I duck my head, unsure of what to say. So he was doing this to get Bronze jealous. The thought is comforting but also sort of disappointing.

“Thanks. But I’m okay.” I give him a smile.

He smiles back. “You looked like you needed a little…distraction.”

My lips press into a grim line before I mutter. “I guess I did.”

He studies me quietly, the smile slipping from his handsome face. His hand slides a little higher on my waist. Not in a pushy or creepy way. But more like protective.

“You seem kind of sad whenever he’s around.”

I stiffen slightly. Alex’s voice is soft, but his eyes are sharp. He’s not pushing, but he’s watching me closely.

“That obvious?” I ask, hoping that I can hide somewhere. Rowan told me that too. Guess I’m terrible at hiding my emotions.

Need to work on that.

    VENUSThe shrill cry of the alarm drags me out of sleep. I blink groggily, the ceiling unfamiliar for a second before my mind catches up.
