VENUS

There’s silence from the other side and then I hear her soft sigh. “Venus, sweetheart, it’s nothing. You don’t need to—”

“Mom.” My voice hardens, cracking at the edges. “Please. Don’t lie to me.”

There’s another pause, then she responds. “Yes, it happened again.”

My chest caves. I have seen what my brother went through closely, how his body trembled when that darkness within him tore him apart. He’s one of the strongest Alpha wolves I know but at those times he looks so broken, having no control over his wolf.

Mom’s voice softens. “Don’t worry. We have it under control. He’s sleeping now and he’ll be fine.”

“I can come back,” I blurt. “I can help him. You know I can—”

“No.” Her tone hardens. “It’s too dangerous. His outburst has drawn rogues to the borders.”

My blood runs cold. “What?”

“I’ve already strengthened the borders with my powers,” she says quickly. “They won’t get in. We’re safe. You need to focus on yourself. Stay where you are.”

I press my lips together, figh

VENUSBronze looks at her.I can’t read his expression. It’s twisted into something ugly, caught between rage and surrender. His throat works as he swallows. When he speaks, his voice is hoarse. “It’s protocol. You’re our prime suspect. You’ll have to remain in this pack.”My heart stutters.“Unless,” he adds in a lower, more threatening voice, “you want to break the law and be punished for it.”My eyes widen in horror.Just moments ago, he was defending me. Standing up for me. Now he’s repeating her words like they are his own. What just happened? My gaze drops to Mallory’s hand resting on his. Is this the mate bond? Is that what this is?My parents are mates too. I’ve seen how it works. My mother influences my father, yes, but it never erases his judgment. It never strips him of his own thoughts. Sometimes they argue and disagree on several important matters when it comes to the pack administration. But Bronze didn’t even hesitate to just take Mallory’s side. Why would he suddenly

VENUS“That’s false,” I say immediately. “I never tried to harm her. Not once. I was attacked multiple times at this camp. You can’t seriously label me a criminal because of this.”Elder Gonalz exhales slowly. “You’re right. We are not declaring you guilty of anything.”Relief flickers for half a second.“But,” he continues, “we cannot ignore this matter. Lives are at risk, and repeated incidents involving trainees are damaging the pack’s reputation.”My hands clench in my lap.“Therefore,” he says, “you will remain suspended from the camp. In addition, you will be placed under watch, every single day, for twenty four hours.” The words sink in slowly, painfully. My face goes cold. They’re not locking me up, but this feels just as suffocating. Every move I make will be watched, and everything I say will be heard. Worse, it can be used against me. If I randomly cuss someone out of rage, they can declare that as my intention of hurting that person. At this point, anything can happen.

VENUSShock ripples through me at his response. I stare at Bronze, my heart pounding. His expression remains stoic and unreadable for me, but relief washes over me anyway. Someone is finally saying it out loud. And the fact that it’s Bronze doing this makes my chest ache in a way I am not prepared for. It puts my emotions at conflict. I was prepared to hate him, believing he wouldn’t say anything that will be in my support. But now he is and that makes me feel surprised. A kind of surprise that leads to hope. Gonalz frowns. “Even if she possesses such an ability, it does not prove that Venus did not attempt to harm her. Most instances still point in that direction.”Bronze’s gaze hardens. His voice deepens, and he radiates his Alpha aura as he speaks again.“What instances, exactly?” he asks. “Did the council consider the repeated bullying Venus endured from Olivia and her friends at the camp?”The room stills and I swallow the lump in my throat. “Most of the arguments and altercat

VENUS“I can’t change it now,” he says, more like he’s reminding both of us of the poor fate that has left us helpless. “But I want to put everything behind us.”I do not know what to say.A part of me wants that too. Desperately. I am tired of carrying this hurt everywhere I go. But another part of me still bleeds from his betrayal. I still remember how easily I was replaced.I open my mouth to respond. The door to the meeting room swings open.Simon steps out, his sharp gaze moving between us before settling on Bronze. “The elders are waiting,”he states. Bronze nods and gestures for me to go in first. I walk past him and enter the room. The elders are already seated around the table. Their expressions are serious and expectant as usual. Just as I anticipated, Mallory is there too.Unlike the other times, her gaze lands heavily on me. One that feels threatening. Elder Gonalz gestures for me to sit.I take the chair, my movements slow and careful, a sense of dread already settling d

VENUS“T-that could be possible. But when he—,” she clears her throat, as if careful not to hurt me, “when that incident happened, the full moon period was just starting. It’s usually not that strong at that time since it’s just being initiated.” I purse my lips, feeling a tad bit disappointed. A part of me hoped that I could blame it on the full moon for whatever he did. That way I would find it easy to forgive him. To believe what he told me. “Are you okay?” Sydney asks, watching me with concern filling her eyes. After that incident, Bronze never came to check on me. Not at the hospital, not at the packhouse. I did not see him at all. Not even for once. Even though I broke up with him for cheating on me, a part of me still aches. It hurts that he does not check on me at all.Like I do not matter to him anymore.I nod. “Yeah,” I exhale. “Totally.” —-------------------------------------------I lie on my bed, staring at the ceiling, but my mind refuses to rest. The white wolf’s

VENUSI take a slow breath and look at Rowan. “It was Mallory,” I mutter, pressing my lips in concern. “She’s the one who let those wolves into the pack. One of them was a white wolf.”His expression hardens instantly. “You do not need to worry about that,” he assures me. “I am already investigating this.”I shake my head. “We are all in this together. No matter what you say, Mallory has it out for me now. She knows I’m suspicious of her.”He frowns. “How is that possible?”I hesitate, then decide there is no point hiding it. “Before everyone arrived, I confronted her in the woods. She was hiding and watching me. I didn’t have a choice.”Rowan exhales and runs a hand through his face. His eyes turn cold, sharp, like he is piecing together a puzzle I cannot see.“You need to be more careful,” he warns me. “If Mallory knows, that means you will be watched.”“I know,” I reply, nodding my head. “But you won’t have to deal with that.”He smirks slightly, as if he knows something he is not
