Chapter 4

مؤلف: Adrian
The long-awaited wedding day finally arrived.

In our previous life, Draco had been called away to war at the last moment, leaving Amelia with a rushed, joyless wedding. The humiliation had haunted her through both lives.

So this time around, armed with her knowledge from rebirth, she was determined to have the grandest wedding imaginable.

She screamed and sobbed until Lysander emptied his accounts and borrowed from loan sharks, all to stage the most extravagant wedding in the kingdom and crown her its most dazzling bride.

Her diamond-encrusted gown and white carriage did draw gasps from a few lower-ranked shifters.

Amelia basked in it, then shot me a triumphant look.

"Elena, do you see this? This is what a woman's wedding should look like! What can Draco give you? All that brute knows is how to fight."

The instant the words left her mouth, the deafening thunder of engines split the sky!

A fleet of helicopters plunged toward the grounds, nearly flipping Amelia's white carriage!

Then a motorcade of Maseratis pulled up to the ceremony hall entrance.

The lead door opened, and Draco unfolded from the car.

He wore a custom dark-gold suit that made him look every inch a King. Ignoring the stunned crowd, he crossed to me and gently took my hand.

The sheer wealth and authority behind his entrance left every guest speechless!

Beside us, Amelia and Lysander's spectacle looked like a cheap carnival act.

The smile on Amelia's face crumbled, and she dug her nails into her palms with jealousy.

The ceremony had barely begun when history repeated itself: war had broken out in the North.

As the kingdom's warlord and rightful heir, Draco had to abandon the wedding and ride for the front at once.

But this time, Draco didn't walk away without looking back the way he had before.

He turned to me, conflict and raw reluctance filling his eyes.

His hand tightened around mine. "Elena... I don't want to leave you now."

He cared about me. He couldn't bear to leave me facing an unfinished wedding alone.

Just then, a sneering voice cut in.

"Draco, if you and your bride are so desperately in love, why not stay here with her?!"

Lysander jumped at the chance, gloating openly.

Amelia piled on at once, making sure everyone heard. "Exactly! It's only an uprising in the North. What can a few feral clans do? Even if they breach the border, only lowborn commoners will die. How can their lives compare to a royal wedding?"

She raised her voice deliberately, trying to use flattery as a weapon. "Prince Draco would give his life for Elena. How could he possibly abandon his bride on their wedding day? Am I right, everyone?"

The shifters around them traded uneasy looks and began to whisper.

If Draco stayed for me, the realm would brand him a coward, and he would lose the people's trust for good!

Amelia's trap was vicious!

"Shut up, you fool!"

I spun on Amelia and cut her down with my voice!

My voice echoed through the entire great hall, and everyone held their breath.

I looked at her and Lysander as if they were vermin. "The people of the North are citizens of this kingdom too! Without them bleeding at the border, would any of you be standing here in gold and jewels, celebrating a wedding?"

Amelia went pale. "You... stop acting so noble!"

I didn't spare her another glance. I turned and looked straight into Draco's eyes.

I cupped Draco's face in both hands and raised my voice. "Draco! Our wedding can wait. The kingdom cannot!"

"You are the rightful heir and the greatest warrior this realm has ever known! You have a duty. Your battlefield is in the North, and your blade belongs at the enemy's throat!"

I held his gaze. "I am already your wife and your future Queen! I will never ask you to betray your principles for me. Go. I will stand with you through whatever comes."

The truth was, every part of me wanted to ride into battle at his side!

But Draco's death in our previous life had not been an accident! I had to remain in the capital, secure his position, and hunt down whoever had plotted against him.

My declaration rang through the hall like a battle cry.

Even the old King rose from the place of honor, pride and astonishment shining in his eyes.

Draco's eyes reddened.

He pulled me into his arms and kissed me hard on the lips.

"Wait for me to come home."

Afterward, the shifter kingdom entered an age of prosperity unlike any it had known.Draco and I built a trade network that carried crystals from the polar ice fields across the continent. We also improved the kingdom's farms until even the lowest-ranked shifters had food on their tables and warm clothes on their backs. In the capital's central square, we raised a monument to peace and prosperity and carved both our names into the stone. Every citizen who passed stopped to pay their respects. Our life together was quiet and deeply romantic. Draco was no longer the cold-blooded warrior who thought only of war. If I so much as said I missed him, he would postpone a military council and drive me to Aurora Forest himself to watch the night sky blaze.Once, in a garden overflowing with Aurora Roses, Draco sat awkwardly stitching a cape for me. The hands that had wielded the realm's deadliest sword now bent willingly to needlework for my sake."Draco, you're the King. If anyone sees you sewi

The air in the underground chamber turned suffocating. My words held Lysander pinned in place, his whole body shaking with the shame and terror of being exposed. Then, from just outside, came the sound of light footsteps. Before either of us could move, the heavy stone door crashed open. Amelia staggered in, her clothes in rags, her once-delicate face ravaged by prison and abuse. A stolen dagger shook in her fist. She froze when she saw Lysander, then broke into a shrill, fractured laugh."I finally found you, my dear husband!" Amelia fixed on Lysander. "You coward! You're hiding down here pining for that bitch? You sold me out for her!"Lysander stumbled backward in terror. "Amelia? How did you escape? Get away from me!""You want me gone? Dream on!" Amelia shrieked and charged, driving the rusty dagger straight into Lysander's chest.Stab!Lysander screamed and stared at the blade buried in his heart. The light drained from his eyes. He died without ever understanding how this life's

The ravings Amelia had screamed in the great hall struck Lysander's greedy, warped mind like lightning.Amelia was hauled away, but Lysander was not executed. Confined to the servants' wing, he obsessed over her words in a fever of fear and resentment. My recent, almost prophetic moves only fed his delusion. He believed her! In his mind, he truly had been King in our previous life, and I, Elena, had ruled beside him as Queen!Jealousy nearly drove him insane. He began haunting me like a parasite, subjecting me to an increasingly revolting campaign of harassment. He bribed a maid to hide a letter written in blood beneath my tea tray: "My beloved Elena, I finally remember! We belong together. Come back to me!"He even slipped past the guards during a shift change and knelt beneath my bedroom window in the pouring rain. Sobbing like a stray dog, he begged, "Elena! I was wrong! That worthless Amelia never deserved me! Only you deserve to be my Queen. Please forgive me. Let us start over!"

Once Draco was crowned, he spoiled me shamelessly. To make up for our interrupted wedding, he carpeted the kingdom in my favorite Aurora Roses. They bloomed only at the rim of the frozen abyss, each flower worth a fortune, its petals glittering like starlight."Do you like them?" Draco wrapped his arms around me from behind and rested his chin at the curve of my neck, his voice lazy and sinfully seductive. He toyed with a strand of my hair, then slipped a necklace glowing faint blue around my throat as if conjuring it from thin air.It was the Sea God's Tear, a jewel the shifter royal family had guarded for a thousand years.I touched the cool stone and glanced at Draco, who showed the rest of the world nothing but brutality. A laugh escaped me. "Did you empty the treasury? If the old men on the Council of Elders find out, they'll call me the temptress who ruined the kingdom.""Anyone who complains loses his tongue." Draco gave a dismissive snort, then bent and claimed my mouth, his po

A tall, commanding figure strode into the hall, backlit by the open doors.Draco! He was not only alive; he had returned in triumph! The room went dead silent. Amelia, who had been gloating just seconds ago, froze mid-smile and let out a scream as if she'd seen a ghost. "No! Impossible! How can you be alive? You were supposed to die in the North!"Draco never spared her a glance. He came straight to me, and the cold distance in his eyes melted into aching tenderness. He crushed me to his chest, his breath hot against my ear. "Elena, I'm back. I won.""Cough, cough... Good! Good!" The old King, who had been on the brink of death, seemed to rally by sheer miracle at the sight of Draco alive, tears streaming down his weathered face."Draco has pacified the North and defended the realm! From this day forward, he is your King!" The old King did not hesitate. He placed the crown where it belonged.Thunderous cheers shook the great hall. Every noble instantly changed sides and dropped to thei

Draco vanished into the North, and soon all word from him ceased, exactly as it had in our previous life.At the worst possible moment, the aging King collapsed and slipped into a coma. With Draco missing and the realm leaderless, the court had no choice but to name Lysander acting regent.Lysander and Amelia finally dropped their masks. With Lysander holding the reins, Amelia became more arrogant and vicious than ever!As the days without any word from Draco stretched on, the nobles who had once fawned over me gradually began to freeze me out.But I couldn't have cared less.A month later, the report came from the front: Draco had fallen in battle! The entire capital erupted.Amelia was beside herself with delight. In our previous life, Draco's death in the North had widowed her young and made her the laughingstock of the shifter world. Now she was certain I was about to inherit the same misery! One day, while I reviewed intelligence reports in my study, Amelia swept in with a pack of
