Chapter 22

Aria Blake

~•~

“So your marriage is finally over?” Harper asked through the phone, a hint of sympathy in her voice.

I stared at the ceiling, my phone on my chest. “Yeah, I guess so,” I said with a sigh. “Since I left the house, he hasn’t reached out to me.”

“Really?”

I let out a breath. “Yes, and my mom isn’t making things any easier for me.”

Harper let out a chuckle. “You know how that woman can be sometimes, just ignore her.”

“I’m trying to, but it’s getting unbearable,” I m

Chapter 54Julian Cross ~•~ As Aria and I talked, I expected that she would at least have some sympathy and allow me to go with the kids. But as usual, she left me mid-conversation and walked out of my life. I didn’t follow her, I let her leave. All eyes were on me as I walked back to my car. I’d caused a scene at the school and I could tell that most of them were judging me. But that was the least of my concerns. I got back to my hotel in no time. The first thing I did was to call Cole. “Man, I need some advice,” I groaned as he answered the call. Cole let out a sharp breath. “On what?” I dragged a hand down my hair. “Custody… do you think I should take Aria to court and fight for custody of the kids?” “I knew it would get to this point,” Cole sighed. “What happened?” “She doesn’t want me to see the kids. She’s acting like I’m not their father or I don’t have any right over them.” “So what’s your plan? Do you want to bring them back to New York?” I nodded. “Yes. I can’t

Chapter 53Aria Blake ~•~ I rushed over to the kids’ school without even telling my boss that I was leaving. I couldn’t let Julian take my kids. Who knew what he was going to do after? Why was he so desperate to hang out with them even after I told him to be patient until the weekend? By the time I got there, he had already caused a scene in their school. I didn’t even spare him a glance, I held Owen and Isla like my life depended on them. My life actually did depend on them. Then I took them to the car and made sure they were safe before facing Julian. “What on earth is wrong with you?” I asked, my breathing uneven. “Why are you hellbent on pissing me off?” “I just wanted to spend some time with my kids. I wasn’t doing anything to piss you off,” he replied defensively. “You weren’t even meant to come here.” I shook my head in utter disbelief.“You really want to defend your actions right now?” I asked bitterly. “And you expected me to sit back while you take my kids to God

Chapter 52Aria Blake ~•~ “I don’t think you’ve been really focused on work,” my boss said as he folded his hands on top of his desk. I forced a smile onto my face. “I’m sorry.” “Sorry isn’t going to cut it. You’re the leader of your team and you can’t be caught slacking.” This wasn’t the first time he had called me to his office over the past few weeks. Ever since Julian had shown up in Texas, my life had been a total mess. Between work, the kids, Samuel, and Julian constantly trying to push my boundaries, I barely had enough energy to think straight.“You’ve made three mistakes on important files this week alone,” he continued. “That’s not like you.”I couldn’t even argue with him because he was right. I lowered my gaze. “I’m sorry, sir. It won’t happen again.” There was a beat of silence. Then he asked. “Are you going through something? Do you need some time off?” I shook my head. “No, that won’t be necessary, sir. I’ll be focused from now on and I won’t make any mistakes.

Chapter 51Aria Blake ~•~ Julian looked shocked when I accused him of sending my mom to convince me to take the kids back to New York because she wanted to see them. But I already knew that he wasn’t expecting me to find out about it and he was stunned because he had been caught. “Uhm… I…” Julian stuttered and couldn’t even come up with a coherent response. “Yeah, no need to deny it,” I cut in sharply. “You could have used a better approach. I would have even tried to believe it if it were your mom you sent to tell me that bullshit instead.” His face fell. “I wasn’t asking her to manipulate you… she was the one who came up with the idea.” I let out a humorless chuckle. “Of course, you’d deny it.” “Just forget about the conversation with your mom,” he continued, his voice hoarse. “When can I see the kids during the weekdays?” Was Julian just trying to stir up shit? The kids had school and I wasn’t looking to distract them by allowing them to go out during the weekday. Why

Chapter 50Julian Cross~•~ After spending about an hour at the mall, we were finally done shopping. The trolley was filled with different kinds of toys. Whatever the kids wanted, I asked them to throw it into the trolley. I knew that Aria was going to be upset when she saw them. But I didn’t mind. My main priority at the moment was to make the kids happy. Isla didn’t talk much. I could tell she didn’t like me that much. But Owen was finally warming up to me. Throughout our car ride to the mall, he kept telling me about things that had happened since he was a baby—the ones he could remember. As I listened to him, a part of me felt sad because I didn’t get to experience it with them, but I masked my emotions. I knew about them now and that was all that mattered. We got to the counter and I paid for the toys. One of the workers at the mall helped take the shopping bags to the car. When Aria saw that I was about to load everything in the trunk of my car, she stepped out of her

  • Mr Billionaire's Regret   49

Chapter 49Aria Blake ~•~ “We got divorced,” I forced out the words from my mouth. Isla wouldn’t stop asking questions if she didn’t get the answer she wanted. “He had no idea I was pregnant after we’d gotten divorced.” “So why didn’t you tell him about it later? Did he treat you badly?” Her question caught me off-guard. But I wasn’t entirely surprised. Isla had always been too perceptive for her age. I reached out and tucked a stray curl behind her ear. “You don’t have to always know the answer to certain things. We will probably talk about it when you’re old enough.” Julian breathed, his eyes mirroring his relief. “Thank you,” he mouthed to me. The kids hadn’t warmed up to Julian. I knew that there was a probability that things would get messy, and the fact that they didn’t like him would work to my own advantage. But at the same time, I didn’t want them to hate him. I mean, they shared the same DNA and he was actually their father. Julian might not have been the best hus
