CHAPTER 26

KAHLAN AND DAMON

I found myself back in Damon Meir's office. His green eyes stared into my face, as I looked back at him. There was an awkward. I cleared my throat.

"Sooo?" He straightened himself up in his giant chair, as if he were trying to figure out how to get the ball rolling today. As I waited, I thought about Damon apologizing. I mean, he did it so much to Tina, but I, the actual patient, wouldn't get a sorry. "So, lets start simple today," Damon finally started, "I know yesterday was hard, and I am going to take full responsibility for that. I do apologize." That's what I wanted, among a list of other things, like walking out the door and never coming back.

"It's fine," I replied. "Its not like I was making it easier on you." He gave a soft smile.

"So, we are agreeing to start over. Begin a friendship?" A friendship? Why did it feel like I would be making a commitment if I said yes? God, why did I have to overthink everything?

"I don't really have another choice," I said
