Amy's pov
His calloused palm brushed my cheek, wiping away another tear as he spread my legs like butter.
“Take a deep breath bunny, it's going to be a long night.” I collapsed my head back on the pillow and wondered how I had one of the deadliest men in the country between my legs.
Then my mind as if to answer that question pulled my memory back to over a month ago where it all started.
••••••••
“I swear on my grandma's ashes Amy, this time-”
I cut my boyfriend off with a deep frustrated sigh as I wiped the counter with one hand and held my phone with the other.
“No, Jeremy…” I lowered my voice even though no one could hear me over the loud speakers,”Things are finally going right for us, by next month we'll move into a real apartment in a nice part of town there's no need to risk it.”
Finally, I wouldn't have to thread the streets that were lined with gangsters and hoodlums.
“I just need that five grand, baby. Forget that tiny apartment, we'll have a house of our own!”
I stopped whipping, fingers curling around the rag.
Jeremy had always been a dreamer, that's part of the reason I fell in love with him.
But things change when you are no longer a starry eyed college student and you find out dreams don't pay student debt.
Ever since we graduated, Jeremy has turned down every job offer he gets; “I'm just waiting for the right one to give you the life you deserve.” He said as he rotted away on my couch.
“Jeremy, the inheritance money from my grandma might be our only ticket out of the trenches. I'm not going to let you waste it on your gambling especially when you never win.”
He went quiet.
“Fine, forget it! Ignore your loser boyfriend who's good for nothing,” he said dramatically, ending the call.
I put my phone away as a customer approached, but I was uneasy.
My last shift ended and I went to give my boss my final farewell.
“Are you sure about this Baker?” He inquired doubtfully, “if you want a raise, we can…”
“No, it's fine.” I replied politely, there was no way I'd be able to commute from my new residence down here. It would just be easier to get a new job.
I stepped out of the club feeling lighter than a feather.
Just a month ago, I was drowning in arrears of rent and sharing ramen with Jeremy. Now we were about to move to a real apartment where the roof didn't leak and the walls weren't paperthin.
Nothing, and I mean nothing could ruin this.
“Baby faster! faster!!”
I froze outside our bedroom door, our apartment was just about the size of a shoe box and I could hear everything.
My boyfriend's moans mingled with strangers, their rugged breathing and our rickety bed crying out.
I took a rib lift of air and went over to the living room, dropping on the couch trying to remain calm as my heart raced.
Ten minutes of the entire apartment shaking to the rhythm of their lovemaking and my boyfriend walks into our living room with a stranger. He pretends not to see me and gives her a big wet kiss as a parting gift.
“Seriously?” I stood up and crossed my arms, “Didn't we both agree to close our relationship?”
He grunted something and walked over to the coffee table to grab the remote, “Will you ease up? We said we'd start after we moved. Why are you overreacting?”
“Overreacting?” I spat back at him.
“Yes, you're acting crazy as if our relationship has not been open for years now.”
My heart sank as his words forced me to recall the night he sat me down with an ultimatum.
“I want to open our relationship.” He went into a deep rehearsed speech about how that was going to spice up our sex life. He'd been my first for everything but he was a notorious playboy when I met him.
At first I disagreed, but he pressured me until I finally gave in.
Funny enough he was so jealous that if I laughed in the direction of another guy he would immediately lose his marbles but he paraded different girls into our apartment, the apartment that I paid for.
But now that we were getting a fresh start I decided to finally stand my ground.
He had surprisingly agreed with arguing, I didn't know he planned to just keep sleeping around anyways.
“But we discussed…”
“And I decided to ignore you, just like how you ignored me when I asked you for the money.”
My brow furrowed, I reached for his shoulder tilting my hand upwards.
“Jeremy, is that what this is about?”
He didn't respond but his lips drew out into a tight line and I was about ready to slam my head into a wall.
“Jeremy, don't you want to leave this neighborhood? Finally sleep somewhere that you're not scared of being robbed or mugged?”
He pulled away from my touch, gigging into his hair and screaming.
“Whatever, I finally see it. You don't love me, you just stay with me because it's comfortable..”
He walked over to a wall and started descending one punch after another, “I'm useless…worthless…”
“No, Jeremy!” I grabbed his arm, checked his knuckles and they were already bleeding.
It felt like his punches had been aimed directly at my heart and not the wall.
“F-fine..” I said in a strangled voice, “I'll give you access to the account, but it'll be just one game-”
He swooped me off the floor peppering my face with kisses.
“I love you, Amy…” he said, laying me on the same bed where he had just been intimate with another woman, her perfume still lingering in the air.
But I didn't want to complain, didn't want to break the spell of the moment.
Everything is going to work out, we'll move and in a few more weeks we'll be looking at ring sizes. In some years we'll have little ones running around (we'd even picked out their names) that's right, nothing can go wrong.
Amy's POVHis consciousness slipped away, right after his voice after that the only thing that broke the silence was the mechanical his from the oxygen monitor and the constant mumbles behind the door from his soldiers words being exchanged right over my head their footsteps constantly thumping causing a headache that was so severe it felt like they were stomping directly on my head.I was massaging the back of Antonio's hand his grip now loosen on mine, my heart finally steadying into a normal pace, I looked at his face the closest to rest I had ever seen him he was always doing something always occupied always needed somewhere it was almost sad that the only time he had rest was when he was dancing the thin line between life and death. As my heart was calming down, my mind was in chaos. His unexpected confession flashed with what I knew about him what I had accepted he was as a man. I was attracted to him both of us and anyone who had spent more than 5 seconds with us in the same r
Amy's POVMadam Loretta’s face tightened. "She is a distraction! She""Can stay by his side and warm up his bed. That’s her job, isn't it?" Ravenna interrupted. "I don’t see why waking up to a pretty face would do anything other than help."Loretta’s whole body shook, looking ready to strike the younger woman, but Ravenna didn't flinch. "Both you and this child have the same problem," Loretta hissed. "You just don’t know when to step back."Ravenna smiled. "I’ll take that as a compliment, Madam L."With a subtle gesture, Ravenna signaled the guards to release me. "Why are you still standing here?" she whispered to me. "He needs you right now, doesn't he?"I didn’t wait for her to retract the invitation. I bolted past the guards faster than the wind itself, panting as I followed the trail of blood to a door that hit me with the smell of antiseptic. The doctor was already inside. I knew I couldn't go further, but I would stay as close as I was allowed.I had spent the past days imaginin
Amy's POVShe let that question hang in the air like an invisible weight. Then a smile controlled and only half-reaching her eyes appeared on her face. A bottle of wine was presented on the table between us, and she was quick to moisten her lips with it."My name is Ravenna, by the way," she said. She offered no explanation of what faction she belonged to. I had learned that was the way to do it in situations like this; providing a name and nothing else was a power move. Ravenna. Her name came off like a blend of sharp icicles and velvet. Even without knowledge of her rank, I knew she was high enough likely an Underboss to walk into this territory so comfortably and even pour his wine. I watched the amber liquid fill the crystal glass as I tried to wrap my head around who she could be."I just want you to know," she said, lifting the glass to her lips, "your pictures do you no justice at all. You’re not what Moretti usually goes for, but I guess he wanted a taste of something..." She
Amy's POVI didn't tell Aubrey that her husband was messaging me. It would have been nothing more than a hindrance to me, but I’d be lying if I said I didn't feel a tiny pinch of guilt whenever she messaged me bragging about how her man was "the best in the world." By my fifth morning on house arrest, I had already been filled in on their entire life."They met six years ago in an airport restaurant and just happened to be going on the same flight, their seats next to each other! I just knew it was fate!" Aubrey had gushed.I tried to fix the timeline in my head. Yeah, that was during the time I was down with a fever. Jeremy and I had a vacation planned, and when I got sick, he convinced me to stay back and work while he went anyway. He had the time of his life while I was barely pushing through, eventually spending a chunk of my savings on an ambulance because I couldn't move. He hadn't answered my calls the entire trip. He claimed the "service was terrible," and I had gone for it ho
Amy's POVTwo more nights passed by, dragging at a snail’s pace. The whole thing about "house arrest" had been a joke on my side; I did not know that Madame Loretta was actually not going to let me step out of the room at all.The day after Antonio left, I tried to leave my room in the evening just to get a bit of fresh air in the garden. I had only made it to the stairs before I was accosted by two men so tall I had to tilt my chin up at an awkward angle just to look at them."Where are you going?" the first one grunted. Before, their voices had sounded neutral, but now there was a pitch of hostility there or maybe it was just my imagination."Outside," I responded quickly. "Just going out for some fresh air in the garden."The two of them exchanged looks as if that was the first time in their lives they’d heard anyone put those words together in a sentence. The one standing behind me took me by my hand and maneuvered me back toward the room I had just left."It would be better if y
Amy's POVSleep was like an enemy that avoided me for most of the night. I think I managed to get about two hours, and within those two hours, I was run over by nightmares of what could have occurred. Madam Loretta had my phone, so I wasn't able to reach out to Antonio. I don't know if he even wanted me to reach out to him when he was out like this. My mind was racing, but after what she told me last night, I was rethinking just how involved I wanted to be in all this if I should just keep to my lane and not step out from the boundaries that had been placed in front of me. Maybe that would be easier, and maybe I could hold on to my neck longer instead of losing it foolishly.Morning came and there wasn't a sight of Madam Loretta, just another maid that served me my food in my room and told me that it was best I remained there for the time being. It was clear what I was being told wasn't a suggestion, but more or less a command coming from Madam Loretta herself. I sighed and accepted m
