SARAH

Sofia rushed past me before I could move. She dropped to her knees by Marco’s bed, her hands already reaching for him, her voice too fast, too high.

“How could this happen? Who would dare? You were just at Delphini’s, Marco, just last night. How could it turn into this?”

She pushed back the hair from his forehead like it was hers to touch, then her hand moved down, brushing the bandage on his leg. Marco let out a grunt, sharp and low, but she didn’t stop. She kept moving, kept asking questions without waiting for an answer.

“Does it hurt too much? Who was it? Why didn’t anyone call me sooner? You shouldn’t be sitting up, you need to rest, you need—”

I stood frozen at the side of the bed, heat rising in my chest. She was too close, leaning into him, filling the space that belonged to me.

I stepped forward, opening my mouth, but Maddalena’s voice came from the door, smooth and sweet.

“She always had such a caring heart.” Her eyes went to Sofia with clear pride. Then she turned her

  • Owned By The Mafia Lord   Chapter 454

SARAHThe house felt quieter that evening. The noise from earlier had faded, the sharp voices gone, the tension from Sophia’s sudden appearance no longer shaking the walls. But it still lingered in me. Every step I took down the hallway carried that same weight, like the silence wasn’t really peace, just something holding its breath.I stopped outside Marco’s room. The door was half open, a sliver of warm light spilling out. Inside, I saw him sitting up against the headboard, his shoulders a little straighter than before. He still looked pale, still worn out, but not as broken as the day before. The sight of him awake, moving on his own, eased something in me I didn’t even know I was holding.A doctor stood by his side, packing his bag. He was muttering in Italian, short and sharp, telling Marco not to overdo himself. Marco answered him with a faint smirk, like he had no intention of listening.“You’re stubborn,” the doctor said as he snapped the bag shut. “Rest. No late calls, no str

SOFIAThe hum of the car grew louder in my head. At first, I thought it was just my nerves, but then I noticed the streets. They didn’t match the directions I gave. The turns were wrong. We should have been heading toward Bianca’s, but everything outside the window told me different.I leaned forward, my hand clutching my bag tight. “Daniel,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. “You’re going the wrong way. Turn back.”He didn’t answer. His hands gripped the wheel, firm, his eyes fixed straight ahead like he hadn’t even heard me.My chest tightened. I forced a small laugh, even though nothing felt funny. “Seriously, Daniel. You’re lost. You need to turn back.”Silence.My throat dried up. I hated silence more than shouting. At least shouting meant something. This… this emptiness made my stomach twist.“Daniel,” I snapped now, my voice sharp. “Are you deaf? I said you’re lost. Turn the car around.”His jaw moved slightly, clenching, but still no answer. The longer he stayed quiet, t

SOFIAI stormed out of the De Luca house with my chest on fire. My heels struck the stone steps too loud, but I didn’t care. Marco had humiliated me in front of Sarah. In front of Maddalena. He had looked me in the eye and told me to leave, as if I was no one. As if I hadn’t been the one by his side first.I gritted my teeth, shoving the thought down, but it stayed. How dare he keep choosing her. Sarah. That smug little face, sitting quiet, pretending she was fragile, when I knew she was eating every second of it. Marco defending her, Marco telling me to leave because of her. I could still see Maddalena’s smile shifting when it happened, the way her lips tightened. She was pleased to see me, pleased when I walked in, but I knew she wouldn’t stay pleased for long. I was running out of time, and she made that clear when she agreed to give me this chance. And now Marco had slammed the door in my face.I walked fast, almost running through the gates of the estate. The guards didn’t even l

SARAHThe morning light slipped in through the curtains, soft and pale, but it didn’t bring peace. My eyes opened heavy, my body still stiff from the fear of last night. For a moment I thought maybe it had been a nightmare, that the gunfire and the blood weren’t real. Then I turned my head and saw Marco. He was lying beside me, shirt half open, his thigh wrapped in a bloodstained bandage. His face was calm like he was only sleeping, but his chest rose and fell uneven, and I could see the tension around his mouth. Pain. He was pretending not to feel it, even in his sleep.“Marco,” I whispered, touching his arm.His eyes opened slowly, hazy from the long night. He gave me a weak smile. “Morning, bella.”I wanted to smile back, but the fear in me was too strong. “You should rest. Don’t move.”He pushed himself up with one hand, wincing. “If I lie here all day, I’ll feel worse. Besides, I’ve had worse than this. Just a scratch.”“A scratch?” I said louder than I meant. My hands went to hi

  • Owned By The Mafia Lord   Chapter 449

GUIDOThe room was dark, quiet, heavy with smoke. I sat at the head of the long table, a cigar burning low between my fingers. The ashtray in front of me was already full. I didn’t move much, only watched the door. I had been waiting, and they were late. My men always knew what that meant. The door creaked open. Nino walked in first, shoulders tense, his shirt sticking to him with sweat. His eyes darted around the room like a rat looking for a hole. Rocco followed, calm but stiff, his jaw tight. Olivia came last, her face collected, though I could see the way her eyes flicked toward me, gauging the mood. They stopped near the end of the table. None of them dared sit.I didn’t say a word. I leaned back, drawing slow from my cigar, and let the silence stretch. I could feel Nino fidgeting, his nerves making the air worse. That was the point. I let it choke him. Finally, he cleared his throat. “Boss… we went in, like you said. We had him in sight. Marco was there, the woman too.” His voic
