.

"Great, well ,we better change. Our first activity starts in an hour." You spend the next hour rushing to get changed. You head out with the rest of the group.

You meet a bizarre woman she's teaching you team building.

"Team building? Really?" You laugh.

"It's mandatory, babe. we can sneak off if you want." Nate whisperd to you.

"No, we should stay, Taylor would rat on us anyway."  You remark.

"Very true." Nate laughs.

You stop for a break, Nate hands you a water bottle. You spot Taylor strutting over.

"Who invited you?" She hisses.

Before you can respond, you see a familiar face appear behind Taylor.

"I did. She's captain ,after all." Madison grins.

"She hasn't been here for weeks." Taylor snaps.

"Because you attacked her." Madison remarks.

"Do you have proof?" Taylor smirks.

"I paid one of the computer geeks to pull the hallway tapes, and at the time Olivia was attacked you can be seen leaving the bathroom." Madison announced.

"I-urm..." Taylor stutters.

"So continue with the with hunt and blackmail and I'll hand the tapes to the Dean." Madison smirks.

"You wouldn't dare!" Taylor snaps.

"I'm hormonal, pregnant, and pissed off. Try me." Madison remarks.

"Ugh..." Taylor storms off.

"Thanks." You turn to Madison.

"Where's your uniform?" Madison asks.

"I didn't know about the trip until this morning." You explain.

"But you're captain." She remarks, shocked.

"I've not been treated like one." You reply sadly.

"Leave it with me, I'll deal with it." Madison dissappears, leaving you to return to Nate.

"Hey, what did Madison want?" Nate asks.

"She was dealing with Taylor for me." You explain.

"It's nice. I'm not the only one who has your back. Have you spoken to Ella since the attack?" Nate asks.

"She's not called or texted me." You explain.

"Oh ,I'm sorry." Nate replies sadly.

"It's okay." You remark.

Your phone rings, and Sam's name appears on the screen, you answer.

Phone conversation:

"What?" You snap.

"I know you don't want to speak to me, but mom is well, i can't tell you over the phone." Sam explains.

"Tell me, I'm on a trip, so if I need to leave, i need to know." You snap again.

"Just come to the hospital. The doctor reckons today is her last day." Sam explains.

"Okay, I'll head over." You hang up  and floods of tears flow from your eyes.

"What's wrong?" Nate asks ,panicked.

"We h-have t-to go, mom is d-dying." You sob.

"We knew that, what do you mean?" Nate gasps.

"The doctors have said today is her last day." You explain.

"Shit. I'm so sorry babe." Nate hugs you.

Before you can respond. Nate leads you to his truck. Nate climbs into his truck, he flings the bags on the back seat.

"What am I gonna do?" You sob again.

"I'll be there for you." Nate reassured you.

"Don't think like that." Nate replies.

You change in the car and finally arrive at the hospital.

"Mom, it's me Olivia." You stand beside her bed.

"I know and is that Nate?" She asks weakly.

"Yes, it is." You reply.

"And you're still together?" She asks.

"Mhmm." Your voice slightly cracking.

"Treasure him, your dad and I met in college." She smiles at you.

"I know mom." You smile back at her.

"Good i can go knowing you're happy." You have no reply, you just sob into her hand. Nate steps closer to you to comfort you.

Sam bursts in. "What's her doing here?"

"Sam please, he's dating Olivia, save it just for today." Your mom pleads.

"Yeah, sure." Sam replies sadly.

Sam looks at you, he wraps you in a hug. You stand there a little while, then you hear the dreaded noise.

"Mom?" You sob.

She doesn't respond.

"Mom?" Still no response.

Nate heads to grab a nurse leaving you and Sam still having a long hug, you sob into Sam's chest.

"Just us against the world." Sam sobs.

The nurse enters followed by Nate, you turn and look at him, Sam joins you.

"Has she?" Nate asks sadly.

"Yeah, she's gone man." Sam explains.

"Shit, look I'm sorry I know we don't see eye to eye." Nate replies.

"It's all good." Sam remarks.

Nate wraps you in a hug.

"Fist my dad now my mom, everyone i love leaves." You sob into Nates chest.

After a long few hours, your mom is sent into autopsy and you and Nate head to Campus.

"You sure you're don't want to go back to the trip?" Nate asks.

"No, I'm good." You reply sadly.

"I'll walk you to your dorm." Nate takes your hand.

"Will you stay with me? I don't want to be alone." You give him a sad look.

"Of course." Nate held your hand and rubbed your thumb.

You enter your dorm to see Ella and Kain chatting, Ella jumps when she sees you.

"Hey you feeling better?" She stares at you shocked.

"Not really." You remark.

"Maybe you should stay at Nate's longer." Ella replies.

"I'd have thought you would want your friend back." Nate replies angrily.

"Oh, right. No its cool." Ella laughs trying to brush off Nates response.

Nate leans in and whispers into your ear. "Something is off." You nod, you begin packing up your things.

"I'll see if I can swap rooms." You reply gloomy.

"Doubt it semester is almost over." Nate explains.

"Yeah." You sigh.

You and Nate finish up the packing and head to Beta, you flings your bags onto Nates bedroom floor, you climb onto the bed and close your eyes.
