Season : My mate is a liar

PROLOGUE

“Mating season…” the lady in her young thirties began. The 9 year old girl wiggles up against her mother , trying to be as close as possible in her mother’s warmth. The light in her teddy bear infested room begins to dim , making the atmosphere of the room a warm and cosy one. Her father – big and strong – walks from the door frame to his to precious girls tucked in , in bed. He scoots in with them , pulling both of them towards him and wrapping his huge arms around them both. Their heads lay on his strong chest – here they are protected and safe.

“Mating season…a beautiful wonderful creation that was built upon heartache and pain…” the woman begins.

“What do you mean , mama?” the child question’s her mother.

“Do you know what mating season is , baby?” the woman askes her innocent child.

“Yes…My teacher said that we will meet our husbands or wives on that day…” she mumbles out embarrassed of the thought of love and marriage. She hears her both parents chuckle at her innocence.

“ She does have a point…” her father deeply chuckles. There is a few moments of comfortable silence , as the little family just cuddles with each other.

“Long ago…long before even your father and I were born – there was this beautiful angelic girl named Diana…” the woman speaks in a calm yet serious voice , to which the father and his daughter listened intently to.

 “…Every girl in her village envied her beauty and her tenderness…and all the men…” she giggled.

“…All the men wanted to be with her and make her their wife – however , she did not seem to be easily swept of her feet. Many had tried , but she would just politely tell them that she did not see them more than a friend. Eventually , she began to hate gatherings or going in to public spaces because she would be bombarded with gifts , promises and love confessions…”

“Wow…she must have been extremely beautiful…” the little girl exhales in awe and amazement.

“ I doubt it…No one can be as beautiful as my two girls…” her father says with joking sternness in his voice , making them both giggle.

“She was very beautiful…But as I was saying , she started to like being alone and going on adventures by her self because it was quiet and she felt free. From all the places she would reside at , her most favourite of places was at a cliff – it was no ordinary cliff , when she stood at the cliffs edge she could see her village and all of it’s land. She never went out there during the day , but at night when the moon was big and bright , and it’s light shone on all of the land…”

“Wow…” father and daughter exhale in unison , making the woman smile at how alike the both are.

“One night when she made her way up there , she notices that she was not the only one there basking at the beautiful scenery – she instantly falls in love when the mysterious man turns around to look at her. There was some thing different about him , something that made her heart pound by just looking at him. People say that when she touched him , she could feel sparks and when she was near him she was engulfed by his scent of rainfall and soil. They began to meet every night , just so that they could be together with out any one being around…”

“Awww…” the father and daughter duo sounds out.

“How ever , what they did not know was that , not only had her beauty attracted human men but jealous lustful Gods – specifically the God of lust  , Eros. Every night , Ero’s would sit on the moon and watch her on the cliff how ever , now he sees the lovers. With each night that passes , his heart grew more and more jealous as he watched her lover place kisses on her lips and hug her closely…”

“Ewwww…” the immature child says in disgust when hearing about adult love , which makes her parents laugh at her innocence.

“Now…God’s were not allowed to come down from the heavens and walk on earth , and if they did they would be cursed. One night when the moon was big and bright , and Ero’s could no longer take the sight of the girl he loved most be with another that he jumped off the moon. With a loud crash , he landed on earth in front of the two lovers. Before his curse could be placed upon him , he used the last of his powers to place a curse on the two lovers. He turned Diana’s lover in to a beast – half wolf , half man. How ever , Diana still loved him as she loved him for him and not what he looked at. Ero’s grew furious at her stubbornness , and at the last second of the disappearance of his powers  , he made her a Goddess – the moon goddess. He imprisoned her on the moon , giving her his remaining powers. He had known that with her limited powers , she could not bring herself to earth – and therefore she would be trapped there , away from her lover.”

“Oh my…” the little child says totally engrossed in what her mother was saying.

“After that night , her lover would come to the cliff and howl sadly at the moon in his wolf form. One night he landed under the stars , missing the touch of Diana until he sees a star falling towards him. That star bursts in to tiny pieces and falls on to his fur – this was in fact a gift from Diana , which had used up most of her powers. Her gift made him stronger and  increased his senses. As soon as he had grown stronger , he sniffed the air for Ero’s. When he had found him , he bite him thinking that would be enough to kill him – so he just left him there to die a slow painful death…”

“Good, he deserves it!” the little girl jumps in her parents arms in victory.

“Years later , the first ever werewolf still came by the cliff every day to howl at the moon. With her remaining powers she sends yet another star dust which will allow him never to be lonely again. She had gifted him a mate – some one who was meant for him , some one who he would be able to make out in any crowd as he would be able to smell her unique scent stronger than others , feel his heartbeat racing when she is around him and feel electric sparks when they touch. During the season of winter , he finds his mate and totally forgets about Diana. Some say she prefers it that way , so she does not have to see her lover die in sadness….Mating season is when werewolves find their mates , which is a gift from our moon goddess to us.” The woman finishes her story.

“Mama?” the small girl speaks up.

“Hmmm?” the woman contently sounds out while snuggling deeper in to the warm of her mate and child.

“How did more werewolves come about?” the child asks.

“What do you mean?” the father questions his daughter. She pulls away from her parents and sits on her pink duvet and faces them.

“The moon goddesses lover was the first werewolf , so that means there were no werewolves before him. How did we come about when his mate was a human and he had been a werewolf?” she asks folding her arms.

“We made a smart girl , don’t you think?” her mother smirks to the girl’s father as he nods his head in agreement.

“ We will tell you that when you are older…” her father tells her , reaching out to her and pulling her closer to them. The little girl fussed and squeaked at her parents hugging her and cuddling her , but deep down she felt so much love from their irritation.

That night , when the happy family – who was so different yet almost the same as other humans slept in peace in the arms of their loved ones. How ever , the unfinished story that both parents refused to tell the innocent young girl , was the most important part that needed to be told.

As the moon goddess looks down on her children – the werewolves – her heart seemed especially  fond of that little girl.  She kicked at the moon stones , frustrated at the girl’s parents for not telling the whole story – after reading the timeline of this little girl , Diana knows that this little girl needs to know the end of that story more than any one in this entire world.

 For Ero’s , was cursed with reincarnation...

....and was very much alive....
