Selina's POV.

My heart did a double flip as Declan walked into the room. He had a warm smile on his face.

I couldn't help but wonder if the smile would still remain intact after I've broken the news of my condition to him.

Nonetheless, I had no choice left, Mary said he hated dishonest people and the last thing I wanted was for him to see me that way. I needed to tell him before he finds out. Pregnancy isn't something that could be hidden for a long time.

"Good morning, Alpha Declan," I tried to smile through my tensed state.

"It's always good to see you, Selina,"

I tried to hide my blush but it was an epic fail. I couldn't stop grinning sheepishly. Declan is a charming man. He knew the right words to use at the perfect time. He reminded me so much about Malik despite how hard I tried to forget, Malik was my perfect lover but I guess not everything good comes to stay.

"Here, have this," he handed a package to me, he always did that whenever he came visiting.

"Thank you," I dropped i

Eva's POV.I held on tightly to Nicklaus’s hand, leading the way toward Bonnie’s house, it was dark in the night. Every step I took made my heart beat faster, a simmering anger I hadn’t felt in a long while building slowly beneath my ribs. The image of that little girl’s tear-streaked face kept replaying in my mind. A child shouldn’t carry such burdens. She shouldn’t know what abandonment or hunger felt like, not at her age.Nicklaus, walking beside me, was unusually quiet, though I could feel the way his energy bristled beside mine, we didn’t say much as we walked through the gravel path I made sure to remember. We arrived at the small, rundown cottage that Bonnie had pointed out earlier, I had hoped to find him there... Bonnie’s father. Part of me prayed he’d be lounging about, with his mistresses, unaware of what was coming. But the place was deep silent.I glanced around. The door hung ajar, swaying gently in the breeze. No sound came from inside. I stepped forward, pushing it op

Eva's POV. By the time I got to the training hall, the warriors had just finished eating. Most were scattered on the floor, resting under the cold tiled floor, chatting quietly or cleaning their weapons. It was a rare moment of calm for them. And there he was. My husband, Nicklaus. He was seated in a slightly shaded corner near the sparring dummies, his dark hair clinging to his forehead with sweat as he focused on repairing a sword. His shirt clung to his skin, dirt and sweat smudging across his arms and chest, yet somehow, he still looked like a king sculpted from desire itself. My king.He didn’t even need to look up to know I was there. The moment our eyes met, his entire face lit up. That smile… the one that could unravel every wall I’d ever built in my life.“Eva,” he murmured, setting the sword aside, then stood, towering and broad and utterly mine. “Come here.”Without a second thought, I walked straight into his open arms, sighing softly the moment he wrapped them around me

Eva's POV.“We’re home, Mama,” she called out softly as we walked in.The inside was a bit dark, only one of the two windows was open, letting in weak sunlight in. My heart skipped a beat when I saw her.Laid out on the worn-out mattress, her body unmoving except for the slow, labored rise and fall of her chest. Her hair was damp, probably from a fever. Her skin looked pale and dry. And the hollow beneath her cheekbones was obviously from hunger strikes.“Oh my goodness…” I whispered, rushing over to the bed.She stirred at the noise and slowly peeled open her eyes. Her gaze met mine, and confusion flickered in her expression.“My lady?” she croaked, trying to sit up. Her voice was dry. “What… what brings you here? Did Bonnie…? Did she do something wrong?”“No, no, please don’t get up.” I placed my hand gently on her shoulder, guiding her back to rest. “Bonnie did nothing wrong. I saw her crying earlier, that’s all. She told me a little bit of what’s been going on.”The woman... slim

Eva's POV.I balanced the tray of hot, well-packaged food in my hands while two maids followed behind, each carrying their share of trays. Nicklaus had been training seriously with the new warrior recruits for the past three days, and I’d taken it upon myself to ensure he and the others had proper meals. He’d never asked, but I knew how he got when he was focused, he’d forget to eat, rest, or even breathe if someone didn’t remind him.We were almost at the training hall when a soft sniffle made me stop. It came again... a child’s cry, soft and shaky, like someone trying not to be heard but too overwhelmed to manage it. I turned slightly and looked to the corner of the path where the sound was coming from, and that’s when I saw her.A little girl, probably no more than six or seven, was crouched beside the hedge, her arms wrapped tightly around her knees. Her dusty brown dress was wrinkled, and her cheeks were stained with dried tears. She was trying to wipe her face with the edge of

Eva's POV.We walked hand in hand under the early evening sky as we made our way home from the elders’ chambers. I couldn’t stop thinking about the way he looked at me when I spoke for him back there. He was surprised, no... stunned, more like. And then proud; It warmed me in places I didn’t even know could feel warmth. My thumb gently traced the back of his hand as we walked. He gave it a little squeeze in response, the smallest of gestures, but one that sent a rush of something sweet through my chest. But just as we approached the corner before the main path to the mansion, the air seemed to change, and it wasn't long before I noticed why. It was him.Aragorn. Leaning casually against one of the trees nearby, his arms crossed over his chest like he was waiting for us.Nicklaus tensed beside me, his grip tightening just slightly, but enough for me to notice.“Well, well,” Aragorn’s voice rang out, slow and mocking. “What’s this? A stroll after a private meeting with the elders? Wi

Eva's POV.I'd been taking long strolls every evening since I got my wolf, making up for all the time I spent locked away inside the house, hiding from the world and its vicious whispers. Now, the whispers no longer pierced me. They couldn’t. Not when I had finally broken through the one thing that held me back.I was just returning from one of those walks when I spotted him Nicklaus. He stood just outside the house, dressed in a simple black shirt that hugged his torso a little too perfectly, as though it had been designed with only him in mind, and the look in his eyes when they settled on me made my heart flutter in the exact same way it did the first time he ever touched me.“There you are,” he blurted. “I was just about to leave.”I tilted my head. “Leave? Where to?”“The elders summoned me for a meeting.” He shrugged lightly.A meeting?“Can I come?” I asked almost immediately, curiosity sparking in me.He looked at me for a moment, then smiled. “Of course, I was waiting for you
