Chapter 8. Diamond necklace

But apparently, Angelina had to feel disappointment again when she saw Malic sitting in the waiting room. Angelina was too confident; Axton wanted to see her.

"Malic, it's you," Angelina said, her voice hoarse with disappointment.

"Have a seat, Mrs. Angelina."

"No, I'll just stand," she said.

"The great lord Axton has withdrawn all criminal reports and exempted you from punishment. The great master also asked me to pick up Mrs. Angelina," Malic explained.

Angelina was surprised to hear Malic's explanation. Without giving Angelina a chance to defend herself, Axton was so willing to forcibly enter her into a list of criminal records for something she had never done at all. Then, after 14 days, Axton retracted the report and released her from punishment. What game were they playing? Angelina was sick of living a life full of theatrics, like a drama movie.

"Why didn't he pick me up himself?"

"The big lord is having a meeting with investors, so he ordered me to bring Mrs. Angelina to the office."

With Angelina's disheveled appearance, how could she possibly go to the office to meet her husband and business partners? There she was making a fool of herself.

Without another word, Angelina joined Malic in the car Malic had brought to pick her up. Malic drove with focus while Angelina sat in the back seat.

Angelina felt uneasy; she saw that her appearance was not very good. Axton would definitely be more angry with her if she came dressed like a maid.

"Malic, do you have any money?" asked Angelina, trying to engage him in a discussion.

"I... I want to buy some new clothes. I can't go to my husband's office in these tattered clothes. Can I borrow your money? When I go home, I promise to return it immediately."

"You may, Ms. Angelina. But my money won't be enough to buy expensive branded clothes."

"No problem, Malic. I only need a few pieces of clothing. It won't eat up all your savings."

After getting Malic's debit card, Angelina asked him to find a clothing store located on the edge of the city. She was worried that if they had to go to a mall or a big outlet, Malic would not have enough money.

They tried several times to enter a clothing store, but because the prices were not suitable, they did not buy anything and returned to look for a cheaper store.

Then, Malic recommended his wife's favorite clothing store, and Angelina agreed. The two of them went straight to the place.

About ten minutes later, they arrived at the clothing store. Angelina immediately chose some clothes to try on first, wanting to make sure of her appearance and which clothes were suitable before she paid for the items she wanted to buy.

Angelina took two outfits to try on. The first outfit was a gray knee-length cotton skirt with a plaid shirt top. When she saw her appearance in the reflection of the glass, Angelina felt that the clothes were not suitable for going to her husband's office. Angelina also tried on another set of clothes, and it seemed that she would take the second outfit: black trousers and a simple plain white top.

"Two hundred dollars," said the store cashier, asking for the bill.

Angelina immediately paid using Malic's ATM card. After that, she returned to the car.

"Malic, I'm returning your ATM card. Thank you for helping me," Angelina said as she held the thin object forward.

"Glad I could help you, Mrs. Angelina," Malic replied.

The car was soon on its way to the office.

Although the clothes bought earlier were only simple, the clothes she was wearing now were much better than before. They restored her confidence a little.

Malic's car arrived at a large parking lot next to a tall office building that towered into the sky.

The hot sun made the huge Almero Group company logo sparkle, looking clean and luxurious. Angelina smiled happily; it had been a long time since she had visited and experienced the atmosphere of her husband's family office.

Angelina stepped slowly towards the automatic glass door. Instantly, the glass door opened when Angelina was about one meter away.

How surprised she was to see the scene inside when the door was wide open!

At the far end of the room, Moreen and Axton stood side by side, facing a long, square table that sat in the center of the room, with employees standing to the left and right.

The abundance of delicious-looking food on the table and several types of drinks added to the celebratory atmosphere.

It looked like the office lobby had been transformed by Axton to surprise Moreen. For whatever reason, the man gave Moreen a gift.

Axton proudly placed a diamond necklace around Moreen's neck and received a standing ovation from the employees who were watching.

A big, happy smile spread across her beautiful lips. Moreen felt like the luckiest woman in the world to be with a man like Axton.

"I'm so jealous of Mrs. Moreen; look at her getting a luxurious gift from Mr. Axton in the form of diamonds that cost a fantastic price from a famous jeweler in the world. And the diamond necklace is a limited edition," commented one of the employees standing not far from the lobby door.

Angelina's ears were not deaf. She heard all the words. Axton gifted Moreen an expensive piece of jewelry, while she, who had been in a three-year marriage with Axton, had never been privileged.

Angelina's heart felt tight, like it was being ripped apart by a sharp samurai sword. Is this what Axton wanted to show her to make her come to the office? Wasn't he content to hurt her?

Then everyone's eyes were distracted, surprised to see the arrival of Angelina, who was still standing there.

"Honey, do you see Angelina? Did you invite her to the office on purpose?" Moreen asked Axton. Moreen's happy face had now turned gloomy.

"No, I didn't invite her!" Axton shook his head quickly.

"Did Angelina deliberately want to humiliate me in front of all the staff here? She really wants to destroy me, Axton." Moreen sulked, immediately releasing Axton's hand. Then she walked quickly to separate herself from the crowd of people there.

Axton wanted to chase Moreen, but she had already entered the elevator. And now the target of his anger was Angelina.

Axton walked emotionally towards where Angelina was standing. Then roughly grabbed Angelina's wrists, then dragged her out of the office. Angelina's steps were a little shaky, overwhelmed by balancing Axton's fast walking legs, until she almost fell.

"Axton, where are you taking me?" asked Angelina frantically.
