“Your first mistake was thinking that you could stand up to me and your second mistake is actually allowing your intrusive thoughts to put you in this position.” Robert snarled at me.

He was turning every shade of red already. His tight fitted shirt was already straining against his neck and biceps, he looked like he would burst if care wasn’t taken.

“Isn’t it convenient that you’re getting mad and you believe that you have every right to be mad?” I scoffed.

If he thought that he was going to scare me, he had to rethink. He wasn’t half as scary as Zach and Zayn, if I could stand up to them, he was nothing.

“You dared to insult me in front of the whole class and I can’t let that slide.” Robert yelled.

He was drawing attention towards us and I hated being in the center of any commotion but I wasn’t going to be able to escape this one—I could see it already.

“You called me a sex worker in front of the whole class, Robert. All I did in retaliation was call you a crying little bitch.”

There was a cheer from the crowd after Zach and Zayn left Robert and his friends in a bloodied heap and we heard the sound of security guards coming before anyone else did because of our super hearing and we left the scene before either of us would be taken in for questioning. We were in my dorm room and I was in the bedroom with Danielle, whose mouth was still hung open as I narrated everything that happened on campus today. Tyler was in the sitting room with the twins and they were discussing sports at the top of their voices. Boys would always be boys and I wondered if it was like this for every male—supernatural or not. “Do you think Robert is going to tell them that you were involved in the beating he and his friends got?” Danielle asked, she was worried about the aftermath but I wasn’t. I knew guys like Robert and I knew how they think. Zach and Zayn were literal blueprints, they taught me everything I needed to know about bullies and how their mind works. “Do you think that

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” I said. The more I complained about the way they acted, the more they did more harm to my plans of staying quiet throughout my time here on campus. Their antics were starting to get on my nerves and I hated the fact that they were trying so hard to please me. “We’re trying to help you to get more friends because you need them. Nobody tries to bully the popular kids and trust us, we know how these things work. We might not always be around to protect you so we’re helping you get insurance.” Zayn said. DoHis explanation would’ve made sense if I wasn’t pissed at both of them. “I didn’t ask you to do this, Zayn. I shouldn’t have invited you here in the first place, this is another one of the mistakes I’ll live to regret for the rest of my college life.” “You’re being dramatic, Ari.” Zach said. “We haven’t done anything to harm you or anything that had to do with you,” “On the contrary, you have.” I scowled at both of them. “Really? Let it out then.

Zach and Zayn didn’t relent in protecting me and trying to sway me with gifts either. Robert had come looking for them at a party after he had been discharged from the hospital and he ended up getting beat again and his friends all faced the same fate. No one knew who did it because no one saw anything to begin with. Zach confided in me that they saw Robert coming and they lured him and his friends away from the party before taking turns beating them to a pulp. Robert had reported them to the police but there was no sufficient evidence to prove what he was claiming and no one aside from his friends was willing to corroborate his allegations. “I’m curious, Zach. How did you get everyone to like the two of you on campus?” I asked. We were in my room, after Zach coerced me—yes, coerced me into allowing him to make me dinner and here we were. “We are very likable people, Ari,” Zach replied, his eyes glued to his screen. Did he forget he was supposed to be in the kitchen or something

I walked back into the apartment still reeling from the shock of what had just happened. Last night, Zach and Zayn had been flirting with the idea of returning to the pack and today, they invited me to their house to have dinner. I was too stunned to say anything and Zach came to my rescue, asking me to think about it before giving them an answer. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” I heard Danielle’s voice and I jumped in fright, throwing my bag at her head, narrowingly missing hitting her forehead because she was quick enough to duck. “What the hell, Ari?” Danielle snapped. “You nearly gave me a heart attack, Danielle!” I said, trying to calm my racing heart.“We’ve been living together for a long time now, why are you acting like you saw a stranger?” Danielle snapped. “You’re right, Danielle. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to freak out like that. It’s just that I thought were spending the entire weekend at Tyler’s like you said you would.” “His room is just still in this building

It felt like my whole world was collapsing yet again in front of me, I dropped the phone as I slid to the floor, ignoring the sound of the phone slamming against the ground as I broke down in tears. I didn’t deserve to be in this situation and my mother didn’t deserve this fate either. She was supposed to be home with the man she loved, having the time of her life, so who would dare harm her? I could feel the tears drop down my face as I angrily wiped it away, sniffing and trying to clean up my face. Crying wasn’t going to solve a lot of me right now, I had to do something other than sitting here and moping. Danielle pushed the door open and stared at me worriedly. “Is there a problem, Ari? I came rushing as soon as I could.” “I—uh, I just got terrible news, Danielle. And I think—I can’t, I need to go home. My mother. . .” I broke down in tears again, my body racking with sobs. Danielle wrapped her hands around me as she comforted me.“I know you’re hurting but you can’t do anyt

The more time I wasted, the longer it would take me to go after what I was after and it didn’t make any sense. None of them knew what was going on and they deserved to at the very least. “I got a call from Maya and she told me that my mother had collapsed and I had to return home quickly,” I said. Danielle gasped but the Alpha twins remained calm like they always were. “Did she say what happened to her?” Zach asked. “I don’t know—or maybe she did, I don’t know. As soon as I heard my mother had collapsed, nothing else mattered to me and I don’t know what’s her current situation either.” I sighed. “If Maya hasn’t called you again. It means she’s being looked after and I’m sure she’ll receive the best care possible.” Zayn said. I didn’t doubt that Alpha Jason would do everything to make sure that she didn’t die but I couldn’t be here while that happened. “We’re not asking you to stay here either. We understand why you have to leave, anyone would.” Zach added.“Good. Because I have

“I’ve got a ton of questions and I need answers, Maya. I need to understand what happened to her, someone has to have an explanation for that.” I snapped, pulling at my hair. “If you need answers, you’re at the wrong place then. There’s only one person who can give you the answers you desperately seek. I’m sorry but I’ve told you everything that I can, it’s why I had to call you to come back home because you deserve to know the truth.” Maya said. “Do you know where I can find Alpha Jason?” I asked. “There are two places where I believe he’d be in if he hadn't moved her away from the pack and I wouldn’t blame him for being cautious,” Maya said.I gave her a quick hug as I hurried out of her store deciding to stop by the hospital first. If I can’t find them there, I’d stop by the house next and if they won’t let me in—I’d burn it down. I arrived at the hospital and I could recognize a couple of the faces I saw, they were members of the Alpha’s private bodyguards and it spurred my be

It was a struggle to get out of bed. After leaving the hospital because I didn’t want to break down in front of Alpha Jason, I ran back to Maya’s store and she stayed up with me, trying to console me as I wept uncontrollably for hours. I couldn’t remember falling asleep but the last thing I remembered was accepting a cold glass of orange juice from Maya and that was it. She had probably slipped something inside it to knock me out for a couple of hours and I couldn’t blame her either, she had probably needed to shut her eyes for a couple of hours. The sleep numbed my pain for a couple of hours but it didn’t do anything to dull the pain and the anxiety that was threatening to consume me with each passing second. I couldn’t help but draw a parallel line between this moment and the dark time in my life when my bullies locked me in a cell after kidnapping me after school hours. I remembered waking up in a cell. The air felt cold and damp. I was scared, I rushed towards the bars and ju

“What are you doing here?” I asked. I felt my throat dry up instantly as I instinctively moved away. I always knew he was up to no good but seeing it happen was a different experience itself. He had been behind my kidnapping but what I didn’t know was if he brought me here to warn to stay steer clear from him and everything that had to do with him or if he brought me here for ulterior motives.“That’s a pretty stupid question, Ari. And I believe you’re smarter than this.” Beta Jude chuckled. The large man made his way out of the room and closed the door, leaving the two of us alone. The room suddenly felt stuffy and my palms became clammy. He had a very intimidating personality and I was doing my best not to cower in fear. “You can’t keep me here forever. Zach, Zayn, they’re going to look for me.” I said. “I believe they’ve got their hands full with taking care of things and if I remember correctly, you humiliated them at the hospital. So I don’t think they feel any need to talk

“Please no, I have a little girl. She doesn’t deserve this.” My mum pleaded.“Mummy, what’s going on?” I descended the stairs, clutching my teddy tightly. The commotion I was hearing downstairs was preventing me from falling asleep. “Go back upstairs, baby. Let your dad and I handle this. I’ll be up in a bit, I promise.”“Are you sure?” I didn’t believe my mom one bit, she seemed scared of someone standing in the shadows. I couldn’t see who it was, I tried to walk down the stairs some more but my father’s stern voice stopped me, telling me to return to my room and lock the door as soon as I got in. He had never yelled at me before but he did now. Something was wrong but I decided to go back upstairs. I slammed my bedroom door shut and lifted my window to slither outside like I’ve done countless times whenever I wanted to stay in the tree house a little bit before I went to bed. I caught on a branch on the tree next to my room before climbing down. I ran as fast as my little legs co

Ken“Okay, Ken. You’ve got both our attention and I’m hoping that this won’t be a waste of time because I’d hate to have you listed on my black book.” Beta Jude threatened. I was scared of him. A lot people were but unlike them, I didn’t wear it on a sleeve. I slotted the flash drive into the USB port on my laptop and clicked on the file. It revealed a couple of videos that were well detailed and arranged, it contained dash cam footage and surveillance videos titled Black. “You guys need to see this. I think she might be onto us or something. The videos are about footage concerning us.” I announced, already curious about what he would see once he clicked on it.Beta Jude and my father had already resigned to letting me have my way, so they had no other option but to join me to see what secrets Ari has been hiding from us. I hit play and the first video revealed numerous scenes of Beta Jude shifting into his wolf form and killing multiple other wolves and humans alike, often with

Ken “Was that necessary, Beta Jude?” I asked. “You went a little too far, don’t you think?”“How else is she going to learn to stay away, Ken? She doesn’t listen to anyone but herself and it’s going to get her into trouble around here.” Beta Jude turned to face me.“Isn’t there a more convenient way to get her to listen?” I stroked my jaw, looking towards my father who merely shrugged his shoulders.“I could try telling her why proceeding with this plan of hers is bad news for both her and our family.” “I had hoped it would not come to this, involving her in our family matters when we only have a contract for the next six months at best. But at this point, we’re running out of options to stop her before she does something drastic.” My father added, retrieving a bottle of whiskey from one of the drawers on the mahogany table. “So what do you suggest we do, Graham?” Beta Jude began. “I don't know how well I could restrain myself if I see her next time, I might kill her on the spot an

Lying down on the raw concrete, I could feel the walls closing in around me. I felt the vicious pounding of my heart banging repeatedly against my ribcage.I shut my eyes tightly. I could still hear myself yelling out in pain over the cacophony of a billion shards of glass as the freakishly large man slammed my head into the mirror. I couldn't bring myself to bask in the pain I felt. I had little or less time to figure out what this was all about before I would be dead.I didn’t tell anyone where I was going—it wasn’t like Maya was in the mood to talk to me and while I understood her annoyance, a small part of me was glad that she didn’t bug me when I left the house this morning but now I wish she did. I couldn’t tell where I was, the scent wasn’t a familiar one and given how easy it had become for foreign faces to walk in and out of the pack, I could’ve been transported to anywhere while I was out. Instinctively, I touched where a shard of glass had cut me. The wound had been band

"Do exactly what I say or you die." I had lost my touch. That's what happens when you allow yourself to be caught in unfortunate situations.I could feel my heart racing despite my best attempts to compose myself. The accent was masculine and sounded gruff. There was no quake or tremor in the man's voice. His tone sounded calm and detailed. This was no hoax, if I went out of line, I would die.The thought of that alone terrified me. "What do you want?"I asked fearfully as the cold steel of his blade pressed into the small of my back.I needed a distraction. My first instinct was to lean into the hilt and spin sharply to his right, turning the knife away from my body. The man was probably left-handed, he would need a second or two to adjust his aim and that was enough time. He would be exposed on his right-hand side and I could land on a blow through that exposed gap giving me enough leverage to break his arm and bury the knife into his forehead.Old memories. But the woman who co

“Words are cool and all but don’t expect me to believe anything that has just come out of your mouth, Ken,” I said. “I would be surprised if you did but I didn’t come here to lie to you.” He said. “The last time I lapped up every word you said, you tried to drug me and rape me. And when I found out that it was all part of a bigger plan involving the five of you, it was already too late because it had already triggered the chain reaction that led to the sex video being circulated in the pack without my consent.” “Ari, I—““Don’t interrupt me, Ken. Let me finish before you say anything else.” I snapped. I knew what this was like and I wasn’t going to give him the room to lie to my face some more. I wanted to lay down rules and if he wasn’t pleased with it, the door was wide open for him to walk the fuck out the same way he walked in. “Okay,” He mumbled and fell quiet. “Firstly, I don’t trust and I don’t think I ever will trust you after what you did to me but that’s beside the poi

I walked away and they didn’t bother to call me back. I figured that they wanted to leave me alone or they were tired of chasing me around. I could tell that they were both angry that I wouldn’t give this up but I didn’t care. I wasn’t doing this for them and if they wanted to save their reputation, they didn’t have to help me. I could do it all by myself and if things turned out ugly, I’d take the punishment myself and without anyone’s help. I mean, it wasn’t like I was a crowd’s favorite around here anyways. My reputation here was cooked and what’s one more dent in my already broken shield? It wasn’t going to matter much either way. Even if I was ridiculed by everyone, I had no intentions of staying here—not after what they did to me and besides, I had a whole new life to return to when my mother fully recovers. I made my way out of the State Building and debated on where next I should go. I thought about heading to the hospital but I wasn’t sure Alpha Jason would be pleased with

“You should’ve said something or you could’ve walked in.” Zach frowned. “What difference would it have made?” I asked, looking at them. “For what it’s worth, we’re glad that you’re here. We had plans to talk to you before we resume for the day.” Zach added. I wanted to argue further but it seemed pointless. I had to listen to what they wanted to say first before adding anything. I had a couple of questions for them as well but I didn’t want to push it until I understood everything going on. “Come in then,” Zach ushered me in, while Zayn closed the door. I made my way to the couch while they remained standing. “Is there a problem?” I asked, unable to stay silent any longer. I didn’t like the way they were looking at me and sharing glances between themselves, there was something I didn’t know yet. Something that they didn’t mention while I was listening in on their conversation. “Our father told us everything you said about Beta Jude and we want to confirm if what he said is t
