Chapter 20

“Yes mum, I’m fine. Just wanted to go off the radar for some days.” Skye said on the phone as I stayed by her door side. Thanks to my heightened senses, I could hear how worried her mother sounded over the phone. Skye was no different either and it only made that guilt pang hard in my chest.

“Talk to you some other time, goodnight.” She said before ending the call. She dropped her phone lazily on the bed and only then did she notice my presence.

“Hey,” I mumbled and she inhaled deeply.

“Hey,” she responded while I sat beside her on the bed.

“I’m sorry—“

“You don’t need to apologize Autumn. I’m pretty sure you made yourself clear you wanted your space.” She cut me off abruptly.

“That’s not what I meant,” I quickly replied. “I don’t want any space from you. You’re my friend, the only one I can trust. It’s just,” I inhaled deeply. “I wish you could understand things from my point of view.”

She held my palm dearly with a tiny smile that didn’t live to see the next second.
