Connor looked really confused as he looked between me and my mother. “I thought your mother was dead.” Connor said. “So did I.” I said. “Aurora. It took me a while to try and get my bearings around the castle. Connor and I found our room on the top floor with an amazing view. There was nothing around for miles but trees and fields and it was a perfect picture for a pack of werewolves. I was standing on the balcony looking out at the view when Connor came out of the bathroom and he walked out to the balcony and put his arms around my waist, but leaned them against the railing. “I was looking around this place earlier. Apparently this room wasn’t the room of the King and Queen, but it was the room of their eldest child. It always has been.” Connor said. “Well, I guess that’s fitting. Isn’t it? I’m the oldest child of the Queen.” I said. “You’re the Queen.” He said. “Not while my mother’s alive. She is.” I said. And he leaned down and kissed my shoulder. “I never thought about that. But she’s been isolated in this castle for years. She doesn’t know what’s going on. I think you’re more qualified for the job.” He said.

I was well aware of Peyton’s presence around the castle and not being far from me. She was close but she wasn’t crowding me. She wasn’t trying to force herself near me, which I was more than grateful for. I didn’t want her near me. Connor definitely felt sorry for her because she was an abused wolf, but I had a different take on things. And I knew that he was worried about me because I was blocking her out. Connor and I traveled far enough away from the castle that no one would know where we were hiding out. When we got to a small town in the middle of nowhere, we went into a diner and the locals were watching us. I was guessing they didn’t have too many visitors in this town, but we sat at a booth and the waitress walked over. “Can we have a couple of coffees.” Connor said. “Sure thing.” She said. And she went back over to the counter. “I don’t know how private this conversation is going to be.” I said, looking around at everyone staring at us. “I know. We’re just going to hear him out and then leave. We’ve got people watching the place in case it is a trap.” Connor said. “I know.” I said. Looking around the burning room I am confused and scared and worried about how I even got here to begin with. I burnt my hand and it was still throbbing, but it didn’t seem to be healing or even progressing like it should be. Not for a wolf. I tried to call Elsa forward, but I got nothing. It was radio silent inside my head. Like she wasn’t there at all. I tried to move forward towards the fire again, trying to find another way out. When I saw a break in the fire, I thought I would take my chance. But it closed up again, before I had a chance to run through it and my shirt caught on fire. I quickly used my hands to tap out my burning clothes, but I looked down at the seared clothing and the more burns that I had on my hands. CONNOR POV It didn’t take Aurora or myself long to fall asleep that night. We’d spent most of the day traveling so we were pretty tired. But I wish it had stayed like that. In the early hours of the morning I was woken by Aurora screaming. It scared the hell out of me and I turned to look at her and she was thrashing around on her side of the bed, sweat pouring off of her. I grabbed her shoulders and tried to wake her. Whatever this nightmare was, it was definitely a bad one. And I had been there after she’d had a few bad nightmares. But nothing like this. I shook her several times and called her name, but I got no response. She wasn’t responding to me at all. I tried to sit her up, but she was really limp in my arms. I ran to the door and flew it open with so much force that it almost came off the hinges and I started screaming for Miles. He came running into our room, with a few people following, but they stayed outside the door. Miles tried to help me wake her up.

Peyton started waving her hands around and chanting in a strange language. I couldn’t understand what she was saying and she was speaking so softly that it was almost impossible for me to hear with my werewolf hearing. But she grabbed some powder out of a bowl and started sprinkling that over Aurora’s body while still chanting. I noticed Peyton’s breathing was getting a little labored and she was struggling. It was using all of her energy to do this spell but she didn’t need a book or anything to do what she was doing. She knew the spell all along. She just chose not to do it because she didn’t think she could. That’s what pissed me off the most. She was going to let her daughter suffer without even trying. I wasn’t going to hate her if she couldn’t do it, but the fact that she wasn’t going to try is what really pissed me off more. I looked back at Aurora and the red witch was still doing some sort of spell on her and I started charging towards her, fully intent on making her stop.
