Evelyn’s POV

The moment I opened my eyes, my throat felt like sandpaper, my lips dry and cracked, but I forced myself to speak. The words came out slower than I expected, but firm.

"Let’s get a divorce."

The air in the room shifted like I had just shattered glass. It was the first time I had ever spoken to Louis with my voice, my real voice, and those were the words I gave him.

I hesitated at first. My fingers curled around the bedsheet, heart thudding painfully against my chest. I hadn’t spoken to him since the wedding day. I hadn’t spoken to anyone in a long time. He didn’t even know I could talk. But now he did. And from the way his eyes widened, from the way his lips parted in disbelief, I knew he had suspected all along.

He just never said anything.

And I couldn’t keep hiding anymore. There was no point. No safety in silence. So I said it, finally, and I meant every syllable.

I was going to divorce him.

My heart was broken in ways he could never fix. Not with words. Not with time

  • My Wife, My Blackmailer    Bleeding hearts

Evelyn’s POVThe room was chaos, officers moving swiftly, radios crackling, the metallic scent of blood hanging heavy in the air, but all I could focus on was Louis. His head rested limply against my shoulder, his skin ice cold and drenched in sweat. The deep red stain across his pants was growing by the second, his blood seeping through my clothes and onto the floor. I kept my arms wrapped tightly around him, like I could somehow hold him together with sheer will.“Where the hell is the ambulance?” one officer barked into his radio, pacing anxiously. My heart pounded against my ribs like it was trying to break free from my chest. “Please…” I whispered, not to anyone in particular. “Please, God, not now. Don’t take him. Not like this.”I pressed my forehead to Louis’s, trying to steady my shaking breath. “You’re okay, Louis. You’re going to be okay. Just stay with me, okay?”His eyelids fluttered, but he didn’t speak. His face was pale, too pale, and there was a faint blue tint on his

  • My Wife, My Blackmailer    Shattered

Evelyn’s POV“Louis!” I screamed. The gunshot cracked through the air like lightning, and everything inside me snapped. My scream tore out of my throat so violently it left a burn behind. My chest felt like it would explode as I lunged toward the doorway, heart in my mouth, adrenaline surging so violently it blurred my vision. He turned at the last second, his eyes catching mine, wide, alarmed, full of pain. The bullet struck his leg. Louis crumpled to the ground with a strangled groan, his gun slipping from his grasp and clattering against the hardwood floor. I felt like time shattered into fragments right then. My lungs couldn’t expand. My legs wouldn't move fast enough. Everything went slow and fast all at once.“No—no—no—” I cried, stumbling toward him, but I didn’t get far.The man stepped through the smoke-filled hallway like a nightmare walking out of hell. His boots crunched over broken glass, his silhouette backlit by flickering lights. I froze. My entire body locked. It was

  • My Wife, My Blackmailer    Break in

Evelyn’s POVHis lips met mine, soft at first, like a question. But the moment I responded, it deepened into something desperate. Raw. Like we’d both been holding our breath for months and finally exhaled. His hand cupped my cheek gently, thumb brushing beneath my eye where tears had fallen earlier. His touch was reverent. Careful. But there was hunger there too, barely restrained.I leaned into him, letting my fingers bury themselves in his hair. Warm. Familiar. My lips trembled against his, tasting salt and grief and hope. He kissed like a man on the edge, and I kissed back like a woman choosing to stay.Louis pulled back just slightly, breathing hard. His forehead rested against mine.“Tell me to stop,” he whispered, voice hoarse. “And I will.”I didn’t.Instead, I lifted my hand to his jaw, tracing the rough edge with my thumb. “I don’t want you to stop,” I breathed. His eyes searched mine, as if to be sure. My heartbeat thudded against my ribs, but my answer was clear.I nodded,

  • My Wife, My Blackmailer    In this together

Louis’s POVShe didn’t say a word.Just stared at me, her eyes frozen wide. I couldn’t read her face. Couldn’t tell if it was shock or heartbreak or something in between. My heart pounded so loudly in my chest I was sure she could hear it.I waited.Waited for her expression to crack. For her to speak. For anything. But she just blinked, slow and heavy, as if the weight of everything had finally caught up to her.“I signed the papers,” I said again, softer this time, like maybe she hadn’t heard me right the first time. “Like you wanted.”My throat tightened, and I had to clench my jaw to stop the words from trembling. I didn’t want to sound broken. But I was.She still didn’t speak. Her fingers fidgeted on the sheets, twisting the fabric like it was the only thing grounding her. Her lips parted slightly, then pressed back together. Her eyes, red-rimmed and tired, locked onto mine, searching for something. What, I didn’t know.Forgiveness? Closure? Or maybe one last reason to stay.I

  • My Wife, My Blackmailer    The pain

Evelyn’s POV“No, no, no… this can’t be real… Mom…” I wept.My body collapsed beneath the weight of the truth. The cold, sterile floor caught me as I broke, knees slamming down, arms wrapped around myself like I was trying to hold all my pieces together. My cries echoed off the morgue walls, raw, desperate, and endless. Then I felt it.Arms, strong and familiar, wrapped around me. Louis. He dropped to the floor without hesitation, gathering me into him like I was a fragile bird with broken wings. His chest rose and fell unevenly, his voice trembling as he whispered, “I’m here. Evelyn, I’m right here. I’ve got you.”I clutched at his shirt, burying my face into the fabric, sobbing so violently I could hardly breathe. “She’s gone… Louis, she’s really gone.”“I know, I know,” he murmured, pressing his cheek to the top of my head. “I’m so sorry.”We stayed like that, just us, huddled on a cold linoleum floor while the world around us froze in time. The officer in the room respectfully tur

  • My Wife, My Blackmailer    Confirming the Unthinkable

Evelyn's POVI got up abruptly, my chair scraping against the tiled floor with a sharp screech. The sound pierced the air like my own awkwardness. I couldn’t stand being so close to him anymore, not with my heart pounding like this, not with the weight of his gaze still on me.I needed space.I needed to breathe. So, without saying a word, I turned away and walked toward the kitchen, anywhere that would place a wall between me and Louis. My steps were quick but uneven. My palms felt clammy. My skin too warm. I tried to focus on anything else, the counter, the shine of the faucet, the sunlight on the floor, but all I could feel was his eyes following me.Then I heard his footsteps. Steady. Approaching.“Evelyn…” his voice came gently from behind me.Before I could turn fully, I felt it, his hand, firm but careful, resting on my shoulder. It grounded me and rattled me all at once.I froze.Completely.My spine stiffened. My breath hitched. I stared blankly at the sink in front of me, af
