Aurielle Duvall

The air outside was quiet.

Too quiet.

I stood by the window of my hotel room, arms folded, watching the eerie stillness of Moonveil’s midnight streets. The curtains billowed gently behind me, stirred by the faint hum of the air conditioning. The town always looked deceptively peaceful at this hour. But peace was a lie here. I’d learned that the hard way.

I was just about to turn off the lamp and go to bed when I heard it—a knock.

Firm. Sharp. Way too confident to belong to someone from room service.

My body froze.

No one should be knocking at my door at this hour.

I stepped cautiously toward the door, peering through the peephole, only to be greeted by the very last face I wanted to see.

Nerissa.

My pulse jumped. I stared at her face through the narrow lens—painted lips, heavy eyes, and an expression that flickered between smug and unstable.

I slowly unlatched the safety chain, still uncertain if I should even entertain this chaos. Maybe she’d go away if I didn’t open

Aurielle DuVallCassiel needed to go into the council today for a meeting, and I agreed to accompany him. I can’t go into the main room where they’ll be having the conversation, so I decided to linger around the building. I avoided people who thankfully had no clue who I was. Cassiel said I could stay in his office here at the building, but he’s been in this meeting for thirty minutes now, so I’m walking. I got to the bottom floor via elevator. It was busy, it’s always busy here. The few times i showed up while trying to get my divorce done, i found that out. And the times cassiel brought me with him, it was even more busy at that time. I didn’t expect to see anyone i knew. But there she was. Matthias’s mother. Meriam Crowe. She was seated amongst a group of people waiting for their number to be called. I thought of just walking away since she hadn’t seen me, but I don’t have any problems with Meriam. No hate at all. She was a good person. Sure, she had wanted me to stay with Matth

Matthias CroweI walked around, monitoring what Nerissa was doing. She kept calling the company responsible for planning our engagement party. Saying one minute she didn’t want everything so white. Then, arguing that the cameramen focused too much on Aurielle. She was getting more and more upset by the minute. I never knew one person could reach this level of anger. She screamed after another call went nowhere. They told her the same thing. She signed the contract. They can do what they want with the pictures. And she needs to stop complaining about the ex-luna being all over the pictures. She was invited. Which was my fault. Fuck, I could have avoided half the drama had I not invited Aurielle. But then again, I wouldn’t have gotten to see her in that dress. I was once her husband. Once, the man she wanted to share a bed with. For once, can’t I just go back in time? I would get on my knees. Marry her properly. Treat her right. Throw all of Nerissa’s photos out. Kiss her each time

Aurielle DuVallI hung up and immediately went straight to the search bar on my phone. I typed out moonveil engagement party and came across the website as the first suggestion. I clicked on it, feeling Cassiel move closely towards me. He peered over my shoulder, placing a cup of tea next to me. Not close enough to leave a burn because it was hot. The website was nice, it had photos, videos, and a picture of everyone who was there. Now that I’m seeing the photos, I can say the white was not as bad as it looked in person. All white can work if all of the guys wear softer tone clothes instead of vibrant bright colors that make them look strange in the setting. And the outfits Matthias and Nerissa wore. It made me wonder what their wedding would look like when they’d already done all white for the engagement. Anyways, judgement aside, the issue and I’m guessing matthias’s reason for calling me was in the photos of me giving my gift to nerissa.Btw, the gift was a matching couple’s lo

Aurielle DuVallI woke up before Cassiel, which was a first for me. For a moment, my vision blurred, the edges of the room softening as though I had not quite returned from the dream world. My wolf stirred quietly inside me, calmer than she had ever been, a warm, silken feeling sliding over my body like a protective veil.I turned my head toward him. Cassiel lay perfectly still, his breathing deep and steady, his chest rising and falling in a rhythm that felt ancient, grounding. His features seemed sharper in the early light, carved with lines of strength and gentleness that made him look almost unreal. Peaceful. My heart tugged at the sight.I leaned closer until the tips of our noses brushed together. A flutter danced in my stomach, unexpected but sweet, and I let out a small sigh, careful not to wake him.I knew I needed to get up, to face the day waiting for me. Work had to be placed on hold, at least temporarily, while I took on this job with Matthias. Even before that, though,

Aurielle DuVallAfter dinner, I went upstairs to get ready for the night. My feet felt heavy on the steps, though my mind was already racing ahead. When I reached my room, I sat in front of the vanity, setting the brush in my hand before pulling it slowly through my hair. Each stroke was steady, mechanical, a way to quiet the storm building inside me.I stared at my reflection in the mirror, replaying today’s events over and over. Nerissa would not take humiliation lying down. I knew her too well for that. She would retaliate soon enough. Probably the next time she sees me. That much was certain. But I intended to strike first, to hit her where it hurt the most. I wanted to dig into her past and drag every secret into the light.I was almost sure she kept a journal, just as I did when I was younger. If she found mine at our parents’ house, then hers must be there too. The thought made my chest tighten. I had never once stepped inside Nerissa’s room, not in all the years we lived unde

Aurielle DuVall“Your sister takes you on this trip,” Cassiel began, his tone even, almost clinical, as if he were laying out a battle plan. “She has already devised a plan to fake her death and frame you for it. With a scheme like that, I doubt she ever intended on coming back. Let us assume she found someone who caught her attention. Someone who could give her exactly what she wanted without forcing her to waste time manipulating him at every turn.”I nodded slowly, following the thread of his reasoning. He had a way of weaving logic together so tightly that it left little room for doubt. Cassiel was not merely speculating; he was reconstructing Nerissa’s choices based on what I had told him about her, what he had learned of Matthias, and what he had extracted from those men who had tried to kill me. His mind was a net, and once he cast it, every detail was caught.“But,” Cassiel continued, his gaze steady on me, “she also found a way to keep tormenting you. Because in her mind, yo
