Elena
The charity gala was still being discussed online. I felt like a discarded shoe when I saw all the blessings and well wishes the two received.
What broke me more was a comment that Darcy and Ronan should just get married already.
“Dear, I’m so sorry; my boss just assigned me an impromptu client, so I can’t accompany you today. I’ll make it up to you, Elena. I’m truly sorry.” We haven’t seen each other in the past three years, and I was looking forward to having a good time with Nancy.
“It’s okay, Nancy. Take care of yourself. I’ll be fine here.” Being a busy lawyer was much better than being a desperate housewife trapped in marriage.
I was soon at a maternity and baby products store. The TV displayed pictures of babies and the various baby items available. It was so cute that I couldn’t help but walk in.
“Welcome, madam.” A cheerful sales attendant approached me with a contagious smile plastered across her face. I smiled unconsciously, getting pulled into her jolly mood.
Spotting those tiny clothes and shoes of unique designs and colors. I felt my heart swell with a strange emotion.
Blue and pink. Those were the dominant colors in the baby shop. It suddenly brought to mind a question I had never considered. “Little one, are you a boy or a girl?”
Would Ronan care if the baby turned out to be a boy or a girl? Pushing the bitter memories aside, I engrossed myself in the items displayed.
About an hour later, I stepped out of the maternity and baby shop with a few shopping bags in hand. Still immersed in the euphoria of seeing so many baby items all in one place. I paused in my tracks suddenly.
A tall and sturdy figure stood in a jewelry shop across from me. His back faced me, and I felt pulled towards him at once. It was Ronan, and I was about to call out to him when I noticed the detail I missed.
“Ronan, isn’t this beautiful?” I heard a sweet voice I could never mistake for another.
“Do you like it? Just pick anything you want.” Ronan lowered his head, his response the gentlest I have heard in a long time. His voice was so tender that my heart constricted in my chest. This gentleness was never for me, but only reserved for Darcy.
There she stood, in a blue and flair miniskirt with a white crop top. Darcy leaned so much into Ronan that it was as if she wanted to bury herself in his body.
“Aww, your husband dotes on you so much. You’re so lucky.” The shop assistant blurted out in admiration.
Husband?
I wanted to run away from the place, but my legs wouldn’t move.
“Bang!”
The bags suddenly fell from my hand, scattering the contents on the floor.
“Elena!” Darcy turned around and called out a little too loudly. “What a coincidence.”
I blinked back my tears, determined not to show them how hurt I was.
I bent down and clumsily picked up the items from the floor, hoping they would ignore me. However, fate had a different plan.
Ronan turned abruptly, and at that moment, I raised my head and locked gazes with him, albeit briefly.
“Elena, what’s wrong with you? You look pale.” Ronan was already in my face, helping to pack the items littered all over the floor. His scent wafted into my nostrils, and I choked back more tears.
“N-Nothing! I’m fine.” I spoke defensively, grabbing the remaining bunch of colorful baby books from the floor. I moved so quickly that Ronan couldn’t see what was written on them.
“Ronan, could you help me get a wheelchair? I feel I’m going to faint.” Darcy uttered weakly.
“Wait here. I’ll be right back.” Ronan suddenly looked flustered. He rushed in the opposite direction, after helping Darcy to settle on the bench at the waiting area.
“Now that Ronan is out of the way, we can talk freely, don’t you think?” Darcy’s sudden switch in temperament didn’t shock only me, but also the attendant who brought us coffee. She placed the cups down and stepped away awkwardly.
“I have nothing to say to you, Darcy.”
I was about to leave when she dared me. “What! You’re so terrified of me that you won’t wait for Ronan anymore?” I suddenly remembered Ronan telling me to wait for him as well.
What a joke! “You’re not scared of going shopping with my husband and misleading everyone into thinking he was your man. So, Darcy, why should I be afraid?”
I spoke a little louder, but I underestimated Darcy’s shamelessness. Despite the shocked and scornful gazes the attendant passed her, she suppressed her anger and forced a smile.
She reached into her bag and brought out a delicate jewelry box. “Guess what gift Ronan got for me?”
“If you’re just here to flaunt whatever gift my husband bought for you, then I’m not interested.”
As if taunting me, Darcy quickly opened the box, revealing an exquisite diamond ring that dazzled under the light. The ring was inlaid with a rare blue diamond.
“Blue Tears!”
I blurted out, my shock evident. This ring was one of the rarest and most expensive diamonds on the market, yet my husband got it so casually for Darcy as a birthday gift.
My nails dug deep into my palms until I felt them piercing through my flesh. However, I couldn’t feel any pain. I was numb to everything. Ronan’s assistant carelessly picked my excuse for a ring, yet I cherished it like a treasure. Even while doing laundry or cooking, I wouldn’t take it off.
What kind of joke was this?
“For the past three years, Simpson Group’s businesses in Europe were personally handled by Ronan. What do you think his reasons are?”
What! They have been meeting each other in secret? My face paled at Darcy’s words, and I couldn’t keep her out of my head. So, all those long business trips were because of Darcy?
“You think Ronan would have married you if I didn’t angrily leave for Europe and cut all contact with him three years ago?”
I hated that she was right. It felt like a thousand needles were piercing my heart at the same time.
Ronan, why are you so cruel to me?
“You wanted me to feel hurt, right? You’ve succeeded, Darcy. What else do you want?” I didn’t care about my image anymore. The pain was just too much to bear, so I allowed those tears to fall, hoping to feel a brief respite.
Darcy’s anger at my words was surprising; she was about to lash out, but everything changed in the next instant.
“Aah!”
Following Darcy’s scream, she emptied her cup of coffee onto her body, suddenly looking scalded and embarrassed.
“Darcy!” Ronan rushed toward her, his gaze dark.
‘D… Don’t blame her, Ronan. I understand why Elena feels I stole you from her. She’s your wife, after all.”
You must be kidding me! This bitch!
“You didn’t steal me from anyone, Darcy. Don’t say such ridiculous things. Elena had no reason to treat you this way.”
I felt so small when I heard Ronan’s words. He ignored my presence and was all over Darcy. After three years of marriage, I thought I meant something to my husband. Ronan didn’t even ask for my opinion or request to check the CCTV footage. Rather, he held Darcy’s underlying words like a decree.
“Apologize to Darcy right now!” He bellowed.
It hurt so much that I rushed out, not wanting to embarrass myself any further.

Darcy
I excused myself with the pretence of using the washroom, yet ended up tailing Elena but losing her. I wanted to remind the princess that her prince charming was in the palm of my hands.
Out of anger, I hit a waste bin in front, only to spot the bag Elena was holding earlier. After observing the content, I paled in shock.
“Impossible! Elena cannot be pregnant!”
I dialed a number on my speed dial, smiling meaningfully.
Not after all my sacrifices. Ronan is mine!
“Uncle Jasper, I need your help…”
Why should Darcy care if Elena was pregnant or not?
Elena “I heard Valerie is pregnant.” I informed Ronan in a jovial tone, allowing him to get the picture. He always said that Valerie made his children forget him whenever she was around. Now that she was coming back for good, Ronan’s mood was sure to plummet. As I was teasing my husband, I heard the cries of one of the triplets, and my heart skipped a beat. I was about to get out of bed when Ronan reminded me that I was in the room to take a nap. Aunt Delores said she would take care of them, so I left the kids with her and the nannies. I am really exhausted, but now that I’m on the bed, I can’t sleep. I’ve tried closing my eyes several times, but it still wouldn’t work. “Elena, you don’t want to sleep?” Ronan asked in a mischievous tone. He looked like a kid who’s favorite toy had been snatched from him. I know his worries. The kids turned three months old today, and Ronan had been living like a monk since they were born. He has been reading a lot lately, letting me know I wa
ValerieI finally made it back to Lockwood. That old fart wanted to keep me there for good. How dare he? “Hello, let’s meet at Palates Haven.” I was expecting this call as soon as the plane touched down. We’ve been in talks for the past four months, and I wouldn’t wish for a better time to have this talk than now.I found my way there without waiting at the airport for any car. I don’t wish to announce my presence here, anyway.“Sorry I’m late.” I apologized as soon as I got to the place. I was a few minutes late, after all. “It’s fine. I haven’t been here for long.” He responded, causing a smile to break out on my face.“David Spencer, you said you loved me. Please tell me why I should believe you.” I pushed a stack of documents toward him, and when he opened it, his eyes were wide like saucers. It’s not like I don’t return his feelings, but I needed something concrete. He had better choose his words carefully, because that is what would determine whether he lived or died today.
Elena Knowing it was Darcy, I realized I was worked up for nothing. What else did she spoil in the dark? Why didn’t I notice who she was sooner? Darcy Taylor… Hmmmm! The least said about you, the better. I couldn’t even hug Jackson without my stomach getting in the way. My friend from so many years ago. Then again, I’m happy for him. I’m glad he made it big. “Well, to add to the good news, I’d prep Mr Jones for a surgery in a month’s time. If he comes out successfully, he should be on the road to recovery. He would be up and about in six months. One year, maximum.” Jackson’s congratulatory message didn’t even sink into my head. All I could think about were his words. “You mean my father can walk again?” I had to ask again to be sure. My body trembled from so much excitement that I couldn’t control it. “Yeah! The doctors took good care of him. His physical fitness is top notch. They just d’t know where to look to make him better. I bet they already gave up on him at a point,
JacksonElena Jones in the flesh. She hasn’t changed a single bit. The years have really been kind to her, and she still looked as much in love with Ronan Simpson as she was a decade ago. She’s even carrying his child. If I had known she was the patient’s family member, I would have run here to sort things out long ago. How could I ever repay her kindness in this lifetime? “You two know each other?” I didn’t know if I should say yes or no to this question. Which would she prefer?“Yeah, Jackson, tell my Uncle. Do we know each other?” Elena’s reaction is too confusing. Could it be the pregnancy hormones or what? She wasn’t supposed to get angry with me. I was the one who got hurt by her words and inactions. “I should be angry with you, Elena. Not the other way around. Why are you playing the victim? You know what, how about we let this slide, for old time’s sake?” I didn’t want to push this any further. Elena is one of my benefactors I could never cease to acknowledge. No matter wh
Elena The meal went by in a jolly mood, as everyone chatted lightly. I couldn’t keep out of it, as random questions were thrown to me now and then. I felt lightheaded throughout the meal, but tried to hold it in, so I wouldn't scare anyone. Halfway through, I couldn’t take it anymore. “Excuse me.” I stood up anruptly, headed for the washroom, but before I could take up to three steps, I was consumed by darkness. I couldn’t even resist in the slightest. “Elena,” Ronan’s crazed voice sounded in my ears. I couldn’t tell why, but he started crying and begging me not to leave him. I guess Ronan carried me to the room, because I woke up in his bed. When I tried to move, my head felt so heavy, but it was still bearable. When I tried to lift my hand to my head and massage my forehead a little, I felt a weight on my hand. Looking toward the direction, I noticed Ronan holding my hand firmly. As soon as I tried to wriggle out of his hold, he also stirred awake. It was already nightfal
Ronan I was reliably informed that Elena was to make a journey to the old mansion today. As a result, I came to support her. This occasion was supposed to be a family dinner, yet, Elena wasn’t here-so was dad. I could tell those two were up to something again in Dad’s study room. The old Roman would have flared up, accusing Elena of telling tales to my father. However, I finally realized I was just living like the fool I was supposed to be. I walked toward the study, only to meet it half closed. “Uncle Simpson, please, let my Dad go.” What! Why would Elena want to remove the life support? She gave up on her father after so many years? “What if I say I don’t agree?” My words were unexpected, but I had no plans of allowing her to do this. I believe Uncle Jones can be saved. “Doctor Fischer is still working on inviting that specialist he spoke about. We would double our efforts and bring him in. Can you wait till he arrives? Let’s make a decision after his diagnosis, okay?” E
