Chapter 3.

The sound of cars driving into the compound made everyone run to their respective posts. Carson stepped out from his car, which was opened by his driver.

His black suit shining radiantly under the sun and his expensive shoe screaming wealth, same as his wristwatch. He ran a finger into his silken brown hair before glancing around the place.

His secretary stepped out of the building and rushed to him. “Mr Carson,” he called excitedly while walking with a brown file in his hand.

“Bernard! It seems you have grown a bit old.” Carson teased while heading towards the building.

“Welcome back, boss. I heard you have been in town for a week now. How are you enjoying the city?” Bernard asked as he walked alongside Carson, whose concentration was on his phone as he walked majestically towards his office.

“Australia is nicer than I thought.” Carson replied plainly, before looking at Bernard.

They moved together into his office and Carson paused a bit like he was trying to examine the room. It seems a bit different for him, and he noticed the settings were changed. He tried to speak, but got interrupted by a call on Bernard's phone.

“Excuse me!” Bernard whispered and picked the call while moving away from Carson.

Carson Weston is a twenty-eight years old man who had taken over everything from his father as the legal heir of multi billion companies.

He was rude and arrogant no doubt and usually unfriendly, but the remarkable part was that he had a good heart.

He had taken over the manufacturing company from his father, but had traveled for a week to Australia and was finally back now.

Carson moved over to his chair and sat on it while looking at his table like something was missing. He didn't like the new setting of the room, and he had no idea who got the nerve to change it while he wasn't around.

Suddenly, a slight knock was placed on the door and Bernard walked in. “Boss, you have a meeting with Mr Karim from the oil and gas company. I had to postpone the meeting-”

“Who asked you to change the settings of my office, Bernard? I never complained about how it was.” Carson inquired with a harsh tone while interrupting what Bernard was saying like it doesn't mean a damn thing.

“I'm sorry, boss, I just wanted to impress you. I thought you would like the new setting. We had to hang a few portraits.” Bernard said slowly and lowered his gaze to the floor.

“Make me proud by postponing that meeting again. I'm not in the mood to see anyone today.” He ordered, and Bernard gasped with his eyes wide open.

“Sir, this man is a big shot. Collaborating with him will make our company stronger. Do you want to miss such an opportunity? Besides, we had to postpone the schedule the last time before you traveled.” Bernard said with concern and held his file firmly.

“I know, I know. Every company I own is also a big shot. Just do as I say, he will still call you to fix another date.” Carson whispered nonchalantly and crossed his legs.

Bernard swallowed the lump he felt in his throat and reluctantly nodded. He was left to deal with Carson's nonchalant attitude all the time. If not for Bernard, Carson would definitely lose a lot of clients who could partner with them and make the company grow more.

There and then, Carson's phone began to ring, and he picked it up immediately like he was expecting the person to call. “Hey! Please tell me you are at work.” His best friend questioned as he drove into his company.

“I am. Are you close by?” Carson asked curiously.

“Of course! I just drove into the building.” Owen replied and ended the call. After some seconds, Bernard knocked on Carson's door and informed him. “Mr Owen is here to see you, should I ask him to leave?” He pressed further.

“No! Why would you do that? Let him in.” Carson rushed his words and Bernard sighed before leaving. Shortly, Owen entered and Carson stood up swiftly from his chair.

“Hey man. Australia looks good on you.” Owen commented and gave Carson a side hug.

“How have you been? What are you up to lately, huh? Any new girl?” Carson teased his friend and laughed hard.

“Someone is acting like the saint here when you literally screwed every girl in the city.” Owen fired and Carson placed his hand on his chest while acting like he was hurt.

“Ouch! Not every girl, man. I have some decency compared to you. Besides, the girls keep throwing the ball at me.” Carson whispered and winked while relaxing back on his chair.

No doubt he was a player, he also didn't believe in love like people usually say. And most girls fall at his feet because he was handsome, rich, and hot.

And there was another player of the year, his best friend, who is also his partner in crime.

“Hey, what do you intend to do today? There is this new girl I saw at the club. Damn! She is fucking hot.” Owen praised, while demonstrating her figure with his hand, and Carson chuckled.

“Man! Calm down a bit. You're definitely becoming worse than I thought. How about the girl you met two weeks back at the ice cream store? Don't tell me you broke up already.” Carson inquired with his voice echoing with sarcasm.

“You know the rules, man. We don't fall in love, and she wanted more than it should be. I had to break it off.” Owen answered, without feeling remorseful for a bit.

“I see. So, who is the new girl now, huh? Because I know you haven't been single for a whole week. That's not possible.” Carson added and stared at his direction with a smile on his face.

“Hey! What do you take me for? Of course, I have been alone for the past week. That's why I need to get laid tonight.” He confessed and Carson laughed.

“Alright. So, when do we hit the club?” Carson questioned and peeped at his wristwatch.

“We go by 8pm. We still have a lot of time.” Owen spoke and relaxed on the chair he was seated in.

“I remember a girl you wanted to introduce me to a few years back. I think it was your second year in college and I thought that girl would be the one because you were totally not a man whore at that period. What's her name again?” Carson uttered and bit his bottom lip while trying to remember the girl's name.

“Why do you keep bringing up these memories, huh? Are we celebrating world ex's day?” Owen inquired in a frustrating tone.

Carson decided to change the topic, and they began to talk about random stuff. When it was 3pm, Carson decided to leave for the day. He had done nothing at the office and hadn't checked the file being arranged on his table.

He led the way while Owen followed him behind as they headed outside. Carson's two bodyguards rushed to him, but he stopped them.

“Take the cars back home, I will be driving with Owen. I will call you when I need a ride back home.” He voiced out authoritatively and they bowed before moving.

Owen hopped into the driver's seat and Carson joined in as they drove out of the premises.

None of them said a word to each other as they stayed in comfortable silence. “Let's go to your house, we can head to the club from there.” Carson suggested and Owen drove to his place.

“I had no idea the club had pretty ladies in it until that Friday I visited. The girl I was telling you about, she is a stripper. A sexy, hot lady,” Owen spoke, while the words rushed out of his mouth.

“Man, I need to see this girl. You have talked about her all day. Are you in love?” Carson questioned and scanned Owen's face.

“Me? In love?" He repeated and let out dry laughter. “That's not part of my policy, it is not part of the rules. Being in love makes one weak.” Owen muttered and continued driving, while Carson didn't utter a word.
