The drive to the head base of the syndicate was like I was moving into hell, the weather wasn't even helping out. I was like a prisoner, a bait that might not catch the target. I shivered and looked at Vespera, she appeared nonchalant and looked ahead.

The men in front smoked, I was tempted to ask them for but I swallowed whatever I had to say. I shivered and held on to my fancy coat, why did I come with this nonsense? What use is this if I'm not chill and collected.

Vespera seemed to noticed

The hours dragged on, bleeding into the freezing, early morning hours. Outside the cabin, the mountain blizzard reached its peak, the wind howling through the eaves like a pack of phantom wolves, matching the raw, agonizing sounds of labor within. I stood by the heavy timber door, my jaw clenched so tight it ached, and my arms crossed over my chest. Marcus walked in, carrying a fresh basin of steaming water, his face grim as he set it down on the wooden side table. He looked at Elspeth, who had just withdrawn her hands from beneath the quilts, her expression darkening significantly under the orange firelight. I walked closer when I sensed she had something to say. "The baby is breach,” Elspeth whispered with her voice dropping low so Selene wouldn't hear. The words hit me like a thunderclap and I held myself from swaying, “the feet are coming first, and the cord is wrapped tight. The pup is small, too small. If we don't get him out in the next few minutes, the pressure on his chest

  • Sold to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Father   Chapter Eighty Three- A Lonely Labour (Theo’s POV)

I had acted on absolute instinct, when I pulled queen Selene through the secret tunnels beneath the palace before the inner court of the fortress was completely surrounded. After the news of a possible infiltration of the fortress, I went into deeper research on several forgotten escapee routes.King Kael of course did not support the whole idea of taking queen Selene out of the fortress, but, i had to do what i had to do. I told Marcus everything he needed to know about the battle between alpha Kael and the blackthorn syndicate, I still hadn't told him who queen Selene was or why she needed a midwife. I'm sure he must have figured that out by now.As we walked in, Selene lay huddled beneath the thick warm blanket we took from the fortress as a disguise, her face was dangerously pale, slick with a cold sweat that had nothing to do with the freezing temperatures outside. Her hands, small and trembling, were locked over the prominent swell of her stomach. The terror of the siege, the

Far away from the fortress, the mountain blizzard was vicious and the wind shrieked loudly through my ears. I lost count of how many days we were riding through the mountains; it was just day and night and a few stops for a break. As Theo rode through the mountains, I closed my eyes as images of my last moments in the fortress ran wildly in my head, and could not stop the tears that attempted to escape my eyes. The wind continued pouring its anger through the high crags of the peaks, throwing sheets of blinding white snow against our faces and bodies. Moving through this scenery on every other day would have been an amazing ride had it been we were not refugees. I could sense the internal heat and tension had given way to a gut deep fear as the cold increased. I thought of Bram and his family, Hadrian, Maddie, Barbara and most importantly, Kael. The only man who came into my life and made it worth living, but the universe decided to be cruel enough to separate us at such a time lik

By the night of the third day, the air had grown thick and suffocating that the mental torment had grown unbearable. I could not stand the sight of the empty bed or the phantom scent of Selene anymore; it was a loud mockery of how I had failed her. The great Kael, protector of the continent was not even brought to my knees by a rival or an invader; it was the absolute stillness of my home. The silence was too deafening and my wolf amplified it further by its howling, demanding a mate. I stood up, my joints cracking from days of immobility. I walked with an unsteady gait towards an oak shelf in the corner of the room. My hands were still stained with the dark, dried remnants of Oberon’s blood but I hadn’t even taken a single time to look at my appearance. Of what use is that to me at this point?I got to the shelf and pried the glass doors open, ransacking through the contents till my hands grabbed a dark glass bottle. It was dark and was hidden in the deepest part of the shelf, its

The thud of the door shutting everyone out was the best description of how my heart had shut out the entire world, I could not bear to even go close to Selene’s chambers or else the grief would destroy my already bleeding heart. Each minute of silence crashed down like the entire fortress was pressing on me; it was like a physical weight squeezing the air from my lungs.I stared at my hands; bloodstained and trembling. I was too weak to take off my soiled tunic that was still draped on me; I simply walked to the edge of my bed that looked more massive and never ending than before. Selene had not spent many nights in my chambers but her presence was so infectious. The empty pillow, the sheets and her faint sweet scent felt like it was slipping away with each passing moment. Every item now reminded me of my cold, hollow life before Selene’s precious light; I had never imagined that she would just disappear into thin air without any valid or probable reason. I had feared her death like

I ran through the blood-slicked corridors, my heart thundered faster with every step I took towards the only thing that mattered to me. I prayed with every fiber in me that Selene and the baby should be safe, or else I’ll kill Theo. With a desperate rasp, I called out to Selene and threw the doors open. If there was an unlimited space for heartbeats, that would be mine. My heart did more than thundered loudly when I saw the room completely empty, there was no sign of a struggle or any movement. There was just the chilling absence of her scent sending a wave of dread crashing through me. The silk curtains fluttered lazily in the breeze of an open window, her favorite brush sat untouched on the vanity, the lights and candles were out. I turned around hastily, it was a feeble attempt I made to grip the last drop of hope that she was hiding somewhere around here. I left no corners of her chambers untouched.Hadrian still stood at his spot; I backed him with clenched fist as I stared at
