Delilah’s POV

There were sounds of wolves training already echoed through the forest from the direction of the grounds, and my stomach sank.

No. No, they couldn’t be training this early. Training started at nine and it always started at nine.

Except apparently not today.

I stood on the porch trying to figure out what to do, because the path to the healing center ran right past the training grounds. There was no other route that wouldn’t add twenty minutes to my walk, and I couldn’t be late on my first day since Margaret had made it clear that punctuality mattered.

Maybe I could slip past without them noticing. The path skirted the edge of the clearing, so if I moved quickly and quietly with my head down, maybe they’d be too focused on their drills to pay attention to me.

It was a terrible plan, but it was the only one I had.

I started down the path with my heart hammering with each step that brought me closer to the sounds of sparring and Sarah’s voice calling out instructions. The mo

  • My Step-Brothers’ Forbidden Addiction   CHAPTER 42

Vivienne’s POVThe private dining room at Lunar Heights was even more beautiful than I’d imagined. Crystal chandeliers cast warm light over elegantly dressed tables, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the city lights twinkling in the distance. Everything was perfect, from the floral arrangements to the soft music playing in the background.I stood beside Ryker with his arm wrapped around my waist, and felt a surge of gratitude so powerful it nearly brought tears to my eyes. This was real. This life, this man, this acceptance I’d never dared to hope for.“You look radiant,” Alpha Luna Whitlock said, approaching with a warm smile. She was an elegant woman in her fifties with silver hair styled impeccably. “Marriage suits you, Vivienne.”“Thank you, Luna,” I said, still getting used to the fact that the Alpha Luna of Nightshade Pack was speaking to me like an equal, treating me like I belonged here instead of like the former rogue who’d spent years being whispered about and judged.

Delilah’s POVI jolted awake, disoriented and groggy, and grabbed my phone from my nightstand. Just past noon. I’d managed maybe four hours of sleep.“I’m awake,” I called back, my voice rough.“Mom and Dad already left for the restaurant,” Mateo’s voice joined his brother’s. “You’re riding with us. Oh, and Mom wanted us to remind you to grab her emergency makeup kit. She forgot it.”My stomach dropped. Of course they knew about the makeup kit. They’d probably been there when Mom mentioned it yesterday.“Where is it?” I asked through the door, not wanting to open it and face them yet.“She said it’s in her bathroom somewhere,” Dante replied, his tone carrying that edge of amusement that always meant trouble. “Better hurry up and find it. We’re leaving at one sharp.”Their footsteps retreated down the hall.I dragged myself out of bed and started searching. Mom’s bathroom cabinet was chaos, bottles and brushes and bags crammed together with no order. I pulled things out one by one, loo

  • My Step-Brothers’ Forbidden Addiction   CHAPTER 40

Delilah’s POVMy blue dress lay across my bed in tatters, destroyed beyond any hope of repair. Someone had taken scissors or a knife to the fabric, shredding it methodically from neckline to hem until the bodice hung in strips and the skirt looked like it had been through a paper shredder. Dark stains that looked suspiciously like motor oil covered what remained of the silk.I stood frozen in the doorway, staring at the ruins of the only formal dress I owned, the dress I’d worn to my university graduation, the one Mom had saved up for months to buy me because she wanted me to feel special that day.Now it was destroyed. My hands shook as I moved closer and picked up a piece of torn fabric, examining the clean, deliberate cut. Someone had spent time doing this, making sure every inch was ruined so thoroughly that even the best seamstress couldn’t salvage it.Mateo’s voice echoed in my head from dinner. “She should probably bring a backup. Formal events can be unpredictable.”They’d kno

Delilah’s POV“It wasn’t a big deal,” I said, sliding into my seat and focusing intently on my empty plate.“Playing with children,” Dante added, tilting his head like he was considering this new information. “How sweet. I didn’t know you were so good with kids.”The double meaning in his words was clear to me even if no one else caught it. He was mocking me. Reminding me that he’d orchestrated the whole thing.“It was spontaneous,” I said quietly.“Well, I think it’s lovely,” Mom said, passing me a serving bowl of roasted vegetables. “The more connections you make here, the better. This is your home now.”Ryker raised his wine glass with a broad smile. “Speaking of home and connections, I want to make a toast. Tomorrow is not just my birthday. It’s a celebration of our family coming together. Vivienne, the boys, and Delilah—we’re building something special here.”We all lifted our glasses. Mine trembled slightly in my hand.“And speaking of tomorrow,” Ryker continued, setting his gla

Delilah’s POVThe walk back to the car had been torture. Every step through that market felt like walking through a gauntlet of judgment. People whispered behind their hands, their eyes tracking my movement like I was some kind of spectacle. A woman I vaguely recognized from pack gatherings had made deliberate eye contact before turning her back, pulling her own child closer as if I might contaminate them.I’d kept my head down and focused on putting one foot in front of the other. The vendor who’d been cold to me earlier had looked almost smug when I returned to his stall for the carrots I’d dropped during the attack. He’d handed them over without a word, but his expression said everything.By the time I reached Mom’s car, my hands were shaking so badly I could barely grip the grocery bags. I’d loaded them into the passenger seat with jerky, uncoordinated movements, my whole body vibrating with suppressed emotion. Then I’d just sat there in the driver’s seat, staring at nothing, tryi

Delilah’s POV“Can I help you?” he asked, his tone clipped.“I need bell peppers, please. Three red ones.”He selected the peppers with mechanical efficiency, dropping them into a bag without meeting my eyes. When I handed him cash, he took it like I might contaminate him, setting my change on the counter rather than placing it in my hand.“Thanks,” I murmured, but he’d already turned away to greet his next customer with genuine warmth. My hands trembled as I added the peppers to my basket. Maybe I was reading too much into things. Maybe the woman had been staring at something behind me. Maybe the vendor was just having a bad day.But deep down, I knew better. This was what my life was now. Whispers and cold shoulders. Judgment from strangers who only knew the version of my story the pack had decided to tell.I was reaching for a bunch of carrots, trying to convince myself that the worst was over and I could just finish shopping and leave, when I heard them.“Hey! Pretty lady!”I turn
