~~Jay~~

My father’s head snapped toward him. “I didn’t mean~~”

“Oh, but you did.” Alex’s voice was calm, controlled, but there was steel under it. “Let me tell you something, sir… men who drop dead in their thirties or forties from ignoring their bodies? They’re not being men. They’re being stupid.”

The tension at the table coiled tighter.

Alex leaned forward slightly, his gaze locked on my father like a predator sizing up prey. “Your son is smart enough to know when something isn’t right. That’s not weakness it’s common sense. You should be proud he’s even willing to say it out loud.”

For a moment, no one spoke. Even Dahlia seemed frozen, her lips slightly parted.

Alex leaned back again, picking up his glass like nothing happened. “But maybe I’m just old-fashioned about valuing the people I care about alive.”

My father’s jaw worked, but no words came out. My mother, bless her, reached over to pat his hand. “Hubby, calm down. I’m sure Jay has a good reason. Let’s not ruin the evening.

~~Dahlia~~As the chatter drifted on, my friends giggling over wedding gowns and honeymoon destinations, I sat there smiling, nodding in all the right places… but my mind was elsewhere.Traditional. That’s what I’d said. It sounded good, reasonable but did I even believe it?Jayden Hale looked like the kind of man who could pin a woman to a wall with just a glance. Broad shoulders. That quiet, watchful intensity. The kind of presence that made other men step aside. But behind closed doors? He was careful. Distant. Like there was a line he refused to cross. It wasn’t just about sex it was the way he held back everything. A touch that lingered but never moved further. A kiss that ended before I wanted it to. It made me feel like I was chasing him. Begging him. And that wasn’t me.Not the Dahlia Fisher who had men lining up just for a chance to take me to dinner.I tried to shake it off. He’s probably just old-fashioned. That’s all. But deep down, there was a whisper I didn’t want to hea

~~Dahlia~~I stood in front of my vanity, dabbing a little shimmer onto my cheekbones and fixing the last curl in my hair. The mirror grinned back at me or maybe that was just me, feeling smug as hell. Today wasn’t just about shopping; it was about being seen. About reminding everyone exactly who I was and who I belonged to.By the time I reached the boutique café where my friends were waiting, the air was already buzzing with their chatter. The moment I stepped inside, three heads turned in perfect unison.“Girlie, you are glowing,” Maya said, dragging out the word like it was some kind of holy revelation.“What else do you expect from a woman engaged to the most eligible bachelor in town?” Sienna chimed in, sipping her latte with a knowing smirk.“I know, right?” Tasha added, eyes sparkling like she’d just been handed the latest piece of royal gossip. And then all together, as if rehearsed they sang out,“Jayden. Mother. Fucking. Hale!”The words wrapped around me like champagne bub

~~Lena~~“So… you’re indeed pregnant, huh?”The words tasted strange in my mouth, like they didn’t belong in this world. But there it was black and white, no room for denial. This whole pregnancy thing is bullshit.I stared at Jay, my arms folded tight across my chest. “How come? How the hell did this happen?” My voice came out harsher than I meant, but I couldn’t help it. “Who knows about this? And don’t tell me ‘no one’ I want names. Who are the doctors who examined you?”Jay opened his mouth, but I was already steamrolling over him. “And most importantly—” I leaned forward, my eyes locked on his—“who did you sleep with?” The last question sounded weird in my head and I ended up laughing at my crazy thought… who did you sleep with? Really Lena…? What a weird question to ask.He flinched, and guilt pricked at me, but I couldn’t stop. “Did the doctor say you… have a womb or something? What did he say about your gender? Are you really—” I hesitated, almost choking on the words “are you

~~Lena~~I didn’t sleep that night.I sat in Jay’s apartment long after he’d finally cried himself into an exhausted, uneven sleep. I kept replaying his words in my head, over and over, trying to force them into something logical. But no matter how I turned them, they didn’t fit.Jay. My brother. Pregnant. It was impossible. And yet… I’d seen impossible break people before. I’d seen it in our childhood, when father’s expectations crushed him so hard he forgot how to breathe. I’d seen it in the way he hides everything behind that stone-cold mask in public. But this? This was different. This wasn’t just pressure. This was fear down to the bone.I brushed a hand over his hair as he slept. He looked so much younger like this, like the boy I used to defend from school bullies and from father’s sharp tongue. That protective part of me, the part that’s been here since I was old enough to fight for him rose up with claws out.Whoever did this to him… whatever caused it… I wasn’t going to let

~~Lena~~I had a bad feeling the moment Jay didn’t pick up my calls. I know I shouldn’t have let him go out alone, not when he’s not feeling good, our parent don’t real give much of a fuck about us as long as we abide by the rules and don’t disappoint them, so worrying about each other has become an habit. If when I get compared to him, he’s still the only family that cares about me.He always answers me, even if it’s just to bark “I’m busy” and hang up. But this time? Nothing. Not the first call. Not the fifth.By the sixth, my gut was twisting. So I grabbed my keys and went straight to his apartment hoping he will be there. The moment I stepped inside, I froze.Jay was on the floor by the couch, his elbows braced on his knees, his head buried in his hands. His shoulders were shaking like the weight of the world had finally collapsed on top of him. His breaths were harsh, shallow the kind of gasping panic I hadn’t seen in him since we were kids.“Jay…” I stepped forward cautiously. “

~~Jay~~By the time the sun came up the next morning, I was already wide awake. The dinner replayed in my head like a bad movie, every word, every glance, every time Alex’s voice cut through the tension. But underneath all of that was the one thought I couldn’t shake, I need answers. Now.Waiting another day wasn’t an option.I told my parents I had an early work meeting. Since I slept over the night before, they won’t let me leave because or rather Lena and mom won’t let me leave they were worried about my health . Lena offered to tag along, but I brushed her off. This wasn’t something I could have anyone else involved in. Not yet.The specialist’s office was in one of those modern glass buildings downtown, the kind where the lobby smells faintly of lemon polish and money. I checked in under a false name, pulled my baseball cap lower, and kept my head down until I was called in.The doctor was a sharp-looking man in his fifties with silver hair and a voice that sounded like he’d been
