Chapter 4

CHAPTER 4

She’s confused but surprised to receive a message from Havoc outside their counseling and he’s even asking what time she’ll be arriving tomorrow. Okay, Sunny, don’t overthink. Maybe he has an appointment and he wanted to arrange his schedule.

To: Mr. Montemayor

I’d be there at 10 o’clock in the morning

He didn’t reply to her message.

On their second counseling, Havoc is the one who opened the door for her when she arrived. When she enters the office, Sunny comfortably sits on the couch where she was seated yesterday. She looks at Havoc and frowned.

“Why do you look so bothered today?”

Havoc grabs his cellphone and started to compose a message for her. Just a few seconds later, Sunny’s phone vibrated.

“I’m just thinking about the things that you will do today to anger me again.” she smiled.

“Well, that’s good. It means that you’re looking forward to this session, right?” Havoc only rolled his eyes at her. But well she’s right. He’s bothered about seeing her again but also looking forward to today’s counseling session.

“Provoke me and your candy won’t save you anymore.” Sunny walks towards the chair in front of the table where he’s sitting.

“Don’t worry, Mr. Montemayor. We’ll do something very simple for today. You can ask me 3 questions and I’ll gladly answer them.” he frowned as if he can’t believe what she just said.

“Lame.” he typed out. She shrugged her shoulder and grabbed her phone.

“Come on, Mr. Montenegro. Ask me a question. I know you still have doubts about me and I’ll give you a chance to know more. It’s not good for a doctor-patient relationship to have no trust with one another.”

He tilts his head in confusion. Maybe he is thinking if she’s going to make him mad. He’s right though but not now. Not yet.

When he saw that she’s dedicated about this game that they’re gonna be playing, he immediately grabbed his phone and sent her a message.

“Why did you become a psychiatrist?”

She smiled. In all fairness, the first question has sense. “Simple. Because I wanted to listen to their voices whose being ignored by the society. I want to give them the attention that they needed during their battle. I want to listen to their stories.” She stopped and saw Havoc listening intently at her so she continued.

“They may look normal on the outside but they are suffering an unseen disease inside. Unconsciously, they are nurturing their self destruction in their mind because they find it really hard to be understood by the people around them. No matter how they want to explain their thoughts, the society will still call them crazy and attention-seeker. I really like this profession because it opens me what an inner struggle really means. Because of that, I’m being extra motivated to somehow fix their life.” she saw him nodded which means that he understands everything that she said.

It’s now time for his second question. “I’m having a therapy for about 7 years now and I had more than 10 psychiatrists already, what makes you different from all the other psychiatrists that I had?”

“Do you want to hear an honest answer?” he nodded “Hmmm actually there’s nothing wrong with the counseling of your previous psychiatrists. It’s you who have a big problem about them. I don’t know. I accepted your case because I know the person who asked me a favor of taking your case so I did.”

That must be the detective, he thought

“And after hearing your story, I’m extra motivated to help you because as I have said earlier, the bigger the inner struggles of the patients, the more willing I am to help them.” she looked at Havoc and he only do is look away from her.

“What makes me a little different from your previous psychiatrists? I got your full attention and cooperation. Haven’t you noticed that you’re cooperating with our counseling sessions. You are showing a little bit of progress although you hate that thought.”

Although he badly wants to smile, he doesn’t want to show it. She’s right. It has been only two days but she immediately got his attention and cooperation on her counseling sessions; things that her previous psychiatrist failed to do. It has been two days but she already got a lot of responses from him. Why didn’t I notice that before?

“Mr. Montenegro, you still have one remaining question, use it wisely.”

“Just call me Havoc.”

She gasped. “Wait is this a friendly term? Havoc? I’m not going to complain” she laughs and that’s the most beautiful laugh that he ever heard. “I find it really hard to pronounce your surname. Call me Sunny, too.”

Havoc smiled on what she just said. She caught a glimpse of his dimples when he smiles.

“So what’s your third question?”

“Do you have a boyfriend?”

Her eyes widened. “Hey, that is a personal question!”

“What? You said I can ask anything I want!”

Sunny sighs and looked at him. She gave that instruction so she needs to answer everything he wants to know about her.

“I don’t have a boyfriend.”

Havoc immediately covers his lips and smiles. She does not a boyfriend.

“Wait, are you smiling?” he removed his hand on his face then typed a message on his phone.

“Why would I even smile??”

She really saw him smiled again. OMG! I made him smile twice. Such an achievement.

“You’re done asking so it’s now my turn to ask you 3 questions.”

Anger consumed Havoc in an instant.

“You never mentioned that you’ll be asking me, too! This is unfair!”

She frowned. “What? This should be a give and take. A businessman like you should know that. Nothing is free now.”

She saw the sudden nervousness on his face as if he was in trouble. She handed him a candy which Havoc immediately put inside his mouth.

“First question, after Anna, have you had any girlfriend?”

“Do you want me to see getting mad again? I refused to answer that!”

“You’re the one who’s unfair. I answered all your questions including the personal one.”

Sunny heard him sighed before composing a message on his phone. He looks bothered and confused while looking at it. She saw him deleting the message and then composing again. After a few minutes, her phone vibrated.

“None.”

She finds his answer short but sweet. Actually, Sunny already knows the answer. It’s very obvious. He loves her too much that he’s willing to cave all their memories together for how long he could take. What a lucky lady.

“Next question, what is your favorite color?”

“Black”

Sunny looked at his surrounding once again. She nodded at his answer. “In color psychology, black gives protection from external emotional stress. Black creates a barrier that separates a person from the outside world. This color can protect their soul and emotion from anyone who wants to take and read them. The person who likes black hides his vulnerabilities, insecurities, and lack of confidence through this color.”

Her words made his heart quiver. She’s right.

“Take a look at your place. There’s an absence of light. It defines black. Your kind of black. But you must know that black also signifies the end and the end always implies a new beginning. So I hope someday you let yourself be free from guilt.”

His jaw clenched at the last words that she said. “Stop it. You’ll just embarrass yourself.”

“Why? I am right? Did I catch you?”

Havoc frowned and looked at her intently before he sighed and calm himself.

“You only have one question left. Ask so I can finally relax.”

Sunny got nervous. She sighed and composed herself. It looks impossible for him to be relaxed on the next question that she’s going to ask. This would be the main course of today’s meal. It’s now or never, Sunny.

“Havoc, what kind of woman Anna is?”
